Sounds like the kid wasn't driven to violence because of Pokemon, sounds just like Red Comet said. Society passing the buck. Sounds like he was driven to violence by a society that allows kids to brutally humilate other kids and get away with it, while we tell the victim to suck it up and take it.

I hope this doesn't devolve into yet another "I like 1/48ths"/"Yamato should stop making 1/48ths" pissing contest. I think everyone agrees that Yamato should not make 1/48ths exclusively, and I highly doubt there's any danger of Yamato considering that anyways. There are toys out there that are much larger than the 1/48 VF-1 series, and some of us have plenty of shelf space for them. Some of us happen to like the large size a 1/48th VF-22 would be, and also happen to like the idea of having our Valks in scale to one another, and happen to prefere the 1/48th line. The 1/48ths are expensive and large, some of us can't afford them, don't have shelf space for them, and just plain do not want them. Some of us don't give a damn about our toys being in scale and would rather all of our Valks stood at about the same height. Let us agree that we have different tastes. Let us agree that those who want the 1/48ths can buy them if Yamato makes them, and those of us that don't want them can go to Yamato's growing collection of 1/72nds, 1/60ths, and now 1/100ths.

From the commercial I saw on TV, it looked like they were trying far to much to be aother X-Men movie, but other than that it looked interesting. That's about all I got out of the commercial, need to see more to form a better opinion.

Official Transformers Alternators and more thread.

Count me amongst the weirdos, I enjoy Sideswipe a lot more than Smokescreen. Smokescreen looks better in robot mode, but he's a lot more of a pain to transform, and not as posable as Sideswipe. Still, I really enjoy both of them. Dead End looks sweet, but he still looks like Sunstreaker. I would rather they release him as such, unless this means Streaker will get an improved mold or something. He should be the same sort of car as Sideswipe, so I really don't see how they could improve it that much, unless they did decide to put the thought into a completely different transformation, which would be sweet. Ah well, if the money's available, I do intend to pick up all of the Alternators. Glad to see some Decepticons in the mix. -
I hope you're the only one. It has nothing to do with culture being screwed up. There are things that are acceptable in Japan that are not in the US and vice versa. It just means we're different. Saying we're screwed up because we're different from another culture is rather narrow minded. And while calling your own culture screwed up may be acceptable, do realize that saying the same thing about another would get you branded as a biggot by most people. Good thing I'm American then, so it's alright. Seems I did make a goof up though, I should not assume such quirks are limited to American culture. Shame on me. However, I do think it is silly to be so ashamed of our own bodies that we shouldn't allow children to even know about a part of anatomy that they themselves may have. If that makes me a bigot, then I find human culture silly for labeling me as such, but hey, that's every individual's perogative. I do not believe it makes me narrow minded, however, as I do unsterstand, at least in part, why many cultures are this way and how silly it would be to expect people to change things like that. I also do not believe it makes me ethnocentric, because I do not believe my own personal culture is all that better. I do plenty of screwed up nd silly things. BoB, it wasn't that I thought you were condeming anything, I just find the idea that your situation was a dilemma, even if it was an amusing one, to be a comment about how strange human culture can be at times, for the above reasons.

Am I the only one who sees this as just another example of how screwed up American culture really is.

NEW Trailer for AVP (Aliens vs. Predator).
Radd replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I actually thought the 'hell' clips from Event Horizon were the lamest point in the movie. Of course, I stand by the old idea that you never show 'the monster'. Hell didn't look nearly as bad in that movie as I would imagine it to. It's impossible to capture that kind of horror on film, so most of the best horror writers and directors would go out of their way not to show the monster, and let it creep directly into the heads of the audience, where it would become the creepiest thing that each and every person could imagine. That's why I hated all of the obvious 'scare moments' of the movie. Like where it zooms in on the corpses and stuff. Of course, when you can only catch a glimpse of the terror, then it's a lot creepier. But yeah, I did like the design of the ship and the overall atmospher. I didn't think EH was a bad movie, just not as good as it could have been. This movie? This Aliens vs. Predator? That trailer didn't show nearly enough to give me any hint as to how good or bad it would be. I don't like the director's track record, I don't like how he manhandles fear and utterly fails on terror. I don't like how he emphasizes action to the point that it ruins any pretense on being a 'scary movie'. AvP might be a decent, watchable movie, but I seriously doubt it will be a great movie. Too bad, I was hoping to finally see a good Alien movie, as I've hated every one after the second. -

