THanks all. I really appreciate it. As usual, I'm trying to improve my technique and I'd love any constructive criticism you might have. Specifically, what would you have done differently to improve this. Thanks.

Starshipmodeler.com is hosting a new contest called the Legs contest Legs Contest If any of you were thinking of finishing a destroid, battroid, or any valk in Gerwalk mode... then you might want to consider entering it in the contest. Its an excuse to bust out that Hasegawa Battroid or maybe finish that Destroid Monster you saved up to get. For me, I'm finishing my SW AT-ST first, and maybe consider doing a gerwalk VF-1D. I wanna take my time with the Monster.

It is mine... believe it or not that was my first resin kit. Remember when Valkyrie made those for $50? And yes, I drilled two tiny holes in the bottom of the vf-4g and two holes in the top of the stand and CA glued two small rods in there to mount the vf-4g. -

Consider loading up on cheap clear acrylic rod from usplastics.com. A little heat gun and a coffee can (to guide the rod around the grooves for an even curve) and you got a great stand. -
This kit is the Yellow Submarine resin kit of the Macross SDF1 in cruiser mode. Actually it is a recast of that kit by G-System. There were no decals and the kit needed a ton of clean up. I also had to pin lots of the parts because the weight of the kit was too much on several of the joints. I weathered it heavily with pastels and oil washes. I wanted to make sure it looked like it fell to earth. The engine bell area was done with Alclads burnt metal and exhaust. The rest was done with Tamiya acrylics. I used a small Aztec-ing affect to give the open spots some character. I'm particularly pleased with the ARMD Space Carriers. By the way... this is my second resin kit ever... I'm pretty pleased. I finished this for the Armorama.com Capital Cruiser Campaign... it was a good excuse to finish this puppy up. Please let me know what you think. Armorama Capital Cruiser Campaign Submission

Great news... I'll make sure to hype these bases up when they come out. I'm a regular at Starshipmodeler.com ... so I'll let people know over there. Armorama and AircraftResourceCenter too. -

Personally, I think they are waaaay overrated. I tend not to do photo-etch on 1/72nd scale.

What is lying on your workbench?

HWR MKII... you always amaze me at how much you get done. Are there 75 hours in a day where you live? I'm jealous. I get about an hour or two a week to work on my models. -
Looks really good. Your weathering style is visually interesting with the heavy pre-shade (or post shade). It's a little too heavy for my taste, but it does look nice in pictures. That is the Hasegawa battroid, correct?

I loved that one. The Cat's Eye is waaaay down the line for me. I have it... good kit, but the radome ain't even. Not sure what I'll do to fix that (if anything).

Naw. I just started going to Armorama.com this year. They have a little sci-fi section and are doing this contest. I just figured it was a good excuse to get the SDF-1 done. It was the first resin kit I ever bought... and it's taken me over 2 years to get off my arse and finish it. Other 3 sites I visit are Starshipmodeler.com, Aircraftresourcecenter.com, and planetfigure.com. ARC is great for jets and PF is great for figures. It's amazing what they do on those forums. I also look at the articles on Hyperscale too. -

1/72 Resin Monster Model!

Mike... it looks absolutely amazing. Gigantic! Oooooh it will be fun to put lots of greeblies on this puppy. One question... the arms look a little short relative to the body. However, I don't have any lineart, so I may just be talkin' out my arse like usual. Once again... great work! Could be the most anticipated kit this year! -

Great to hear about the bases. Rest assured I will buy several. As for models, Hasegawa goes together like a dream and only cost about $20. As for movies, I'd be happy to send you my Macross Plus and Macross Zero DVDs if you promise to return them. My original series Macross DVDs are unplayable at the current time... yes, I have kids too that don't understand that DVDs aren't for eating. -
Amen, GH. I might as well give you my experience. I had nothing but great success with SMT a couple of years ago when I got a Y-wing and an AT-AT. I was a big fan of SMT. Then I heard that Gundamhead had done what he said in the post above. I was absolutely psyched. I absolutely LOOOOOOVE the HWR MKII Monster. And I thought GH did a top notch job. I thought the SMT Monster was a steal at $175 for a BIG BIG BIG honkin' piece of resin. I preordered it in May of 2004 with the expectation that it would ship in June/July. Months and months went by. Colin always answered emails, but suggested it was coming soon. My emails got more impatient, but always cordial. Finally, it came in May. However, it didn't come with a nice box, decals or even construction directions. I think Thor got one too. GH knew how much I wanted this so he made a great copy of his instructions and a little history of the beast. He did this out of the kindness of his heart... I think I still owe him several beers for this. I've asked several times about the decals, but Colin gives me the "its coming" line. Now I don't know what to think. SMT's price increase and cryptic message about scaling back leaves me scratching my head. The threads on Starshipmodeler.com are very cordial and nice. Everyone feels bad that Colin's dad died. Me especially since I just lost my father last week. But it still doesn't change the fact that he has not delivered. You can be an incredibly nice guy and a horrible business man. I get the feeling that everyone who has an outstanding order is very bitter, but afraid of being considered insensitive. I don't know what will become of GH's masters, but I know there are a lot of people who would like one. I've been approached by a couple people wanting to recast mine, but there is ABSOLUTELY no way I'd ever do that. If people want it, then why can't we buy the rights and put it in the hands of someone who'll actually deliver? I am friends with John and Linda at SSM (they are in my modeling club) and I think they are also good business people. I just think they'd do a better job than SMT would. Also, I am very excited for Mike Salzo's 1/72nd. I will buy this as well for three reasons. 1) I love the Monster, 2) I like Mike (not that way) and I like to support people who I consider friends, and 3) Mike is an excellent caster and a joy to do business with. I bought the Incom T-65 from him and it is the best kit I own. Well, that's it. I feel better that I got all that off my chest.

You really need to read through the thread to understand it. I pre-ordered the Monster and I have it now. It is a great great great kit. I don't regret it at all. It's just that it took forever to get it and it doesn't look like they will offer it anymore. All I'm saying now is that I wish the masters for the kit were in someone else's hands because I think there would be great demand for the kit if it were produced by a reputable caster.
-
I agree wholeheartedly. I say give them to SSM. Blappy has a wonderful casting setup now. He does really really good work. He could rotocast that puppy very well. Gundamhead did a great job with the master, but SMT owns it. I suppose we could all chip in and buy the master. Does anyone know how much this master would cost? I doubt SMT truly knows the value of this Monster master... I don't think he got many orders for this kit. That had more to do with the horrible customer service at SMT rather than how good the kit was. What do ya think?
