Ranger565 Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 (edited) Hey guys, Got bored so I decided to start creating decals. This is just a first draft picture of what I have created so far. They are 1/72 and I desinged most of the Decals to fit on the Fast Pack Boosters of Super VF-1's I would like you to give me your Opinion on what you think. We get a lot of decals with our kits, but we really dont get much to play with in terms of Squadrons, so I did this. Also I will be adding Zentradi Markings, I have the abilty to do that too. Also, I am working on Destroid decals (Women figure decals, Some maybe naked) lol yeah I know. but IN WW2 Many bombers had Naked ladies on Them. Why should a Destroid be different . hehe just and idea. NOTE: this Picture IS NOT of GLossy Decal Paper. This is Regular White paper. I have only Prined them to see what they look like, The Images are more Crisp on glossy paper ( i tried photo paper and its Looks PHAT.) SO what else am I doing here? Well I am also asking if you would like to see an Image of a design you would like to see I would like you to post the picture. Maybe I can use a drawing or a Squadron picture that you woud like to see on a decal Well, I hope I have not done any Copyright infringement here, Let me know what you think I do have a few questions? 1. Would something like this be an issue if I were to print them and sell? 2. What other decals do you think I should add? \\ Take care, and thinks for your Opinion Please any feedback would be wonderfull!! Ranger565 Edited August 14, 2004 by Ranger565 Quote
Myersjessee Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 neat idea. Any idea what scales your shooting for? As for other decals..hmm...maybe some simple stripes (always helpful in a pinch) and some Zentran or Marduke markings? (kinda like the Wave set) Quote
Grayson72 Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 (edited) Definately cool, I'll take a set, I'd really like a set of 1/72 Zentradi markings as well. Anasazi sells loads of decal sets without permission from "who the hell cares" and hasn't gotten into trouble. Jesse, BTW they're 1/72, says in his post. Oh the little kill marks of the Zentradi probably wouldn't be that useful in red and yellow. A set of white and a set a black would probably be the most useful. Ranger565 Posted August 14, 2004 Author Posted August 14, 2004 (edited) Ok Qick update before I got to work Ok quick update before I go to work IF anyone has any Zentron or Marduke Markings Please Post them here. I am having a heck of time finding some. If you have any High Quality scans or Pics please post them If you have any clear pics like this, I would love to see them, This Includs all Macross Symbols and markings, You name it. if you got it let me have it. But share only if you want too. Thank you, Ranger565 Edited August 14, 2004 by Ranger565 Quote
Ranger565 Posted August 15, 2004 Author Posted August 15, 2004 Ok Here is a new update. Not all of the Decals on this sheet will make the Final cut. I Just have them on here now for space, I have run out of Zentradi, Zentron, or whaterver you want to call them Decals, so if you have any more pics of Markings post them or send them too me. I have also learned I dont think I can Print Plain White Decals, I guess I need a special Laser printer for that, But anyway, Let me know what you think, so far. Just trying to make this work out. Grayson, The Reason I made the Kill marks Red and yellow, is because most of the Fastpack and boosters are Pained some kind of blue or Green. Red and Yellow will show up nice on those Colors. OH well thanks for the help and Hellohikaru I do have some Black Aces Symbols and Could use them, however I did not want to stea that persons artwork, Not sure if using it will cause problems. But will look into all you guys have to offer. Ranger565 Quote
Grayson72 Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 If you need more room on the sheet I'd cut the kite, skull and blue roses stuff. I've got so much of those I don't know what to do with them. Quote
Anasazi37 Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 How bout a full set for this valk I made a full set for that valk in 1/48 as a commissioned project for chowyunskinny. They turned out really nice. Quote
buddhafabio Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 a sun downers set woul be neat, i might buy a 48 (would prefer 60) to do one if it were possible Quote
