What is the quality of these bootlegs and where can I get them? I'm also signed up and waiting for the official set (if it ever happens), but I have the feeling that if it ever does get released, it will be a long ways off from now. I've seen through Episode 42, and the first two movies, I must have more! Right now I'm tiding myself over with Battleflag of the Stars, but it's just not the same.

I gotta agree wholeheartedly with Ali Sama on that point. Whatever other flaws G1 had, the characters all oozed personality. Beast Wars did as well, though there were fewer characters overall. Beasts Machines less so, but still more than anything since (in Beast Machines they thoroughly trashed many of the characters personalities that had been set in BW, one thing I really didn't appreciate about that show). Many of the G1 characters had at lthe very least some superficial personality quirks that made them all unique. Ironhide and his brunt, "let's kick some Decepti-butt" personality. Sunstreaker's vain, pretty-boy persona, with his somewhat gung-ho violent streak. Huffer's 'short-but-strong-guy' archetype. Jazz, do I really need to say anything about Jazz? He was simply The Man. Then you had hints at much deeper personality traits, like Mirage in the first few episodes of the tv series. Mirage was leaning towards, "why are we sticking around this dirtball? I just want to go home." And he almost did do just that, but his loyalty to Prime and the Autobots held out in the end, despite it ruining his big chance to get back to Cybertron. I just haven't seen much of that in the newer shows (RiD on up to Energon). I mean, there's definitely a little bit here and there, but for the most part the characters seem interchangable.

The oldest Yamato Valkyrie I own is my 1/60 Max VF-1A....no yellowing at all, nor on any of my other Valkyries. Then again I'm a nightshifter and have thick blankets hung over my bedroom windows...so that probably helps.

No, we get "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" which also looks freakin' amazing, just in a slightly different way.

Found out it was 2002 after all, August, some time after I'd moved to the midwest. Seems much longer than that. Weird. Where at? Madison. Not a bad town. Relocating next year. Maybe back to my beloved East Coast, but maybe only as far as Chicago. Planning to head back to art school if the government will pay my way. If not, I'll just either go somewhere with friends, or pick a place that seems interesting, that might have more art related jobs. -
I do think that many people see the old G1 toy with the rose tinted goggles of nostalgia. It had a lot of dumb aspects, and some episodes were just utter crap. However, even looking back on those episodes with a more critical eye, I do like the characters protrayed in the G1 show better than RiD or Armada (haven't seen Energon yet). The movie is still, in my eyes, the pinnacle of Transformers. Beast Wars and Beast Machines often had the best writing in any Transformers show, but I really disliked where they took the franchise with those. I like my Transformers as giant war machines, beating the crap out of each other, not as hippie techno-organics fighting the evil machines. I also hated most, if not all, of the character designs from those shows, Beast Machines moreso than BW (wich actually had a few I liked). Armada and RiD were just even more kiddified than G1, and far more than Beast Wars/Beast Machines. The animation in the episodes I saw was also actually worse than the original G1 show, and that wasn't exactly Fantasia. I have nothing good to say about either of them. Energon looked to be more of the same, so I'm passing on that as well. However, on the toys I can speak with more authority. I've disliked most Transformers toys since the initial Diaclone/Microman run of G1 ended. I hated the post-movie toys with a passion. I still dislike the headmasters and their ilk for the same reasons I hated the Armada toys and the Energon toys. I think they're ugly. They're not just ugly, they're fugly. Fat Prime? Every incarnation of Hot Shot has been a wreck. Same with Megatron. Armada Prime's robot mode was at least decent, though his truck mode was still too bubbly and cartoony, and the trailer was an eyesore. The bright, neon colours, the cartoonish-preschool-aimed vehicle designs. Not my cup of tea. Not my cup of tea at all. I can't complain too much, though. 20th Anniversary Prime, and the Alternators give me everything I want. Now if they would just get a show or a comic (that Simon Furman wasn't allowed to touch, nothing personal I just don't like his take on Transformers all that much either), then it would be the perfect TF line.

Since when do Yamato 1/60s cost more than an MPC? MPCs start at 80 bucks, while you can get a Yamato 1/60 with FAST packs for less than that. I'm pretty certain I saw either a VF-1S Strike, or a VF-1J Super for about 60-70 bucks. I've seen Yamatos without FAST packs for as low as 30 bucks. joscasle, try and read between the lines, or just visit the site Blaine pointed out. Both toys have thier flaws and merits. I personally would prefere the Yamato 1/60 line. They really do look a lot better, and they're not quite as unstable as some people make them out to be. If, on the other hand, you prefere a toy that's more fun to simply play with rather than display and transform every now and again, I might suggest the Bandai reissues. I would say that the MPC is a good inbetween those two extremes, however they're just priced far to high to be worth it. Again, my opinion.

