Jawjaw Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 What do you all think, would you accept having to remove the nosecone to attach the armor or not?Personally, if it gave better looking armor I don't think it would bother me at all. Graham That would work for me. If Yamato does the GBP, I think 1/48 scale is a must. That is the only way you can pack in the detail and opening missile bays. Also, doesn't the 1/60 have the same long nose problem as the 1/48? It would be expensive but I think more people would buy it in 1/48 scale than 1/60. They could also do a low-vis GBP for a variant. How cool would that be? B) Quote
Weaseldancer Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 I'd like to see it in both scales but I am not holding my breath for either one. Having to remove the nose cone for the the armor to fit the 1/48th scale would not bother me in the slightest. Quote
drifand Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Having to remove the nosecone in order to have a nicer GBP-1S is of course "workable", but what will Mr. Kawamori say to that? It would also show a certain lack of foresight on Yamato's part when designing the 1/48. Even with CAD... sigh. Quote

Maybe it points to a deficiency in the GBP armor system's design - a little too much "Anime Magic" perhaps? Remember, the old Bandai/Takatoku 1/55's that the old style GBP armor fit on had a nosecone that was much shorter than what appeared in the original line art, and that's the only reason it fit correctly. I don't think that the Yamato's nosecone hangs any lower than say the Hasegawa battroid's, and I think we can all agree that theirs is the most acurate VF-1 sculpt available anywhere. I think that perhaps Kawamori ignored (or didn't notice) that the GBP's waist armor section couldn't possibly fit given the dimensions of the VF-1. It's just a thought, anyway. bsu legato Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 (edited) Yeah, blame Yamato for not making the nosecone shrinkable. Here we go again, blaming toys for not conforming to anime magic proportions. Check yer copies of Memory Perfect, boys and girls. The original '82 line art for the VF-1 battroid has an impossibly small nosecone, thus allowing the GBP-1 to fit. Now, Yamato could have made a stubby nose, a'la the Taka, but then we'd have 1001 topics about "Yamato hates me becasue they gave the 1/48 a stubby nose." Edit: Dammit, Batou. You're too fast for me, and clearly you read my mind and stole my post. Edited September 15, 2003 by bsu legato Quote
drifand Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 OK, I take back what I said. No need to blame anyone yet (except Kawamori for his anime magic). Let's wait and see how they solve this problem of aesthetics on the 1/48 GBP-1S. I seriously doubt Yamato designed the nosecone to be removeable BECAUSE of the GBP-1S. Afterall, Big West's objection is the reason why Yamato couldn't fix their 1/60 gunpod problem earlier. Would BW object to the "no-nosecone" solution? Your guess is as good as mine. Quote

Heck, look at it from a business standpoint and not a consumer standpoint 1st very few moving parts, ,,,,very few parts period 2nd easy assembly from a manufacturing standpoint (easy to package and onlt a few hatches and such) 3rd customers going to want one for every damn $130 1/48 they have allready, lets charge them 75% of the price of the VF-1 and sell em like hot cakes,,,hell were the only guys on the block and we have the most detailed VF-1, not to mention biggest <_< WIN WIN WIN all the way around, i cant see why they wouldnt make it Quote

imode Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 if they come out with the 1/48 GBP, i'll only be able to justify buying one set cause i know yamato is going to ask for too much money for it...probably $60-$75. where as the 1/60 would be $20 to $30 tops. Knowing Yamato and factoring in shipping and viagra enhanced boxes, I wouldn't be surprised if prices were 2x more than what you expect, especially for a 1/60 version. You figure, Yamato managed to charge $20 or so more for a super/strike 1/60 over a normal 1/60. Factor in even more plastic for a GBP, and extra details like opening hatches, etc, and you got yourself a $40-60 piece of hardware. Quote
Macross Junky Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 The more I look at 1/48s in Battroid mode, the more I see in my mind's eye how badly distorted the GBP may be due to the nosecone's length. Even for the 1/60s, I expect the armor to be highly restrictive if it's ever made. We should forget about any cool poses for an Armored Valk - it's either hatches open or closed. And that should be cool enough. :-) I suppose one could always take the nosecone off of the 1/48 before dressing it in GBP... Quote
