  1. Getter Robo, a classic robot manga series created by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa in the mid-1970s, will be adapted into a live-action film for the first time in the spring of 2025. Getter Robo was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1974 to 1975, and its anime series was aired for 51 episodes on Fuji Television from April 1974 to May 1975. It was a milestone work in the robot anime genre, as it was the first to feature giant robots combining elements. Many sequels have been made to the anime and manga, respectively, and the 50th anniversary will finally be celebrated in 2025. This live-action film is produced, directed, and written by Junya Okabe, who has worked on Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy The Movie (2009), CAT crap ONE -THE ANIMATED SERIES- (2010), Brave Storm (2017), and ZVP - Zatoichi vs. Predator - (2017). The aim of the project is to create a live-action version of Getter Robo with a modern take on the outlaw, violence, and action of Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa's original manga. The contract with Dynamic Prodcution, the rights holder of the series, to produce a live-action film has already been concluded. Currently, preparations are underway to establish a production committee consisting of major companies. Meanwhile, a crowdfunding campaign to produce a 3-5 minute pilot film has launched. There are many visual images in the original Getter Robo manga that are attractive but extremely difficult to visualize. As one means of approaching the realization of these images, the project plans to produce a pilot film (3-5 minutes) with domestic and overseas creators, which will be treated separately from the production costs of the full-length film. The crowdfunding is currently being conducted on CAMPFIRE for Japan for two weeks until April 19, with a target amount of 5,000,000 yen (38,900 USD). Kickstarter for foreign countries will follow in early April. https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2023/04/03-1/getter-robo-live-action-film-in-the-works-for-2025-release https://getterrobo.jp/en.html https://camp-fire.jp/projects/view/664336 https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bigone-inc/live-action-getter-robo-trailer-short-film
  2. For the first time ever, Mazinger Z will be available uncut in the U.S. Discotek Media and Eastern Star will release the series in Japanese with English subtitles on DVD starting April 29.