Um, everyone saying that the Anti-U.N. perfected the transformation system first is simply going off of Nora's word. I'd wait until the series is over before taking that as fact. Every government tells their people that they're the good guys, and that they came up with the good stuff first. I'm not saying that the Anti-UN didn't come up with it first, I'm just saying that it's too early to tell.

The subtitles were bad. The timing was off, lines were missed, and one of the graphs didn't get subtitled at all. All things that could easily have been fixed had they bothered to edit it. Animeigo used to be known for the care and quality they put into their releases. Sadly, this is no longer the case (just ask KOR fans). Wasn't KOR among some of their first DVDs released as well? I know I'm really happy with their SDF Macross release. I'm looking forward to nabbing a copy of 'Arcadia of My Youth' as well.

Seriously, if you want a G1 Prime reissue, you want the New Years Convoy. http://www.bwtf.com/tfg1/toys/reviews/nyconvoy/ Differences are that the colours are based on the tv show (blue eyes instead of gold eyes, and blue tinted windows), non-castrated smoke stacks, plus it comes with an Action Master Convoy figure, and it comes with the Matrix of Leadership. Of course, if you want something closer to the original toy as it was originally released, get Takara's version, for the reasons other people have come up with. However, if you really don't care, and just want a G1 Prime for nostalgia's sake, then a Hasbro Prime is not bad at all. The missles are longer, and the smokestacks are shorter, but that's really about it. Saves you a lot of money over getting an import, especially the New Year Convoys that are pretty rare by now.

Ditto on what ewilen said. On the main topic, though, I do see a couple simularities, other than both being based off of the same original mech. Two, to be exact. That bar under the gatling gun, being similar to the bar under the cannons on the arms of the Tamahawk II, and the fact that both destroids have roller skates. I think the simularities end there, aside from what they also both share with the original Tamahawk. I do think that the Mac0 Destroid looks closer to a cross between the original, and an Armored Core mech, though. And I believe there were AC mecha will roller skates as well.

I'm not convinced about the girl in the backseat, it really seems as if she's framed by the edges of the cockpit, and a cloud in the background, giving the illusion that it's a poster. You'll also notice that the sky gets darker around the edges of the screenshot. This is a very gradual change when you see the whole sky, but that small section, framed as I pointed out, looks rather sudden, adding to the appearance of being a different shade of blue than the sky. Also notice that the image itself warps slightly at the edges of the screen. I'm not saying that it definitely is supposed to be a real girl, either. I'm simply pointing out that what evidence there is, isn't really evidence at all. In fact, I was thinking it may be a poster just from the screenshot, before reading the thread. I still want to see a custom made of that, though.

A bunch of AnimEigo's early DVDs were kind of glitchy, they are basically 3 guys, a girl, and a monkey, in a garage, after all. They have gotten much better at DVDs, though, and have apparently been planning to rerelease a lot of their earlier stuff at much higher quality.

Crazyness, this forum has become such a standard part of my daily life, that I don't even remember when I joined up. Was it before I moved to Wisconsin in 2002? Or was I on these boards back in artschool (1997-2000)? I know I was on the old boards for a good long while before we switched to the new boards. Man, it's all such a blur. I know I joined the forums almost immeadiately after finding MacrossWorld. I couldn't sit still and lurk in a forum where people were talking about my alltime favourite series. I can't really remember a time when I wasn't a regular here, though it couldn't have been all that long ago...could it? -
I still don't think this is as big a deal as you guys are making it. True, Mac+ dvd's have BW's name on it but it has been for sale in the US for a long time. Mac+ toys are a completely different issue because there was more at stake and we don't know which side is at fault. Maybe Yamato just didn't want to pay HG roylaties or maybe HG was asking too much. Who knows. The bottom line for me is that I see nothing that has changed. There are still no toys being imported and no Mac0 dvd's. Until one of those things happens, I don't think anything else really matters. There has been promising news in the past but HG has shown no signs of changing their ways or giving up. As for whether or not it's a big deal? I think both of you could be right. It's still too early to tell. If the Macross Plus DVD showing up in the Robotech.com store was the only shocker of the past couple months, then I'd be inclined to agree that it was nothing...at least until something else happened. However, to say nothing has changed is completely false. We now see DYRL? based toys being promoted domestically. That in itself is a very big deal, especially seeing as how HG themselves are releasing and promoting them. Perhaps the M+ DVD means nothing at all, but we cannot ignore the significance of the DYRL? superposables.

