August 23, 2004 - Columbia TriStar today announced the release of Spider-Man 2 in three different forms on November 30 - a two-disc special edition for $29.96, a single-disc Superbit release for $29.96 and a giftset for $49.95.

The movie, one of the top grossing films of the summer, drew raves from fans and critics alike. Tobey McGuire returned in the title role, having the worst of luck. He can't keep a job and Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) is engaged to an astronaut. Then things get a lot worse as Dr. Otto Octavius is turned into Dr. Octopus, a super-villian with four metal tentacles coming out of him. Time for another rumble in New York.

The aside for the widescreen video and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, the two-disc set comes with:

Disc One

Commentary with director Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, producer Avi Arad and co-producer Grant Curtis

Technical commentary

Blooper reel

Spidey Sense 2 Trivia track with "pop-up" facts and trivia about the film and the world of Spider-Man

Four Web-i-sodes

original online featurettes from the film's theatrical release

Train "Ordinary" music video

Previews

Disc Two

"Making the Amazing" - A 12-part documentary from pre-production to the Hollywood premiere

"Hero in Crisis" - A deeper look into Peter Parker and his personal battles in the continuing story of Spider-Man

Ock-Umentary: "Eight Arms to Hold You" - A special look at Doc Ock from the comics to the big screen

"Interwoven: The Women of Spider-Man" - A look into the lives of Mary Jane, Aunt May and the other women in Peter Parker's life

"Enter the Web" - A groundbreaking multi-angle look behind-the-scenes at the climatic Pier sequence captured in real-time

Art Gallery - A collection of Alex Ross' paintings used in the opening credits of the film

Activision's Spider-Man 2: Spinning the Game - A behind-the-scenes look at the making of Spider-Man 2: The Game

The Superbit version will be just the film with a DTS 5.1 soundtrack, as is standard. It's nice to see the Superbit coming out at the same time as the other titles. Usually they wait a few months for that release.

The Spider-Man 2 Giftset will feature the special edition plus a comic book, five postcards, artist sketch book and sketch & photo booklet and will carry a $49.95 price tag.

I gotta get that Superbit version (I recently got a HDTV) for its cleaner picture and thunderous sound (DTS baby!) - I don't need all those extras.
