Human Protoculture Intervention Hypothesis
Ghost Train replied to frothymug's topic in Movies and TV Series
Most of that stuff of course is major BS. Although it's entirely possible that ET's have visited (and continue to do so) Earth in the past, and even stepped out to say hi - to attribute (like HI does) most non-Western accomplishments to aliens is ridiculous. Why isn't it possible that American pre-Columbian cultures were good at mathematics, or that Egyptians had a good grasp of engineering? I never hear anyone say that the Colosseum, the Parthenon, or the Roman Aqueducts were constructed from aliens do you? I think if our current history were somehow lost, future humans studying the 20th century would certainly attribute things like the rise of flight technology to aliens, since it only took 66 years between the Kittyhawk's first flight and the Apollo 11 moon landing. And the DNA claim is equally retarded. So if they tampered with Neanderthal DNA, did they do it for their ancestors, and to the one before them? There are a number of plausible terrestrial theories that explains the decline of Neanderthal, one of which is that they interbred with Homo Sapiens migrating out of Africa - a theory for which there is actual measurable DNA evidence. -
Bandai DX Chogokin YF-29 Durandal Valkyrie
Ghost Train replied to UN Spacy's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Bandai probably took Kawamori on a night out, got him really wasted, and made him draw on napkins. Thus the YF-29 was born! -

This is my Damashii GM Sniper II with some random leftover decals. The toy leaves a little bit to be desired, so a few decals go a long way in improving its looks.- 6025 replies

Found this really sexy "concept" F-16IN - presumably based off the UAE's new shiny Block 60's: The newer falcons look so incredibly fantastic, but I'm a sucker for CFT's.

I'll reserve judgement when I see it in full color, but for now it seems like what you would get if the VF-25, VF-27, the hot MILF SV-51 had an unholy wild orgy and produced this demonic offspring. Numbering is definitely a nod to another -29 :

It takes a special kind of elite human being to use an iphone. The advanced 4 variants require you to hold the phone a certain way to make a phone call. Definitely not a phone for noobs! (Yea yea Droid II has the same problem, I know) Note: Droid & iPhone users typically work for people who use Blackberries. Thank you. -
I'm on the last mission of the campaign, gotta say that I'm glad I didn't read any spoilers (though I figured out what was going on about 1/2-way through) . I liked the cold war timeline, complete with campy hazmat suit battle and underwater final base. I am also a bit bothered by the weapon anachronism - they pulled it off ok because since most people are ignorant anyways and think that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time, but seeing relatively modern firearms like the FAMAS, Styer Aug, and MP-5 (with pretty contemporary optics to boot) in the 1960's just felt strange for me. Overall it's more of the same. If you enjoyed MW 1&2 (and zombies) you'll probably enjoy this one too.

Although I don't like the cold and do feel that walls are actually great inventions, I've become used to the harsh midwest winters, though it's a lot milder here in the D than in the real great plains. Sometimes when I'm out in the cold I'm reminded of my caveman ancestors who participated in humanity's first stand, fighting the evil Mamooth King Tyrano-Dumbo and his minions of demonic elephants in HAND to HAND combat. My caveman ancestor was called Ghost Chariot.... after this incident he took a left turn, crossed back into Asia and founded China. LOL... they're still around? You'd think that they would have folded by now. I remember trying to argue with their sales rep when I wanted to cancel my account and they kept offering me free (utterly useless) sh!t lol. I was seriously just repeating: JUST CANCEL IT, for like 10 minutes straight like a 5 year old kid - when the sales rep finally gave in to my stubborn stupidity.... this was one of my most proud achievements in life. -