Unfortunately I don't have a solid reference for this, but I believe a trademark applies only if it is tied in with your business. If you still have the business going, then the trademark still applies, having it registered just makes it a whole lot easier to prove your claim. However, if the trademark expires, and you stop pushing the brand name then you're facing an uphill battle. At least, that's how it was explained to me back in art school during a class on copyrights and trademarks and how they applied. That was years ago, though, so take this with a grain of salt.

Umm, if by that you mean that games like Pokemon and GTA are completely harmless, and that it's the parents, teachers, and kids in question who are all to blame for this incident, then sure. I agree.

I apologize. That was what I did originally mean, but yeah, it did come out muddled and unclear.

I should, though, rescind my statement about bad actors. Perhaps all of the actors in the film were really good, I know I've seen excellent actors give terrible performances before. That statement I should have thought out more.
-
Except its not true. Bingo.

You do realize you have no clue what you are talking about, right? You might want to look at the cast list before you say things like "despite the horrible cast", and David Lynch did not "walk away" from this film. You'll take much less abuse when you have your facts straight. If I'm wrong I certainly appreciate hearing so, but if there's nothing to back up the correction and I don't hear it from anyone else...well, I have to take it with a grain of salt. Here's what I've heard and what I know. I know the acting in the movie was wretched, most of it at least. There were some excellent actors in that movie, but there was also a lot of really terrible acting. Perhaps I should expand on the 'excellent job directing' comment, or at least clarify, I mean as far as the feel and mood of the film. The look. The camera angles (except for the extreme close-ups. The movie could have done without those). Maybe Lynch is to blame for the acting, not giving the actors enough input. I don't know, I wasn't hanging around the studio when the film was made. What I heard though is that Lynch was very unhappy with many of the actors' performances. That, along with several other creative dissagreements (which also lead to a couple major cast changes, at least over who played the Emperor), and other problems plaguing the production lead to the movie basically being 'shoved out the door' and into theatres. I also heard that the Dune movie was originally intended to be two movies, both based on the first book, however Lynch had had enough and everything was thrown together into a single film and left at that. If this is incorrect please let me know. As for the idea that I'll take much less abuse if I have my facts straight...well...I completely agree. I often find people agreeing with me, then again I often have sources to quote. All this is hearsay, so I welcome any solid sources for better information. I also did state that this was simply my take on it, not the entire facts of the situation.

Official Transformers Alternators and more thread.

I will be insanely dissapointed if we don't get Sunstreaker. He's one of my favourites. -
As far as the Dune movie goes, here's my take on it. Cons: Horrible, atrocious acting. Worse dialogue. Introduces concepts that not only have nothing to do with the book, but directly conflict with some of the themes and ideas in the book. Duke Leto was supposed to be incredibly charismatic, with insansely loyal and well trained followers. In that sense, he was seen as a threat to the Emperor, even though he was completely loyal to the Emperor. In the movie, however, they made it out as though his army had developed a new weapon. That's just one of the changes. Pros: The movie was abso-freaking-beautiful. The costumes, the set designs, all absolutely gorgeous. THAT is how Dune should look. Lynch also did an excellent job directing, despite the horrible actors. In fact, one of the things that made him walk away from the project was the actors. So I hear. The music was great. Too bad the soundtrack is so hard to find, and then there's several versions each with different sets of music with a lot of overlapping. I like the Dune movie, despite it's faults. Mainly because of the look and feel of the film. If the same thing could be accomplished, but with a better screenplay that was more true to the books, and good acting, then you would have a movie that would be pretty much perfect. I'd also take the Lynch movie over the Sci-Fi channel miniseries, which had equally bad acting, horrible costumes and set designs, worse special effects, forgettable music, and while the screenplay was more true to the books than the movie's, it still messed with some aspects.

Any one know any thing about this TF VCD
Radd replied to Skull 0ne's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Uh...don't take everything you hear in an eBay description to heart. This looks wholly unofficial. Probably something akin to anime music videos. Who knows if this guy even has the rights to all of the videos he's selling? Might have just nabbed them off of the net, burned them to CD, and put them up for auction. It all sounds kinda sketchy to me.
