I would like to see this, even if it's not as good. I just wouldn't set it aside and not give it a try when I so loved Excel Saga. Bobo-bo Bo-bobobo is most excellent. I need to get ahold of more of that.

The average american animator right now is makeing approximately $0 an hour, $0 a month, for a whopping total of $0 a year! More and more I'm becoming a believer in laws that protect domestic jobs from being farmed out to foreign labor.

What Gundam Wing Character Are You?
Radd replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh? I got Char, too! -
That's actually what I was thinking of when I saw the thread title.

Wishful thinking for a Megatron like this...
Radd replied to soze's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I think most of the War Within robot designs are more than a little overdone. They lack class. I'd rather a nicely done up version of the G2 Tank Megatron, which more closely resembled G1 megs, but with a much different colour scheme. -
I disagree, I mean...well...look at them. The pics up at the top are definitely reminiscent of the VF-1 FAST packs. They are squared, sharp edges, bulky. The picks you show have FAST packs that are rounded, low-profile, have intake vents, and just generally look very different.

I think the whole thing would have been much better if they'd distanced the story pacing from DYRL? a lot more. I mean, it's like they took DYRL?, slightly changed the situation, and replaced the cast. I've had friends who had seen Macross II first, then had that reaction while watching DYRL? for the first time, and I've had friends that had seen DYRL? first and had that reaction upon seeing Macross II for the first time.

My step dad has argued that the DEath Star from Return of the Jedi was the battle damaged Death Star from the original movie with a similar argument. Speaking as a one-time animation student, there is no reason to draw an entire object if you're only going to film part of it. Still, you do want to draw outside the bounds of the shot a little bit because you never know exactly how much of it will wind up in the final shot until you're sitting there fiddling with the camera yourself.

Actually, it's the other thread that's in the wrong forum. For some reason all Toynami toys get chucked in there, even if they are SDF Macross toys. Since these are DYRL? toys, they should be in this forum. But go read that other thread, this topic's been discussed to death there. I'm sure it will answer...well, no. Let me just sum it up. There are no answers yet, just speculation. However at AnimeExpo the HG gang says they have an announcement to make that deals with them being able to market these toys. For us Macross fans it could be good news or bad news, we simply do not know yet. All is quiet on the Big West side, so, yeah. Speculation abounds.

Help - I need the original characters name
Radd replied to Southcross's topic in Movies and TV Series
Though still a jerk, threatening, and a control freak (and an alcoholic to boot), I thought his last appearance in the SDF Macross tv series was much more ...well, cool, than his last appearance in Robotech. In Robotech, he's just a jerk till the end and that's that, while in SDF he actually says some meaningful things before wandering off into the world. -
Wait, does that mean we're not getting Hikaru's flying bike in 1/48th scale? Damn! Seriously, though. I agree about the scale thing. I'm big on scale. I wish Yamato would pick a scale and make all their Valks in that scale. Preferably in 1/60, though I would like a few of my favourite Valkyrie designs in 1/48th to pose next to my VF-1 1/48ths. The MPCs don't seem like bad toys, but they're not worth Toynami's asking price. For 80 bucks I could import a Yamato 1/60 with FAST packs. For $120 (the price of an MPC + Super armour) plus shipping and about 5 bucks more I could nab another 1/48th sans armour, but still be happier with what I got. Also, the 1/48ths are not as fragile as I've seen people make them out to be. I've had mine since they came out, transform them all the time, and no broken parts yet. I mean, it's not as sturdy as a Bandai, but what is? Oh, and the removable legs on the 1/60s aren't that bad. It's still not like those model kits where you have to replace the entire fuselage, take the arms and legs off, and reattach them. I do think the 1/60s would have been better with swing bars, at least for battroid. The huge hips are just as much of an eyesore.

I am not a fan of Macross II. It was great when it was the only new Macross available, and I hadn't yet seen 'DYRL?'. But once I saw 'DYRL?' all I could think of was, "Wow, they didn't seem very keen on writing new material when they decided to make Macross II." Also, it has some gaping continuity problems even if it was supposed to be a sequel to the original movie. I did like the character designs, at least the artwork for them, not to keen on how the animators ended up drawing them much of the time. The music is so-so. The story, and especially the character developement, were just too rushed for most of the OVA, and the animation quality really drops towards the end.

I'm fairly certain that HG made only the tv series and the Battlecry videogame canon, and the new comics. They completely wiped Sentinels from their continuity and I presume the Antarctic Press comics as well. This should really be in 'Other Anime and Sci-fi' because it's Robotech and not Macross.

