Here in Michigan we've had a couple of mild winters (it's subjective of course). Had a few really nasty snow days, but spring came surprisingly early. It's about 10 degree Celsius and sunny right now, perfect spring weather. -

We need someone to make a "Who fracked who" chart.... it would be quite complex, but Baltar would be at the node... he's fracked everything with 2 legs and female. -

That is actually incorrect (from a real world perspective ). The merging of smaller prokaryotes into larger ones which gave rise to organelles like Mitochondria, predates all humans, and most forms of advanced life actually. This event takes place roughly 2 Billion years ago according to most studies. Mitochondria is sort of necessary for advanced life as it's the cell's "power-plant". Without it, advanced life like most forms of plants & animals would not be able to exist. So the fact that it's stated that the DNA of the "natives" are compatible with those of the colonial refugees implies that their cellular structure (mitochondria and all) is the same. The fact that Hera turns out to be Mitochondrial Eve is more like a coincidence, perhaps orchestrated by higher powers like the virtual six & baltar. -

I think that's my main problem with the show... the 00-Raiser is just too overpowered, there was never a real opponent that came remotely close to taking it down. I had high hopes for the Susanoo but it lasted about as long as the GN-flag . -

Keanu Reeves would be well suited to play the G-man for a prospective future half-life movie. -

I don't think Bushido Bob is going to swoop in and help Setsuna all of a sudden. Setsuna beats the crap out of Ribbons MS, and Bushido Bob will appear all of a sudden offer to cross swords 1 final time with Setsuna, as their MS fly towards each other, the screen fades to black... that would be an ideal ending for me XD. The problem is that I don't know where he's going to get a new uber-mobile suit, as double-0 pretty much busted his whole garage, and Billy is now officially out of A-laws. -

It's actually quite amazing. I was a research assistant for a professor for 1 semester on this very topic. What's even more shocking, is that humans have been on this world for almost an incredibly short time given the 4.5 Billion age of the planet, yet in that short time we have pretty much succeeded in about 150,000 years in wrecking the whole place XD. -

It was obvious Hera survived for long enough to bear children as well. I forgot the exact wording Caprica uses in the end to describe the remains, but it's implied that if she is Mitochondrial Eve, then she had children of her own. ... didn't the last of her model decide to stay on Earth v.1 to just die peacefully? -
Now, in my book I rank Stealth only the second worst movie of all time, typical Justice League America vs. The Third World crap story. ... but the jets I liked, and seeing the SU-37 Terminators on screen bumped it from #1 worse to #2 worse.

Anyone else notice the attempt to make Lee Adama's hair look like Solid Snake lol? ... maybe it's just my imagination, since due to his role in the finale he's supposed to look all tactical and special ops . -

Oh dear lords... I lol'd at the Glen Larson Galactica feature film being planned (or discussed). Attempt to cash in on the success of the reimagined series or a final: "my version is better than yours" attempt... ? Though don't get me wrong, I've never seen the original, but it's safe to say it would be comparing apples and oranges. -

... it's complicated, and there are several scenarios that can account for it. One simple explanation is that because mitochondrial DNA only passes from mother -> son/daughter... if 2 parents only have a son, then they are unable to pass on the mtDNA to the 3rd generation, which is very plausible. Obviously case is simplified if a couple did not have any children at all. Or if they had one male... but that guy mated with a female from another mtDNA line... The death of a particular line of mtDNA does not necessarily imply that a whole population died out (though it is 1 possible explanation). -

A fitting end, absolutely beautiful. I decided to let this last bit out of spoilers. I didn't expect the last tidbit on Mitochondrial Eve. It's great to see educated writers. For those wondering (and those that have not played Parasite Eve ), the newsflash at the end refers to Endosymbiotic theory which was postulated by Lynn Margulis. It is the predominant theory on how eukaryotic cells (those that we have) evolved from simpler prokaryotic cells (ie. bacteria). To make a long story short, the theory says that a long time ago some larger bacteria might have engulfed or merged with smaller bacteria. Instead of dying though, the smaller bacteria somehow remained in the cell, and evolved into cellular components like mitochondria. To this day, mitochondria actually contains DNA as well! Mitochondrial DNA it is passed only from Mother to Child and mutates at a predictable rate, it has been a popular tool in the study of ancient human populations. The term "Mitochondrial Eve" is actually used, and is thought to be of a woman living in Africa. It's a nice general science blanket that encapsulates the show's themes about evolution, conflict, and adaptation. Endosymbiotic Theory -
Yea... I had forgotten how ugly the zakurello was lol.... you win. But as a general statement, aesthetics can also be a function of when the original design was created. The original RX-78-2 line-art looks very blocky and unappealing in a 21st century sense, but the Ka-version is ok.
