Like KillerRobot points out, there is a longstanding theatrical tradition, not just in Japan, to use males to play females. However, I suspect that Alto's characterization is because of this recent virulent trend in anime that is obsessed with effeminate looking guys.... but that's ok, Ozma's Gar level is sufficient to cover the testosterone requirement of any action flick.

For me it is cyclical. On some days I just go, "lol transforming airplanes gtfo" and other times I just need to get a Macross fix and rewatch Zero, or Plus which are short enough for the fixed duration of said fix. I think that it really depends upon how reliably EMS works for you as opposed to where you buy it from . Sometimes I've had the magical 2 day turn around, but others I've waited for up to 2 weeks. As for the retailers, I personally prefer Hobby Search. Their inventory and restock is not as good as HLJ but after several orders I've noticed they are much faster at sending stuff to you. The problem with HLJ is their totally borked ordering system - I suspect there is a lot of manual input going on behind the scenes. The whole process whereby I place an order today and you manually enter the order into your system the next day is so 20th century.