Harmony Gold & Toynami releasing DYRL? Toys
Radd replied to Duke Togo's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
YOU! You with the thread! Ok, nice and easy not, put the thread down. That's right. Put it down, and nobody has to get hurt. Just put it down and back away, nice and slow, until there's something worth adding to it. -
All of my Armada Transformers. I rarely regret a purchase, but these...gah...I didn't buy any more Transformers for an entire year, until the Alternators came out. Other than those, the rest of my toys are Valkyries. No dissapointments there, yet!
-
I think you need to swap parts to transform the Valkyries. That's all I know about them.
-
I'll probably pick one up, dunno though. I'd rather pay more and get a much better toy. I mean, c'mon, this is nearly 1/60 price for a toy that has even worse hips, and lacks any die-cast. Plus, as I thought with the 1/60s, I still believe if you're going to have huge, ugly hips like that, you might as well go with swing bars that don't look any worse yet appease perfect transformation fans like myself. I do hope they release a larger scale version. I'd save up in anticipation of a 1/48th scale perfect transformation version. Oh, and as always, thanks Graham!

The actual mecha designs from M7 are filled with Kawamori's trademark greatness, just look at the line art of any of the Macross 7 versions of the VF-19 next to the line art of the YF-19. There's very little difference, and none of that is any sort of dumbing down or simplifying. However, the animation quality of M7 is far below that of Macross Plus, and the designs in the animation itself were simplified and slightly more cartoony looking (rounded and bubbly). I also did not care for the Macross Plus FAST packs for the reasons stated in my previous post. They just didn't add much to the fighters.

Didn't Harmong Gold publicly state that they would attempt to block Macross Zero if someone tried to bring it over into "their" territory? I thought I read that in either one of the M0 threads, or in the big old Legal Debate thread. There was a rumour that Pioneer/Geneon was considering bringing over Macross Zero, but there has been nothing definite. I think it will be a more likley possibility once the entire OVA is out in Japan.

Pasford's notes prove it, the Protoculture has ties to the Illuminati! Seriously, though. Evangelion does not have any sort of trademark on the religions of the world, and not everything seen in Evangelion is found soley in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Like wolfx said, it's probably just random mythological references to make Pasford's notes look all nifty and mystical.

Crest/Banner of Stars and it's sequels Battleflag of the Stars I and II are probably the closest anime I can think of, but I tend to think of them as LotGH-lite. Excellent shows, don't get me wrong. LotGH just has a more epic feel to it, at least in my opinion. LotGH seems to have many more key characters, as well.

Yamato has actually decided not to releas the !/60 Monsters to the public at large. Instead they are moving ahead with a much more ambitious plan. A small army of 1/60 Monsters is being constructed in China at this moment. They are self-replicating machines, with live weaponry. These will be used in 2005 to begin contruction of the first of dozens of 1/1 scale fully functional Monsters. Yamato will keep one for each member of their staff, and distribute the remainders to a "chosen few". After Yamato completes their final project, a 1/1 scale SDF Macross, they will leave us for the stars, and the chosen few who recieved their own 1/1 scale Monsters will be left behind as the gaurdians of the Earth, until the appointed time when Yamato will return to help fight Unicron. At least, that's the rumour I heard from the homeless man outside my apartment yesterday afternoon. He seems honest to me.

I've always wondered about those. I love the VF-1 FAST packs, and no FAST packs since have had quite as much punch to them. The VF-11 armour from Macross Plus was the closest, though that armour was still to thin on the legs, and lacked arm armour altogether. I love the big, bulky stuff that just oozes the appearance of additional power. The Macross7 FAST packs were weak. They looked silly and didn't make the mecha look anymore impressive. I think the whole movement towards sleeker, more ergonimic designs is to blame. I like the look of these in fighter mode (though they still look a bit on the thin side), but I wonder just how practical they are? Would they be able to fold up backpack-like, such as the VF-1 FAST packs boosters?

Expo, eh? I'll hold off then, if a legit package is on the way, I might as well save my money. Luckily my girlfriend is almost as big a fan of the series as I am, so we can split the cost of the series.

People tend to forget, Harmony Gold has the rights to the SDF Macross TV series. This has never been in any doubt. They long ago granted Toynami a license to that, as was stated, with the SDF Macross Superposables. This doesn't even hint at any explanation for the 'DYRL?' toys, as that is a deperate license.
