From Guntoa : Approaching 30 years... It 's not much, but still worth mentioning. In the recent Nikkei Characters! issue, Yasuo Miyakawa, a Sunrise board member, commented, "UC fans are probably looking forward to a new series. We can't promise when (it will be released), but we promise to deliver one. Please look forward to it. " Never the less, add one more person from Bandai/Sunrise promising a new UC series. In a separate note, Harutoshi Fukui's next work will be on Gundam after his recent release of "Operation ROSEDUST" novel this month.

Gundam Live Action Movie In The Works? "Gundam" live action movie in works? It seems so! As the Legacy Effects, the visual effects team behind movies such as "Pacific Rim" "Real Steel" "Iron Man" "The Avengers" "Avatar" and most recently "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has partnered with "Gundam" creator Yoshiyuki Tomino to make Hollywood movies based on Japanese manga and anime! According to sankakucomplex.com, "Gundam" creator Yoshiyuki Tomino will hold a press conference on January 21 to announce his partnership with Legacy Effects to "bring Hollywood movies based on Japanese anime and manga titles to a global audience". One of these titles is said to be "Gundam" though it is not sure what part of the huge "Gundam" series Legacy Effects and Yoshiyuki Tomino will make a Hollywood adaptation off. Fans of the anime are weary though due to fact that Hollywood has made adaptations of Japanese made video games/anime/manga and the results were not impressive, pointing to bombs such as "Dragonball Evolution", the live action "Tekken" and "King of Fighters" movies. However some fans are quick to note that Yoshiyuki Tomino is part of the creative process and some of story that made "Gundam" popular will still be intact. They even praised that with the help of the big budget and the superior visual effects that Hollywood can provide means that the "Gundam" movie may very well be of quality. For those who don't know the "Gundam" series is one of the biggest-if not the biggest-mecha manga/anime series in Japan. The "Gundam" franchise earned over 5 billion yen in revenue based on the sales of the toys, manga, tv shows and movies. This is not the first time a "Gundam" live action movie was made. A "Gundam" live action movie called "G-Savior" was released in 2000. It got bad reviews as it scored a 4.3 on the website IMDB. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131360-Gundam-Creator-Tomino-Teams-With-Hollywoods-Legacy-Effects http://collider.com/gundam-movie-adaptation/

So, I was listening to the latest episode of Gundamn@mahq recently and came across some interesting, if depressing news. Apparently preorder numbers for the new English version of Gundam the Origin have barely passed 4000 units. In other words, without support, the future of this new, re-translated, deluxe edition is in jeopardy before volume 1 has even been released. It's one of only a handful of mecha manga that actually does mecha right imo (Macross the First being another one), so if you have even a passing interest in Gundam or mecha, volumes 1 and 2 are only $18 each for preorder over at Amazon. Even though I have the Japanese versions, I know Ill be picking these up if only to support it. Volume 1 preorder. Volume 2 preorder.
