  1. That's mentioned in the pilot episode. It's also why the Airwolf patch on the uniforms is literally a wolf in sheeps clothing.
  2. The Cobi Brick Titanic set actually came with one! This one looks a hell of a lot more detailed though. I wonder how they would scale together?
  3. As things stand now yeah the Japanese beating Canada is a joke. Still though, they're not as bad as many would think they are. Yes, there's a massive drop off in talent of the top big three of Canada, United States, and Finland, but sixth in the world for Japan is nothing to sneeze at. The way I see it, the Japanese Women's team is on the cusp of taking the next step in hockey. The fact that they can hold their own on ice against the likes of Germany, Russia, and Sweden as well as this silly little show even existing is a testament to that. If this show like the coach says in regards to her goofy idol scheme can put butts in the seats and get more women interested in the game, then all the better. As far the show itself goes I kinda like it. Goofy Japan beating Canada/Idol dance dream sequence opening aside, it's just getting started and I think it has a lot of potential. Honestly seeing the girls finally stepping on the ice and getting their first lesson in hockey playing brought a smile to my face and reminded me of my childhood. I went through those same skating and passing drills back when I first started playing many MANY years ago.
  4. To quote Herbert Powell from the Simpsons... "This monstrosity cost how much???"
  5. What do you call a movie you enjoyed watching, but it was still kinda crap and gets worse the more you think about it? Yet you don't hate it? What ever word best represents that, that's what this movie is.
  6. "No man of woman born shall harm Macbeth."
  7. New official trailer for Pride Of Orange girls ice hockey anime. I'm surprised all the text in the trailer is in english. It makes me wonder if they are going to push hard for an international release? The CBC would probably pick this up for national broadcast! You guys have no idea the anticipation I have for this show.
  8. Honestly I couldn't tell you as the last time I watched the series was on U.S. Manga Corps old dvd sets before they went out of business. It looks alright to me, then again I'm not exactly watching it on a high end 8k rez monitor either. The older stuff seems to be in SD though while the newer OVAs are HD. Honestly I'm just happy to be able to watch most of the franchise in one place for a decent price and not pay $70-100 dollars for an out of print import dvd that may only have one or two episodes on it.
  9. I picked up the Votoms complete bluray collection off of a Sentai Filmworks sale on their website for $30. I have to say this is probably the best value of a boxset I have ever gotten in my life, as it looks like it has every single piece of Votoms animation ever made short of Armor Hunter Mellowlink! Watching all of this though I've made a kind of interesting observation. Is it ever explained how a Scopedog can operate in the vacuum of space without killing it's pilot, yet it leaks so badly in water that drowning is a very real danger even for a fully suited pilot?
  10. The Fremen jihad is something that isn't even depicted in the novels, and we only see the repercussions and effects of it in the the plot of the follow up to the first book Dune Messiah. If any of it is depicted in this film outside of a few spice induced visions then this film will be even more condensed than what even David Lynch's version was. Either that or this film is deviating even more wildly than Lynch's from the original plot.
  11. You know, this is pretty much why I don't watch comedies or slice of life shows anymore. 30+ years of anime watching and it's the same dumb tired jokes of guy says something awkward, guy walks in on girl in the shower, or girl changing, or trips and falls landing on said girl with a knee full of crotch & and a handfull of bewbie all resulting in the guy getting punched to the moon. It was old and tired in Love Hina, and it's even more older and more tired today. Imagine how bad all comedy films or sitcoms would be in the US if they all used the same recycled jokes from Jim Carey's Ace Ventura over and over again. You'd want to shoot yourself.
  12. I can't say I care for the segmented torsos Aoshima is using for it's characters with bare midriffs. I've seen it on their Atlanger and now this one and it just doesn't look "natural" the way the previous ones in one piece swimsuits or Kotobukiya's machinka bodies do. It looks like there's a second chest trying to grow in under the first one.
  13. This film reeks of the Golden Compass situation. That film spent it's entire run building up to something it never paid off ending on a cliff hanger and promising everything would be answered in a sequel that never came due to it's failure at the box office. At least we got the His Dark Materials series out of it. That might be Dune's best bet, ending up as a big budget series on HBO or Showtime ala Game Of Thrones.
  14. Aliens: Fireteam Elite looks like they took the combat from the Mass Effect series and none of the rpg elements or world building. The difficulty of this game is wonky too. Casual mode is super easy barely an inconvienience, while the "intense" mode the game recommends as how the game is meant to be played gets obnoxious quite quickly. You get attacked by swarms of the doggie alien from Alien 3 which are hardly a threat mixed with occasional specials like spitters, bursters which are midly obnoxious, but the ones based on the Big Chap and Warrior from the films are downright unfair. They will literally pop up out of nowhere(not even out of a vent or door) run by you at two hundred mph hit you for over half your health then run away again while taking over two thirds of your ammo to put one down. This gets old fast which is why the game switches gears and starts throwing Weylan Yutani synthetics at you and the game becomes a generic cover shooter. Honestly this is not a game you probably want to play by yourself, and there can definately be some fun had trying to survive with friends, but this just feels shallow with artifically scaled difficulty to lengthen the gameplay experience.
  15. Considering they put a stop on pre-orders for other products they offer like the Frame Arms Girl Durga kit from Kotobukiya I'm inclined to agree that their statement that they have no way of cutting off pre orders is complete B.S.
  16. It's funny you say that because the humor and tone of the original film was closer in line to that of the Indiana Jones trilogy especially The Last Crusade than a straight up comedy of the times like Stripes, Caddy Shack, The Three Amigos, or Spies Like Us
  17. *cracks knuckles* Welcome to my forte! I actually presentations on ice hockey in Japan! Hockey in Japan has existed since the early 1920s when it was introduce by the so called "sports minister" Ryozo Hiranuma. He's also the guy that helped introduce baseball, and was instrumental in bringing both the 1940 Summer & Winter Olympics to Japan, before... WWII kinda forced them to be cancelled. Anyways the Japanese women's national team has existed since at least 1986 and were part of the first official IIHF women's world championship in 1990, and the earlier 1987 test series. They've had three Olympic appearances, once as host in 1998 and twice by qualifying under their own merit in 2014 and 2018. They're currently ranked 6th in the world and are in the IIHF's top division alongside USA, Canada, Finland, Russia, and Switzerland. Their recent success at the Olympics(in 2018 they actually won games and got out of the pool stage) and their ability to hang on in the top championship level is probably what's driving the push for this anime.
  18. This is probably my most anticipated anime in a long time if not ever. I've waited for what seems lik forever for an actual ice hockey anime.
  19. And...that's about all he has. Everything else is just half baked plots about apartheid analogs or sticking it to the "man" full of unlikable characters who are supposed to be the protagonists that you find yourself kind of rooting against or down right hating.
  20. Typical Russian selling tactic. Sell cheap then get them on the back end with overpriced spares and technical support for the planes built in flaws.
  21. Chani in the novels is 15 at the start of Dune(16 if you follow the prequel timeline) then 17(or 18) by the end and is physically described as a skinny redhead with all blue eyes. So far no adaptation has gotten this right.