Strangely enough, it's the idea that they won't keep them their original colours that bothers me more than the brand of cars they use for them. Sure I'd like to see Sunstreaker as a Lamborgini, but it bothers me more that they might not keep him yellow and black like the original. I mean, with the brand, it always could be a licensing issue, whereas with the colour it's a plain and simple lack of respect for the sbuject matter. It would be like Yamato giving us Max and Millia VF-4s that were purple and orange instead of blue and red. -

Radd replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I like it so far, though I'm dissapointed that Sunstreaker isn't a Lamborghini, as that's still my favourite looking car, possibly because Sunstreaker was my first, and favourite Transformer way back in the day. Still, I look forward to this new one. I just hope the final toy is yellow and black, just like the original. Man, the Alternators like just keeps looking better and better, and with my 20th Anni. Prime, they make my old Trasnformers collection look worse and worse. I may just try and sell all of my RiD, Armada (only two, and I regret both), and my G1 reissues off to fuel my Alternator's addiction. I haven't been this excited about a toy line since the Bandai reissues and the 1/48ths. The American releases are also cheap enough for me to seriously consider getting them all. -
Before you question AgentONE, you should ask yourself what Crom thinks of you for questioning him, and will you be able to answer the riddle of doorknobs when you stand before him and Govenor Schwarzenegger.

I won't even suggest that I'm anywhere near some of the more fortunate collectors around these here parts, but I got a nice, modest collection growing. 2 VF-1A -- Bandai 1/55th 1 VF-1A -- Yamato 1/60 2 VF-1A Super -- Yamato 1/48th 3 VF-1J -- Bandai 1/55th (Max, Millia, Hikaru) 6 VF-1S -- Cheap Bootlegs (for eventual customizing practice) 1 VF-1S Strike -- Banpresto 1 VF-1S Super -- Bandai 1/55th 1 VF-1S (with recast strike parts yet unnassembled) -- Bandai 1/55th 1 VF-1S Strike -- Yamato 1/48th 1 VF-11 w/FAST Packs -- Yamato 1/72 1 VF-17 -- Bandai 1/65 1 VF-19 Kai -- Bandai 1/65 1 VF-19 -- 1/100 variable model kit 1 YF-22 w/FAST packs -- Yamato 1/72 And in storage, still waiting to be sent off to a friend for repairs: 1 SDF-1 Macross -- Matchbox So, 23 Valkyries, and a ship to go with them. Still, I have nothing but envy and admiration for Sithlord's collection.

It's interesting to note the varying quality and different issues people have been having with both the 1/48ths and the 20th Anni. Prime. My Hasbro Prime has very solid ankles, not at all loose like some people have described. I'd say my Prime wobbles a lot more than my 1/48ths, but he's yet to tip over. I've had his feet planted firmly on the ground though, as much as I've been able to manage, whereas my 1/48ths have held some pretty dynamic poses for weeks on end, even with the FAST packs attached. That's not to say Prime's a brick or anything, far from it. He's still more posable than a Bandai 1/55th, or almost any of my other Transformers, with the possible exception of Scourge/Black Convoy.

Attention: Egan Loo and other Macross Worlders
Radd replied to Aurel Tristen's topic in Movies and TV Series
You guys are both great assets to the Macross fan community. I look forward to seeing more information and translated texts from both of you in the future. -
It would be great if some decent sized hands could be made that would still fit into the arms for a perfect transformation. Still, even if that wasn't possible, these would be great to have. I much prefere the movie style hands to the tv style hands.