Anasazi37 Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Ranger565, The designs are looking good so far. My one concern revolves around how you are printing them and coating them. Are you using an inkjet? Color laser? ALPS? Each printer carries with it a different set of advantages and disadvantages. For example, while inket printers are widely available, the designs look great, it's cheap, and easy to use, the inks are translucent. Unless you print the designs on white paper, you can't use the decals on dark surfaces (like boosters). This should be okay for the more simple designs (booster circles, zentran logos, etc.), but the more complicated designs won't look too good because you will have to cut away any excess white paper around the designs and that will be difficult on, let's say, the booster kill markings. You'll end up with decals that have lots of white around the edges. Laser printed decals, except for black, are also translucent and the ink tends to flake off the decal paper. As a result, you end up with the same issue using white paper. It's not cheap, the quality is limited to 600 dpi, and the halftoning is very noticeable on large designs. ALPS printing, while probably the best option for the do-it-yourselfer, can be a royal pain in the @ss. The printers and supplies are expensive and it takes a long time to learn how to use it and master its quirks. If you're using an inkjet, you will have to coat the decals once they've dried because the inks are water-based. There is also a problem because of how glossy inkjet decal paper works. Just like glossy photo paper, the ink is not absorbed into the paper, but is instead trapped on the surface by a series of chemicals. That's why the designs look so sharp. When ink is absorbed into paper, it gets a little fuzzy. However, the trapping makes them easy to smear and hard to work with. Depending on the humidity in your area, the drying process can take days or weeks. I live in very dry, high altitude Colorado and inket decals take several days to dry. I remember waiting upwards of two weeks for a few sets. If you try coating them before they are dry, the ink runs all over the paper and the decals are ruined. The coating solution you use is also important. I'd steer clear of decal fixative sprays and acrylic spray can clear top coats (like Krylon Crystal Clear). They'll work in a pinch, but the coating can crack and it makes the decals hard to use. Something like Microscale's Liquid Decal Film (LDF) will work, but if you're not careful when brushing it on, you'll smear the ink. You do not need to coat laser and ALPS printed decals, but it never hurts. LDF works here, too. Sorry to download on you like this, but I've spent several years making decals, trying pretty much every process imaginable. I don't want to see someone else reinvent the wheel, wasting time and money in the process. As you start printing, please feel free to ask questions and I'll help as much as I can. Good luck. Quote
valkyrietestpilot Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 (edited) devin(anasazi37),my man, your method of sticker making is very durable.i put the extra, big valk-girl(minmay guard) you sent me in my elint set on the slick skin of my bodyboard & she's holding up to the abuse of the ocean & waves.i was worried the ink would come off,but it's holding rock solid man.keep making them durable like this, they rock Edited August 15, 2004 by valkyrietestpilot Quote
Ranger565 Posted August 15, 2004 Author Posted August 15, 2004 (edited) Thanks guys I have to go to work soon so I have to make this short. I guess the main thing that got me started on This project was the fact that I was looking over one of my 1/72 Destroid kits and Thought of the artwork on Tanks, Bombers and Figters of WWII. To me, If Macross was Real, I have a feeling that Noseart, body art and Naked woman would be on the armor of all Destroids. Just a thing a Grunt did in war. HEHE So I started thinking If I make one of my 1/72 destroids soon I would like to have a little artwork on my Legs or arms or Wherever you want to put it. So I stared to work on this NOTE: I have LOTS of Pics. However The best are the Nudes, However, I am not sure of the MW community reaction to me posting WWII type Nose art Nudes, So I am only going to show you what little I have thats Decent. Unless the Community does not care God I can see this on a Tomahawk!!! This would Look awsome on a Batroid Armor Leg! With a little wheater damage, some Nice shading and a little luck, I think I could use this type of artwork to give me the effect that our Grandfathers did to their War machines years ago. now I am also working on Pics of Minmay for this too. I just did not have time to fix them up Tell me what you think of this idea. Think of what a Tamahawk would look like with a Nice looking Belle, or a Donald duck with a shot gun on a Monster,s front leg. Ranger565 Edited August 15, 2004 by Ranger565 Quote
Grayson72 Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 Hey those are pretty sweet, lets see the nudes, hey it's art not porn. Quote
