Skull Leader Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 lol, the patent for "Jetfire" has the image of the Takatoku VF-1S... funny.. Quote
RFT Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Well, it is the applicable patent for jetfire... or rather was. according to that scan, the patent was granted in 1984 for 16 years. does that mean anyone can make them now? Quote
promethuem5 Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 yeah, have you ever been on ebay. there's zillions of the VF-1S 1/55 bootleg out there. its well done too IMO, a great piece to get for like ten buckes at most. Quote
Kin Posted September 20, 2004 Author Posted September 20, 2004 Hmmm roadbuster's designer is the same as for the jetfire... that explains the good articulation of it. Quote

If so, ignore the following. Though Matsushiro may have held the US patent for the designs, this does not make them the designer. Rather, Matsushiro was a manufacturer/distributor who had some of Takatoku's production tools for a period following Taka's dissolution. The patent appears to be for the outward graphic design or basic appearance of the toy. I was actually a little surprised to see the Matsushiro name listed on the US patent for JetFire, instead of BW, Bandai or Hasbro. I suppose that Matsushiro must have been in posession of the tools when Hasbro made the decision to import them as Transformers. Quote