As a fan of giant, transforming robots in genera, old scholl Transformers and Prime specifically, I'm very happy that I just picked up the 20th Anniversary Prime tonight at Toy's R Us. Walmart and Target just did not seem to be carrying them. I've been to both stores once a week every week since the toy came out, and neither of them have had him (or the Alternators Dodge Viper), TRU had both, though the Prime they had was the last one on the shelves. He had the black gun, so I was happy and snatched him up. I'm slightly dissapointed with his truck mode, it's too small compared to his legs, but it's nothing I can't forgive. I can see someone who's more into cars being more upset about something like that. In robot mode, he is pure awesome. Far above and beyond any other Transformers toy I've ever seen. I think I still prefere my Yamato 1/48th Valkyries as they're still more detailed and look better in all modes. I think they're a little more stable standing up, as well. Something tells me Prime would be a more stable toy if he was all plastic instead of die cast, but oh well. As for the little debate about the hands, well I think the Yamato hands are much more capable of holding their guns than Prime's is for his gun, because the Yamato's can put their finder through the trigger fingerguard, gives it a little more stability. I've never had any problem with them dropping their guns, and I've been known to let them sit in a pose with their guns for a couple of weeks. I haven't had Prime long enough to see if he has any problem. I won't argue quality of the toy, except Prime's a lot higher quality than anything in the Energon/Armada/Universe line, by far. A lot higher quality than most similar toys that I've seen. I do amit thought that he's still not nearly as nice looking in truck mode as a lot of truck toys I've seen. Still, I'm more in it for robot mode, and his truck mode still looks a lot more realistic and a heckuva lot nicer looking than any Prime toy since the original G1 Prime.

Macross DYRL Super Poseables
Radd replied to VALKYRIE-EXCHANGE.COM's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
You're not the only one doing that, in fact most if not all of the DYRL? Super Posable threads have been put here, and the mods haven't been moving them. The common reasoning is that people wouldn't look in the Macross toys forum for Toynami toys, even if they are Macross items. I believe the same thing happened when Toynami released the SDF Macross super posables, though I could be wrong on that. -
Macross DYRL Super Poseables
Radd replied to VALKYRIE-EXCHANGE.COM's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wow, an Elintseeker? I am so picking that up, it's one of my favourite designs. Thanks much for the information, though I do find it amusing that info on Macross toys are winding up in the 'Other Sci-fi' forum, just because Harmony Gold and Toynami are making them. -
What's so difficult about taking AnimEigo seriously? They tend to do an excellent job on anything they release, so long as you don't care about dubs.

Valkyrie Development History from Hobby Handbook
Radd replied to Aurel Tristen's topic in Movies and TV Series
It seems to me that Nanashi does have real sources for all his material, it's simply a matter of discerning what's cannon and what's not, and a little polishing of the translations. I think we should be encouraging Nanashi and Egan to work together, since even the non-cannon material is often very interesting, and Nanashi has shown he does like to translate those and mark them as non-cannon references. Such as some of the videogame mecha. -
Hmm, shareholders calling for Eisner to step down
Radd replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Quite simply, Pixar's contract was up and they had little to no interest in renewing. They didn't like working under Disney too much, and were really looking forward to doing their own thing. -
I simply must have one!

Hmm, shareholders calling for Eisner to step down
Radd replied to Effect's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Higher ups at Disney have been calling for Eisner's resignation for a very long time. His business practices have been costing Disney left and right. Their movies have been getting worse and worse, and not just the stories, but Disney's been cutting the quality of their animation as well. Now Pixar's moved on, and Disney has closed their tradtional animation studios, which are what made Disney to begin with, and are trying to create a CG studio much like Pixar, but under tighter Eisner control. Disney has very rough times ahead if they don't oust him. They can survive only so long on their prestige and past success. If they keep getting worse like this, than eventually the money coming in won't be as much as what's going out, and then it's only a matter of time before the company collapses under it's own weight. -
I actually have to agree with Ladi's interpretation of the story. Star Wars has a lot going on, but the primary focus of the entire story is, and has been since at least Empire Strikes Back, been about Anakin/Vader's rise, fall, and redemption. In the original trilogy alone, Vader is pretty much the sole protagonist of the movies. He does stuff, everyone else reacts. He's most definitely the main protagonist. No other character moves the stories along as much as Vader. Orson Scott Card even mentions this in his book about writing science fiction and fantasy which was written before the prequels were out.

Take pretty much everything The White Drew Carey, Keith, and ewilen have posted, add a subtle jab at all of the short, biased, and mainly uninformed responses cropping up (both ways), and soften it all with an objective thought about the whole thing. That's pretty much what I would have posted if I wasn't about to head to sleep.

Just filed my taxes. Seems I now have a couple hundred dollars of disposable income, and my 1/60 Max is tired of slumming it with Guld and Isamu while my 1/48th Max kicks it with the 1/48th Skull Squadron, and my 1/55th Max is trying to pry Millia away from Gamlin. I really do wish Yamato would release those upgrade parts, though...
