Not bad! I’ve been scouring the eye decals, And have not found anywhere how do I put this… the top half of the eye is bigger than the bottom half and it’s not such a cat Eye look. You know the 80s kind of style. Anyway yours are a bit like the modern ones too but they look better than the otheroptions I saw. Do you happen to know what manufacturer and sheet number that is? Thanks!

When I get mine I’m going to take a picture of the face and then Photoshop it so that the eyes are moved down slightly. It’s possible that will make her look right. Right now she looks like an older woman like by 10 years. Also depending on the size of the eyes they may be able to be replaced by those decal eyes you can get. I wonder…

I’ve always wondered how, or if, he gets the paint to be sturdy enough to withstand transformation . Any ideas?

I have similar feelings. It had this vibe for me of a slow anime. Characters staring into the sky and whatnot. mysticism. I wish i could get into it, and frontier and delta. SDF is the only one that completely hit the spot story wise, and Macross Plus Because as you guys described where the action sequences were great but character story bored me. And I have to admit Macross seven because despite all of the goofiness it was still a fun ride. i will still buy a vf-0 though. Very nice design and not spindly and thin like newer valks

Based on things I’ve received in the past three or four months from HLJ I’d guess around 40 to 45 bucks. For DHL or FedEx

Update.. I dragged it out of storage.. The hands do all have an insert piece. but they are slightly different sizes. If you don't mind a little shimming with some plastic sheet styrene sheets, (pla plate for gundam'ers out there) and you dont mind using one of your other many valk hands as a donor... this might be the best way to get a truly 'sturdy' solution. see pic...

I'm a little late to the game here.. but it looks like that fist has a removeable rectangular part with the connector on (now broken off) it. Do any of the fists you like less have the same part and you could carefully cut it out and swap in a non broken one? I'd answer myself but i don't have a set of non-tv sets handy they are all in the storage room in box

The Unofficial Macross Sight Gag Thread
lavinrac replied to the white drew carey's topic in Movies and TV Series
So random. but I just noticed a Zentraedi ship with Harlocks skull on it in Ep 27 Ai Wa Nagareru! Did anyone else see this? I don't know the exact time but its about 1 minute after Minmay starts singing, and a couple seconds after the Orguss Valkyrie shows up. -
I'd like them to release the anime they are from... I've never seen any of these mysterious robots in my life before because they were clearly labeled 'Japan Only' in the past!
-
Deleted. because i literally just gave the same idea in different words.

I have the Yamato 1/60, but my god these DX's are beautiful.

If anyone knows where some translations are, let me know. I will send you a dated photo of me holding my paid for physical copies. Feel free to scold/delete this post if its out of line.

Just rewatched SDF Macross.. I regret not buying the TV Max DX. Oops! Oh well. Maybe sometime I'll trade an unopened GBP Armor + some cash for a Max.. I SERIOUSLY Doubt theres any chance of a reissue of Max VF-1A TV version.. There's nothing to add to it to resell it.. Unless they want to add a 'missiles on the tailfins' edition

Pulled some Macross’ the First volumes off the shelf yesterday and today. They are gorgeous, and annoyingly incomplete.. i have all 6 physical volumes, i was irritated to find they were rebooted without even finishing a first time around… what got me to get them off the shelf was some very wishful thinking as i am rewatching SDF Macross. I decided to rewatch THIS time with the english dub just to check it out, but I took the blu rays and dvds and replaced that crummy dvd film grain video with the nice 1080p, did a bit of combining in Premiere and the result is not bad. As i age (48) im less actively hostile toward dubbing.. ANYHOW.. its so clear that every other episode or so was farmed out to be poorly drawn and Mikimoto’s character designs are not faithfully recreated in threes Eps at all… which got me to look again, wistfully, at what did get completed of ‘The First’ So the wishful thinking was that someday someone would truly remaster the tv show, like by carefully fixing everything, redrawing the bad stuff with the exact same look as the original.. 36 episodes of Ai Wa Nagareru or Pine Salad quality! (Think Like the grassroots Star Wars Despecialized Edition kind of project.. if i were 20 I’d probably try to do it myself! (I was going to be an illustrator but ended up in graphic design, then IT) … if anyone noticed sell it to that American company we all love haha. ) That is what got me looking at The First again.. ah well, will never happen. And anime character design has turned a corner, mostly into styles I dont like. Even Mikimoto, while getting even more skill.. has still changed to characters with less softness whose nose tips are sharp enough to cut glass in these modern manga versions. At least he still put lots details in. As a kid, one of the attractive thing about Macross was how realistic the story seemed compared to normal American TV fare, and his character designs looked more like regular people than all the superheroes and such. Wow, i didnt mean to write an essay. Maybe ill copy it into a post on facebook and other old timers car reminisce too. Continuing this discussion would very way off the topic of the manga. I’m assuming that Macross the First is truly dead by now and will not be finished. Someone know different??

Thanks! Indeed that thread is a rabbit hole! I have tried the RetroBrite think on a 501st stormtrooper helmet. worked great, then it re-yellowed in record time... Anyhow let me not get off topic any more. Thanks for the lead!
-
That's the one. Guaranteed breakage over time if you take the armor on and off. and yea, its molded too big to fit easily. Its just such a strange thing to see on a toy thats engineered so well in so many other places!
-
That makes sense, but I don't know enough about light spectrums and UV to know if the indoor overhead fluorescents can cause yellowing. The room I use has blinds that are always shut. Maybe the yellowing is just inevitable from the plastic used. I'm SURE i can find a thread on THAT.
-
Tell me if there's a better thread for this. But this looks like a good place to ask about MODDING Detolfs... Has anyone tried, or had success, with putting UV film (like in car window tint) on your detolfs to help avoid yellowing of plastic in the toys?

VF-1J with GBP received. its Glorious... So vaguely remember reading this in the thread somewhere, but I just need to (minorly) vent.. What is with that tiny peg that is too tight in the bottom of the groin armor? its like they put it there just so there was something that would break super easily and you could give your Valkyrie that first little 'breakage' and feel bad like when you buy a brand new car and someone dings the door. There are like 10-20 different kinds of engineered connectors on this thing, and then they give us that one off a 1982 Imai kit?!?!? Note: I did not break it - YET.. but i did shave it down a bit with the x-acto
-
That might just work. There I was thinking of sanding and scraping and such.

Anyone ever post a fix for the intake covers? the left one seems a touch too big on several of my dx's and just pops out. I haven't seen a DIY thread on fixing it.
