Title self-descriptive. Perhaps I should add a "other then Macross" clause . My top: The Halo Universe. Halo is not particularly profound - a super soldier tearing through hordes of aliens in a desperate battle. However, starting from game 2 the folks of Bungie added quite a lot of meat to the in-game universe. Perhaps one reason it's my top pick is the usage of sci-fi realism that can also be observed in franchises like BSG. Ballistics are still used as primary weapons, vehicles still have wheels and threads, and the grunts who slugs it out in the trenches are still at the heart of the trenches - no hover tanks, anti-gravity engines, or directed energy weapons used by the UNSC, yet these crude weapons proved at least somewhat effective against the Covenant. Another reason is just the complete bleak desperation that was conveyed in the third game and Reach. It is not the first time a story puts humanity on the verge of extinction, but the story (and advertising) did this in a rather polished and sophisticated way. I still shed manly tears of sadness watching this: Runner-up: The Dark Tower. It starts off as a spaghetti western, makes a side-trip to 1980's New York City, and continues down a post-apocalyptic world that has moved on. An effective cross between Dr. Who and Clint Eastwood. To sum it up into 1 paragraph is hard, but it is definitely one of the most fascinating worlds of 20th/21st century literature. If you are looking for a nice 7 volume epic fantasy story this is it. What prevents this from being my #1 and dethroning other legends like LoTR is the complete cop-out ending of the last book.

The hack wars continued, as Square Enix becomes the next victim: Link . Having wasted 3 years of my life on FFXI, and personally experienced repeated account breaches, this really does not surprise me. -
It's hard to nail down 1 country to 1 production of a movie / TV Series / etc nowadays as everything is global now. I mean Hollywood itself is pretty much dominated by Australians XD ...

We need a female Krogan to fill Wrex/Grunt's shoes... this way Shepard can solve the fertility crisis the natural way! Those slimy blinking Salarians will never develop a cure.

BBC America will be airing the series starting June 18. It's 2004 all over again! Source.

VOTE MACROSS IN SAI MECHA TOURNAMENT
Ghost Train replied to Xard's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Although I was pretty excited when all this started, I don't see this being succesful unless we start bringing in tons of mecha from the "golden era" ... there just isn't enough new mecha content each year, whereas there is pretty much like 20 new moeblob imouto tsundere per season. (On a related note, I feel like I'm the only person in the world who supported Biri-Biri in ISML in the final battle against Mio ;_; ) -

Yawn: Country A attacks Country B, wins because the former has super flying fortress. Country B retreats to a base in a tiny corner of the map Country A sends bombers to said base, your first mission starts, super-ace who can pull monster G's without blacking out makes his debut. Country B's Air Force slowly advances. Country A uses super-weapon Country B realizes that super-weapon has to go down. Country B destroys super-weapon Country B keeps advancing Country B liberates its capital Country A ... YEP U GUESSED IT, ANOTHER SUPERWEAPON Country B's ace pilot flies into a trench AWACS: War is bad mmmkay? Namco: Buy our overpriced Itasha Idolmaster planes and replay the game. The End. -

I can imagine eva-01 eating a vf-25, followed by a burp, and suddenly braking into a nyan nyan dance that loops for 20 minutes while Rei and Asuka quietly ride an elevator. Third impact ensues. -

The MW Automotive Thread Quattro SpecV
Ghost Train replied to areaseven's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I will hopefully have my new Focus 2012 Hatchback next week . My plan was to go for the basic 400A Titanium version, but I opted for a high-end SEL model with 85% of the Titanium version's perks. Test drove the basic SE and SEL, and this completely blows away any conceptions I had about compact vehicles, what the Focus name conjures up ... this is a completely new vehicle compared to the plain-old Focus of the past decade. It will probably also be the closest in terms of design to the very popular Euro-Focuses... until we get the ST that is. -
I feel that having Cerberus as a major antagonist again greatly diminishes the choice of saving the collector base and getting on the I.Man's good/bad side. Although Cerberus has its share of very ruthless operatives, as a whole the organization is amoral. Jacob, the engineers (or most of the SSV II's crew for that matter), and the secretary of course are certainly not murderers or bad people.

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?
Ghost Train replied to Macross007's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I feel that the only way to make this work is to script a scifi/dystopian film somewhat loosely based on Akira. They should just never mention that Akira is related in anyway to the project, so that only the most hardcore will make the connection, and go see it to check it out. (It would probably still suck) Then this will trigger more virality by having people argue on the boards whether or not it's actually based on Akira. Past Successes of this film-making model. - The Departed is based on the HK film Internal Affairs. - Apocalypse Now is a modern adaptation of the short story Heart of Darkness. - Children of Men is a very loose adaptation of Half Life II. ... ok just kidding about the last one . -
I miss the pseudo-legal arms dealer "requisitions officer." ;_;

It'd be cool if Shepard kept the SR-2... But just as it's about to be popped by a group of reapers, another Normandy based on the original design but upgraded to the II's spec commanded by Anderson shows up for the rescue. (Single greatest moment of BSG)

FURIOUS OVER NEW CONAN (Conan the Barbarian remake)
Ghost Train replied to Agent ONE's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
right.... -
In my opinion cementing things and locking it into 1 mode is the only correct way to tackle the Bandai 1:72. You are doing it right. Having said that, it's a bit pricy for a single-mode model, but then again you have the flexibility to build it into either F/G/B mode.

Interesting designs... but the story and concept reeks of the same ol' tired sino-phobic bullsh!t: UK taking back HK, Independent Tibet, etc. Also, nice photoshop of the Chinese emperor lol.

The drones make a rather unremarkable final boss for this series, which is how it looks like it's turning out.

Ghost Train replied to HWR MKII's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
There seems to be a resurgence of all things Trek, perhaps it was the movie combo'd with Star Trek Online. Still got some touch-up work on my Enterprise refit, but it's coming along nicely. Here Admiral Saber is inspecting her Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser Refit: -