Ranger565 Posted August 16, 2004 Author Posted August 16, 2004 OK here is some Pics. NOTICE: This Is in NO FORM Pornagraphy. This Is Real Life WW2 Bomber and Figher artwork. Please understand that This is apart of World History, and should only be viewd in understanding that This has no other purpose then to Show Artwork. OK now that I have that out of the way. This is what I am working on. and Let me tell you, I am going to put this on an OLDER Spartan Model I have. I Really like this one! OK I know that some Pics are big. But I needed them big so that the Quality will hold when they are scaled down to size. This is just some of the stuff I have. See you tomorrow. with some of the first scaled sizes Ranger565 Quote

Ranger565 Posted August 25, 2004 Author Posted August 25, 2004 (edited) Sorry for the delay in updates, I have finished my first Sheet. This is a scan of my 1/72 kill markings. I used dark colors that show up on light backgrounds as well as light colors that show up on Dark backgrounds. I did a lot of referencing on old ww2 planes to see what colors they used in their kill maks. Let me know what you think. FYI the pic is NOT as nice as the Decals are in person. My scannar does not do them justice. The kill marks are printed on Clear Decal paper FYI I made all marks for Male and Female armor, Regult heavy missle and small missle marks, also you can see the Gnarl figthers as well. let me know what you think! PS. will have Black and white decals soon as well. I have found a way to print some white decals. Ranger565 Edited August 25, 2004 by Ranger565 Quote
Grayson72 Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 That's totally cool Ranger, I want a set. Quote
Anasazi37 Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Have you tried applying some of them to see how they look on light and dark surfaces? Quote
neptunesurvey Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 So, are you planning on selling any of these decals, or are you just torturing us? Quote
Berttt Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Start selling these dude, I've been looking for 1/72 scale kill marks for ages. Cheers, Brett Quote
Ranger565 Posted September 1, 2004 Author Posted September 1, 2004 (edited) Hey guys sorr for the Delay. I am a Marine biologist and I work for an Aquarium and I am sooo stuck with work, I have not had a chance to post any pics. I have to make some adjustments to The decals. I want to make them smaller and I need to Work out colors. The Yellow marks are not as clear as I would like them to be On darker backgrounds, So i want to try a different decal paper. The Black and White kill marks are Fabolus. You just will have to wait and see. I dont have any pics yet, Sorry just give me some time to work on them. I am also updating this on some of the Squadron Markings. Rember this is a crappy scan on white paper. Not printed on Decal paper. These squadron markings will be printed on White Decal paper. On white decal these Markings are NOT an issue when it comes to Cutting close to the decal. You just have to cut a circle. Please When looking at this Decal sheet can you give me some serious Imput. Do you think I should change anything? do you think I should Add anything? Thanks for the imput Ranger565 Edited September 2, 2004 by Ranger565 Quote
HWR MKII Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 some of te pinup style girls would look beautiful on destroids. i could see a crew putting a larger version of the reclining girls on the missile arms of a monster. or some kneeling girls on the shins of a tomahawk or mech with a similar leg shape. excellent work. sean Quote
hirohawa Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 If you do them in 1/48 scale put me down for a set. You should make decals for the heatshield and tailfins also, as I assume these are for the circles on the armor packs. Quote
buddhafabio Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 they would have put pinup girls on all their planes once the un spacy found out the reaction of the enemy Quote
fearyaks Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 They look great! Any chance of getting 1/48 versions? Quote
Ranger565 Posted September 3, 2004 Author Posted September 3, 2004 Yes they are the Circles for the Armor packs, Soon as I get some free time. Prob next mon- tues, I will be posting pics. But I want to make sure that they are 1. Accurate 2. Crisp and Clean 3. To scale I know many of you want them, and I am sure I will start selling, but I do not want to give any one a product I would not use myself. That whould be Just wrong. So i want to perfect them before I do buisness. I will work on 1/48 scale. Dont worry, I just need some time I have my VF-1A thats still needs to be finished. Work has me so over worked its just home, work, home work, thats my day but hey, I will work on some stuff tonight. hehe Ranger565 Quote
