And this is the biggest issue with things like this and why I feel the Godzilla franchise is now 0 for 2 on big budget anime projects. Screw with the original formula too much and people just won't care. You might as well make your own generic giant monster series at this point. People who want to watch a Godzilla anime series aren't tuning in to watch a pseudo science lecture on quantum physics or surrealist dystopian futures where plant based Godzilla fights a forbidden mathematical equation. No, they are there to see a giant radioactive dinosaur stop on cities and throw down with other familiar giant monsters while humanity tries to survive and find ways to destroy the monsters. Establish that first and then you can do all the experimental "what if's" with the franchise all you want. So yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Dragon Ball Z the **** out of it! Go full on over the top big dumb spectacle fight with it, not Evangelion or Serial Experiments Lain with it. It may be dumb and flashy, but it at least wouldn't have you confused or questioning what the hell is going on.

That plane has quite the history behind it. Not too often you see one with a kill marker on it let alone one from the first gulf war. -

My flight on the Stearman got cancelled. It doesn't look like any of the planes had any luck today. FiFi made her first flight of the morning, but the brakes locked on landing and flat spotted the tire on the starboard landing gear. The P-51 had mechanical breakdown on start up, and with bad weather moving in the two trainers are leaving early to make their next stop. I actually feel bad for the Stearman pilot flying into a head wind to make it out to Albany from here. That can't be easy in an open cockpit biplane that only has 200hp. -

Anybody here ever go up in a vintage warbird? The Comemorative Air Force's B-29 FiFi is visting my local airport, and in about five hours I'm going up in PT-13 Stearman Kaydet so I'm a little anxious/hyped. I had a choice of a P-51, a T-6 Texan, or the Kaydet, and I chose the Kaydet. There's just something about an open cockpit biplane that I find appealing. Sure riding in a P-51 would have been fun, but getting stuffed in behind the pilot in a plane designed for one just didn't seem right. I wish I could have gotten a ride on FiFi, but they were booked months before I even knew they were coming. -

This weekend also marks the 79th anniversary of the Battle of Midway. Arguably one of if not the most important and decisive navy engagements of the entire war . In less than ten minutes the entire situation in the Pacific was reversed. Here's a quick video from the WII In Real Time channel summing up the main part of the battle. If you want more details I suggest reading two books, Miracle at Midway by Gordon Prange for a US perspective, and Shattered Sword by Anthony Tully & Jonathon Parshall(the guy that runs the combined fleet website) for a more recent view using Japanese sources. -

Today's the 77th anniversary of the D-day Normandy invasion landings to retake Europe from the Third Reich. Here's some footage from the 75th anniversary cemetary flyover two years ago when they amassed quite a fleet of C-47/C-53/DC-3's to make the trip including one my brother helped get in flying order from Montana. I don't think there has been that many Skytrain's in one place since the Korean war. -
Waiting patiently for my Dagger L to come in, as unlike some of you guys I don't need v fins, random neon colored spikes/pointy bits, or transformation gimmicks to be happy with a kit.

Yeah... Long story short, the Eternals are essentially the Marvel franchise's version of History Channels' Ancient Aliens if they actually existed in Marvel's universe.

Snake-Eyes - G.I. Joe Origins
renegadeleader1 replied to Old_Nash's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't know who has the more tragic backstory in the GI Joe mythos, him or Hit & Run. Like Snake Eyes Hit & Run also lost his family to a drunk driver except who did it is unknown because he hit his family and ran. He was only three years old at the time and has no memory of his family. He spent his entire childhood escaping from foster homes and juvenile dentention until he turned 18 and was turned over to the state where he promptly joined the army. He excelled as a basic infantryman and mountain warfare specialist before being inducted into GI Joe where he took the codename Hit & Run. Yeah... The dude ain't all there if his choice of codename wasn't a clue. He has no social life, no meaning, only the army. He's quite literally looking for a place to die. -
I don't know, but there's no way I'm saying that actor's name out loud unless I know how it's exactly pronounced.

That's Flak Bait isn't it. Makes for an interesting restoration. Restore it to factory conditions or leave all bullet holes and patches it earn in it's 200+ completed combat missions? -
Venom: The Last Dance - October 25, 2024
renegadeleader1 replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Let me give you some advice. Like you I put off watching it. I didn't expect it to be good, it had no business being good, but after about ten minutes I went from thinking "Hey, this ain't that bad." to "Damn, this is actually pretty good!". It's not mindblowing, but Eddie Brock's interactions with the Venom symbiote make this film. It might be weird to say, but the first film essentially had a feel of a buddy cop film like Lethal Weapon, Tango & Cash, or Rush Hour and it really works. I'd definately recommend it. -

Not too many Martin B-26 Marauders left in existance let alone still flying.(I think only one is still airworthy) I got lucky to see one in person when I went to the USAF Museum a couple of years back. Plenty of Douglas A-26 Invaders though. -
Oh great its like someone saw that Fallout Boy music video Going Down and decided to make a comic and now a crappy netflix series.

The only UK TV the US was familiar with in the 80s was Benny Hill, Dr Who, and whatever was picked to air on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre. -

Well they got her out of the water. Still in pretty good shape for all that happened her the other day. A testament to the skill of the pilot and the Grumman Iron Works. -

This happened yesterday during an airshow in Florida... Talk about your HOLY **** moments(especially for the poor guy that nearly got landed on)! Thankfully no one was hurt and the plane looks like it can still be salvaged and not be a total loss. -

I don't want to sound like a downer here, but I don't think Macross is going to be recieved as well as it's expected to be in the west. The lack of access to or knowledge of Macross over the years for the average anime fan has expectations being something they're not. People are expecting some type of epic space opera that rivals the Gundam in scale with giant galaxy spanning space battles featuring cool transforming robot fighters. Deep down we all know that's only partially the case because the other part is Big West using the franchise as an advertising vehicle to sell music. Music that people in the west likely won't give a damn about if the reception of things like the AKB0048 anime is any indication. I don't think things like Mac7's Basara scream "LISTEN TO MY SONG!!!" while flying around in a fighter controlled by a guitar for 40+ episodes, Flashback glorified extended music video, or Delta's all girl pop idol group doing dance choreography in time with their fighters while fireworks and glowsticks shoot off everywhere are going to be well recieved. Outside of MacII and Plus which already say western releases that just leaves Frontier and Zero of which I think only Frontier will be well received as that is closest to what the preconceived notion of what Macross should be is. Meanwhile Zero on the other hand has it's own issues. People are going to complain about the blending of cgi and cell not working and I don't think people are going to take to the psuedo-religious mythological imagery all that well. -
I get what you're trying to say here, nobody wants to see a Harrison Ford in his late 70s going on adventures in the 70s and trying to act like he in his 20s or 30s when it comes to fights and stunts, but it would be a huge mistake to move away from the tone of the classic adventure serial that made the series what it is. Crystal Skull tried that by channeling cheesy 50s scifi with it's tone by tossing commies, pseudoscience that made no sense, psychic powers, and flying saucers and sucked the high hard one for it. Now? He do something else stupid or weird lately within the last two years I don't know about other that being your typical Hollywood weirdo?

Well you should take comfort(or horror) in the fact that USAF Tornado's exist in at least Wonder Woman 84's universe.
