Have YOU ever been banned from an internet Forum??
Ghost Train replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was once banned from the old gundam.com forum (now defunct)... I have a suspicion that a few old posters from there post now in MWF. Anyways, it was 7 years ago and I can't remember the reason why. At present, I'm trying to get myself banned from the official EVE-online forum (out of boredom)... not much luck, have had a few of my posts modded but no warnings or anything. I guess the tolerance level there is pretty high considering it's the MMO most famous for scamming players and just generally trying to ruin someone else's day. -
I hope the PG 00 comes in an optional Seven-Sword variation as well.

Harry Potter and the Half-Bloo...
Ghost Train replied to the white drew carey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I never quite got into Harry Potter either, or like my peers call it "Hairy Pottah." Perhaps it has something to do with my advanced age of "almost 30." I do find J.K. Rowling's personal story quite inspirational though..... I do have a strange fascination with Twilight series, there I said it. -
Even MORE remake madness.......
Ghost Train replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I got an awesome idea. Let's make a multi-series crossover with Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Kitt (&Karr), The Thunder boat, Viper (lol anyone remember that show?), and the whole cast of Baywatch .... as an added plus all the vehicles battle evil drug dealers and can combine into a giant robot when needed. -
It's interesting how gaming has become so mainstream that we're now comparing films to them, and not the other way around . When Children of Men came out, every video game nerd (myself included) cried "City17!" during the final shoot out in the slums. And I still stand by my original assertion that the MNU is an evil PMC, I mean come on the flick is a clear allegory of apartheid after all.
-
Except that in the X-com, the secret organization are actually the good guys. At least in the trailer and other viral material, the MNU from D9 seemed to be a modern 21st century evil PMC a la Blackwater. ... and yea, X-com was the greatest game ever, loved climbing the tech tree.

The braaaaawng sound in the trailer is epic.

In 2010, Google changes its name to Cyberdyne Systems. http://www.google.com is promptly renamed to http://www.skynet.com .... but no worries, Dennis Hwang will still be the main google Cyberdyne portal artist. -
What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Ghost Train replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yes indeed forgot that one lol, though I have not seen The Place Promised In Our Early Days yet. I just got done with part 3. Takaki's life in the last part as a heartless cubicle dweller (and some other aspects of parts 1 & 2) seem to be a bizarre animu version of my own late teens and early twenties.... it struck a chord and I shed a single manly panda tear of sadness. I don't quite get what it is that drives him to act the way he does though, perhaps such an emotional piece will inevitably contain chunks lost in translation. -
Alto emerging from a bowl of noodles is sort of disturbing.

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Ghost Train replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Watching 5cm/sec . I loved Voices of a Distant star so thought I'd give this a whirl, despite the lack of scifi elements. Though it seems that a lot of Makoto Shinkai's work deal with the common themes of distance and loss. -
I don't have the actual model, but from the photos I've seen Unicorn mode looks a lot better than Destroy-mode (my opinion anyways). The day I build mine, I'll just leave it in the former mode and not bother with the transformation .
-
hehe I admit to dl quite a lot of those too . I'm not so sure about holiday-themed valks, but I'd probably consider some non-macross anime themed valkyries. Imagine a Haruhi-Custom VF-1S, or a Saber Lily YF-19, etc so on and so forth.

The question is worded incorrectly. They are both men.

The All Things Video Games Thread!
Ghost Train replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
As an EVE player I can say I'm not really surprised , though the scale of this is mind-boggling. Scamming and meta-gaming is so common in EVE that most players have developed a 6th sense to tune it out. It is also what makes this game stand out in the sea of MMO's (and why I love it). -
PS3 exclusive ???1!?? That is Communism! I demand a 360 and Wii version.

Thousands of years ago ....in a city totally submerged underwater .... emerged a hero .... that would save the world TETRIS 2010 A film by Uwen Boll

Maybe it will be a loose open interpretation of Asteroids - centering around a family trying to survive the global economic recession discovering that having each other is more important than their former life of luxury. It will star Will Smith.

As for rl mechs, the only thing I see in the near future are even more advanced UCAV drones and perhaps something akin to powered exoskeletons. As cool as scifi mechs are I don't seem them being too practical. Any advantage conferred by the fact that it's bipedal is negated by size and lack of stealth.

Nobody has made the assertion that Japan is some sort of multicultural paradise where everyone is respected and treated equally. The cases of discrimination, "Japan-only" and where landlords will never rent to foreigners, etc are well known to anyone who has ever bothered to read about it. The reason people got defensive about your post is that you asserted that somehow your experience as being a "victim of discrimination" in Japan has led you to conclude that all Asian men are perverts and spineless punks as you stated in your last post. You undoubtedly bring experience to the table since as you say you have lived there for 4 years - but to sort of classify a whole continent comprised of thousands of culture in such a manner is stretching it. The argument here is that your negative experience is not particularly unique to Asia or Japan. And in all honesty... although the insults taunted against you are nothing short of low brow and retarded, it is relatively mild compared to what some people endure elsewhere. Go cry to a victim of Apartheid / Jim Crow, an Auschwitz / Nanking survivor, and count your own blessings. ... and congrats on being a pro in Japanese.

Evangelion 2.0: You can (Not) Advance
Ghost Train replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I can't wait to see the new character, I've bored with the 10+ years of marketing juxtaposition of Shinji, Asuka, Rei, and Kaoru: meganekko <3 -
I was also under the impression that VF100 ~ the Robot Damashii line.... but I'm glad I was wrong. I've been debating whether or not to get the Alto VF100 despite the lukewarm reviews, perhaps I will wait now to see what this stuff is about.

So you base your whole assessment on #4 & #5 being true on a few chance encounters lol? I mean granted there are probably perverts in Japan ... ok, that is more like a 100% certainty, but there are pervs in every country and culture, what you discussed is not really specific to Japan. I hear plenty of stories of inbreeding, and "keeping it in the family" habits of people who live in the South here in the US, but I don't go around believing that this is the norm for all people in this country and even in that region for that matter. Also, just because you stood up to a few punks does not discredit their whole male population as being weak. I worked in Detroit (the most dangerous city in America) for a year, and had quite a few encounters where I had to raise my voice on some little punk gangsta wannabe - yet this does not decrease, increase, or affect my perception of a black / latino male.
