Anasazi37 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 This custom was commissioned by Vermillion One, who has to be the most patient person I know. He's been waiting about six months for this.... Battroid Quote
Mr March Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Nice photos! What kind of lighting are you using? Do you use a soft box? Quote
Anasazi37 Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 Nice photos! What kind of lighting are you using? Do you use a soft box? Nope. Just diffuse morning or afternoon light. Since Colorado gets about 300 days of sunshine a year I can get away with it. Anywhere else, I'd have to use an artificial light source. Quote
Mr March Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 They look good for a quick and dirty setup. The background really helps the subject standout. Oh yeah, very nice custom by the way Quote
Anasazi37 Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 The background really helps the subject standout. The background is a $2 piece of blue material from a fabric store bargain bin, believe it or not. I've gotten so much use out of that thing.... Quote

I love it Quote

Neova Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Devin, Your best yet! Keep it up! How did you paint the arrow on the helmet? Masking? Thats the part thats killing me right now. Quote
Anasazi37 Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) How did you paint the arrow on the helmet? Masking? Thats the part thats killing me right now. Nope, no masking necessary. Just lots of patience and a fine-tipped brush. If I stray outside the lines a little I go back later with the blunt edge of an Xacto knife and gently scrape off the excess paint. Edited September 21, 2004 by Anasazi37 Quote

Ido Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) Amazing paint job DId you take some pics of the pilot out of the cockpit? Edited September 21, 2004 by Ido Quote
Anasazi37 Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 Just plain beautiful! So how much do you charge making customs like that? The going rate is $300 for labor and materials (paint and decals). You have to supply the valk. When you factor in how much time is involved and how expensive the decals are to produce, us customizers are working for peanuts.... Quote

I often try more elaborate methods on customs but often come back to the basics because I know that they work. Quote
Anasazi37 Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 Amazing paint job DId you take some pics of the pilot out of the cockpit? No, but I can, if you like. There isn't much to see below the chest on those pilots, though. I painted the boot stripes purple, but that's about it.... Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 Anasazi37, Incredible work, absolutely amazing!!! Just one thing though, the right leg seems to have a rather large gap on the front-side. Is this due to a stripped screw hole? NB4M Quote
Anasazi37 Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 Just one thing though, the right leg seems to have a rather large gap on the front-side. Is this due to a stripped screw hole? Nope, it's not a stripped screw hole. I could have screwed the pieces together so tight that you couldn't see the seam line on that side, but it would have ruined the paint job on the inside of those pieces where the foot thruster pivots. That particular piece was a little larger on the right side than the left (Yamato QC strikes again), so I had to leave a little room for it to move. Quote