Your post is hilarious and well taken. However, the topic is not so much that I hate all technology but (being the hypocrite that I am) just some of them. The general tech development of our species ever since some wise guy decided to smash two stones together has generally been positive, as evidenced by the fact that at least in the developed world, 30 is no longer considered "old age." My point is that our intellectual and financial capital is invested in areas that produce very little value to society. In 1969, NASA put boots on the moon, this, despite the fact that the processing power on my PC is in the order of thousands of times more powerful than that of the Apollo module's flight computer. Yet today, we have lost the ability to return to the moon and won't be able to regain this until at least a decade. In a more down-to-earth example, take a look at the transportation infrastructure around you. The US transportation infrastructure is essentially stuck in 1950, with interstates and bridges in need of serious repair. Across the Pacific China is laying down high speed rail supporting trains with cruising speeds of 300+ km/hr. Over here, all of our talent pool is being poured into developing more powerful forms of Viagra, social networking so we can take up bandwidth communicating our worthless sh!t, and sending kids to get top-tiered MBA's so they can develop new and ingenious ways of generating wealth from nothing! -
What technologies do you absolutely despise? Can be related to entertainment, transportation, communications, or just random crap that you wish were never invented. 1) 3D: It does nothing for me - I don't see stuff flying out of the screen (I assume this is the intended effect). I just leave the theater with a splitting headache and nausea - what a way to spend $20 . Could have gotten 2 six-packs of decent beer for that amount and achieve a headache and nausea. Perhaps I have some sort of cognition impairment that prevents me from enjoying this sort of crap. I seriously hope that in 10 years, 3D does not become the norm of movies/tv. 2) Smart phones: Yes, it's cool that I can get my email through it and do some ad-hoc internet research on the go... but it's really gone too far. People walking into cars, walls, manholes, etc, young people who can't communicate ideas verbally while maintaining eye contact, texting while driving, s*xting, etc.... Which is why Microsoft deserves props for this commercial (which coincidentally is for W7 smartphones): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHlN21ebeak Let's not forget the intense microwave radiation your testicles (or ovaries) are absorbing while your phone sits near your midsection. Lucky for you, Microwave is non-ionizing. I swear though, even if phones emitted gamma radiations it would not really stop anyone. 3) TSA security scanners: Someone needs to research why a country that is constantly under attack has had 3+ decades of operating its national airlines without a hitch and without full body scanners. 4) Social Networking: For decades people have been complaining how the gahmen is taking away your rights, invading your privacy, etc. .... Guess F'ing what? You're doing it to yourself ! On 99.99% of issues I don't see eye to eye with Ayn Rand, but on this I agree 100%: Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men. 4b) Twitter: I'm seriously not interested in what you had for breakfast this morning. This leads us to a general observation about "user generated" internet content in general: 5) Form-fitting plastic containers for electronic devices: I absof'inglutely hate hate hate hate hate hate this crap. It took me 5 f'ing minutes to locate a pair of scissors, cut the freaking container to get my new USB storage out (which by the way is a tech I actually like), run to the first aid kit cuz the sharp plastic almost slid my finger in half. .... /thread start

Strategy and Military Doctrine
Ghost Train replied to Million Star's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think all wars should be automated with UAV's and drones. Every four years we have WARCON20XX event (I'd tuck it right between E3 and Comicon) where countries from around the world duel together in this tournament. It will significantly alter the balance of military power in the world. The US will only be the third most powerful military in the world, as its war-Operators prefer tactical scenarios such as "Farmville" and "Angry Birds", and of those predisposed towards "war software" most are whinny teenagers or 30-somethings who have to leave in the middle of e-Combat to feed the baby (yes, joke borrowed). South Korea, with its vast Starcraft e-Warfare experience, will be the second preeminent world military power. China will ascend to be first place, because it farms the gold/and e-currency all other countries need to buy to participate in WARCONN - cuz you know western war-Operators are too busy "playing the game" to actually farm, and thus prefer to trade real money for fake money. ... My 0.02, discuss. -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Ghost Train replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
So I've been catching up on my anime lately due to end of year work-load. Working on Index S2, Soredemo Machi Wa... (tactical maido action!), and that disgusting filthy piece of taco bell diarrheal dog crap that is Oreno No Imouto Ga... . Really enjoying the current season of Index S2. Damm, if DNA is any indication of how grown Biri-Biri will look like, Touma better hurry the hell up and finish tripping all the remaining Mikoto flags -
We interrupt this serious defense discussion with this exciting news. . (lol I apologize if someone's posted already). Hobby Search has a Feb release date. The zvezda website already has instructions and pics of the runners published. I've heard zvezda kits are really hit & miss. Their SU-37 still had raised panel lines... in any event, I'll probably get this one since it's the only kit for this beauty. You can also build it with a stand it seems, which is a plus for me.

What do you think is the most innovative VF design?

VF-11, it reproduces like rabbits and returns 5 minutes after its demise.... to be destroyed again. -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Ghost Train replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Two episodes behind but still watching. Hehe didn't know it was based off a real location, perhaps your mom's hometown will become an Otaku tourism mecca soon like the K-On school and the Lucky Star town . As I don't speak Japanese, and given the absurdist nature of the humor I do get that feeling that some of the humor is lost, but I find what I get out of it entertaining. -
I can't believe Stargate Voyager Galactica has outsurvived Caprica ... have we grown tired of Science Fiction Realism?

Bandai 1/100 VF-2SS Valkyrie II Super Armed Pack worth it?
Ghost Train replied to GU-11's topic in Model kits
This kit is decent, fighter mode looks somewhat respectable, but battroid is a little bit chubby. This site shows all 3 modes: Link I'm not a huge fan of the huge turret SAP pack, so my preference would have been a clean VF-2SS, for which conversion kits apparently do exist. -
This really should go on the automotive thread, but the EF is just too sexy in this video for that... Eurofighter vs. Franco-German Super-Car:

What is your favourite Macross gunpod.
Ghost Train replied to Nicaragua's topic in Movies and TV Series
Meh... I'm gonna deviate from the pack here and say I love the YF-19 Gunpod particularly because it doesn't look like a crude metallic tube with a chaingun tucked inside. The Excalibur's gunpod looks more like a tacticool rifle/carbine. -
They should have called this: True Grit .
