Next episode should be broadcast in about 5 hours. Few hours more till the first raws. Epic orchestral version of the Mikuru opening:
-
Ah yes, reaction weapons would explain the disregard for the threat of other Zentran fleets. The emphasis on the shot by the Battle 7 was a bit odd in that regard. I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing concerning Zentran tech. The Zentradi that are not part of the UN forces do not seem to progress technology wise as far as I can tell. Cloe's forces in 2046 seemed to use the same equipment as the Zentradi/Meltradi from the SW1 war.

That's one of the mysteries of Frontier. There is this whole sempai/sister dynamic between Sheryl and Ranka. But they don't have an established shared past unlike the similar Roy/Hikaru relationship. There is still the possibility of them having met at a younger age with Ranshe Lee and Mao Nome worked together, but that has never been touched upon by the writers.

Still, in fleet of the strongest women: M7 gets the order to destroy Chloe's Meltran fleet (of 60.000 ships) with the Battle 7. If a single macross vessel can take out such a large force then the cannon desing has improved a lot since SDFM. A Macross vessel would then more likely carry the firepower of the Grand Cannon. Haven't seen any similar weapon in the Zentradi arsenal (except the main cannon of Bodolza's ship in DYRL). I would guess that human technology goes beyond Zentran levels after SW1. Zentran tech is reliable but development has been stagnant since the PC days. So that could work not only for weapons but propulsion as well. Story wise it would deal with the issue of other Zentran fleets, humanity must have encountered others by the time of Frontier. With increased weapon technology those fleets would be much less of a threat. Come to think of it, Global warns in the final episode of of SDFM that when earth reaches the level of military power needed to defend against a hostile Zentran or Supervision army fleet earth might make the same mistakes like the PC. And voila in Frontier, human forces turn out to be the agressors against the Varija and are almost enslaved by Grace, humanities own creation. Glovals prediction holds, the circle is complete.

One additional complication with the fold concept as seen in Macross is that we do not know if the ships take the most direct route through super dimensional space (assuming a kind of hyperspace like thing). We would need time and distance covered in that space and distance covered and time passed in real space to make any inferences.

All the airmail goes trough Amsterdam. EMS was fine in terms of speed till 2006 when TNT completed it's takeover of the dutch mail. After that things went slower and slower. It is not just EMS, the whole mail service has been in decline since then. -
Very interesting. I guess this social development is occuring worldwide (to a certain extent) with the spread of broadband internet and digital television. Mass media getting replaced by personalized media, with that change society gets segregated by interests and the collective memory disappears. Maybe the medium film is a bit more resilient to this change due to the limited number of productions?

Thoughts on the SDFM aftermath episodes

There isn't much to see. In the alien city afer their kiss, the scene fades to black. Then in the early morning (or during the night) when the Macross shows up you see them both walk out of the house, Misa tugging back her clothes. Visual trope for them having slept together. -
The itano missile circus and Kakazaki tribute just made this episode a winner.

That is a nice analogy for the Hikaru is dense interpretation. I am not completly convinced that he doesn't notice it, but just outright ignores it as he is only interested in Minmay in that point. I have been in the situation where when I was in love with a girl, I just replused the attentions of another girl. Who may have been a nicer person, but at the time I could not really care. In hindsight it is always easier -

heh, I fully agree here. The only two guys who dared to challenge Misa's authority are Roy and Hikaru. Roy is spoken for so that leaves Hikaru. I guess she falls for guys who are not afraid of her. Global is more like misa surogate mother (scary thought). There is a word play in my language where, by changing a consonant, the word spouse changes to sparing-partner. We use it to define certain types of relationships, which seems very fitting here. I think there was an episode where Global (altough I am fearing RT brainwashing here) was reminising about the old days where Misa's father served with Global and disregarded orders. So that would definitly support the he's -just-like-daddy theory -

Even if they slept together during that night it is not really relevant for the three way dialog the day after. Basically at that point Hikaru changes his heart, or announces it. I'm pretty convinced it's a decision on the spot based on what Minmay and Misa both said. -

Hikaru is an very interesting male lead character. An idealist, more introvert and thoughtfull then most mecha shows lead males. I would disagree with the notion he is dense or stupid but he does apear to be singular in focus, absent minded and somewhat clumsy. After episode 27 Misa has become a close friend but there is no real romance yet. Misa's attentions are mainly ignored or even found irritating by Hikaru regardless of the encouragments by mutual friends. Seeing Minmay in the aftermath and her breakup with Kaifun actually starts of mutual romantic feelings for both of them. However Minmay loses Hikaru when she tells him that to be together they both have to give up the work that defines them. Personally I think the moment Hikaru's heart changes is when Misa tells him that she is taking command of the Megaroad, in an attempt to spread culture and protect humanity. This shows that she is a kindred spirit and has a similar motivation to be in the military to protect people, just like him. Followed by a delacration of love. I'm sure that irrisistable to a personality like Hikaru's. Misa could have won him over much earlier but she went at it the wrong way. She tried to show her affection to Hikaru by being helpfull around his place and showering him with attention. Misa did not learn the lesson Claudia taught her in "Rainy night" till the last episode. Roy made the same mistake trying to win Claudia over with presents. He failed untill he showed her his true motivations and what makes him tick on the rainy night before a test flight. There are some hints the writers put in to show Hikaru is pretty indifferent in regard to social graces, like him forgetting to offer Misa a drink when he is attention was on the picture of her and Riber. His lack of politeness in adressing superior officers etc. -

Quite often I end up using HLJ as they offer SAL small pac, which works out cheapest for me and has lowest chance of getting caught by customs for VAT (about 1 in 10). It's also the fastest method, delivery usually within 10 days of shipping. EMS and SAL parcel have track and trace, the thugs at the Dutch mail(TNT) add a 35 USD surcharge for those shipments, always get VAT added and it takes up to 3 weeks to deliver. EMS for me is slow and expensive. It annoys the hell out of me seeing those shipments arive in Amsterdam 3 days after shipping and then taking 3 weeks to complete the last 100 km of the trip. -
Quality of the RAWs depends on which broadcast is used as source material. The early ones are from UHF channels. Afaik the fansubbers who are serious about quality wait till the Tokyo broacasts come avaiable. Sofar Yuki has the highest visual quality subs of Haruhi I have seen. This group has subbed all the reruns aswell and is reasonably fast. About a week after broadcast.

There seems to be a wiki page on Japanese sound symbolism. It mention the use of sounds for objects that don't make sounds originally like kira. Sound symbolism

Unfortunatly even if the RLAM gets made and is succesfull there is no guarantee HG will release it's stranglehold on Macross.
-
Correct, but for different reasons. No country that can build fighters themselves would consider buying foreign, out of fear of hurting the domestic industry and job losses. The quality of the planes involved is completely secondary to the political process.

Not to impressed with the Spectacular Spiderman, the art style is just not my thing. Most superhero animated series don't work for me. I like Batman: The Animated Series and Pryde of the X-men but that is pretty much it. Also there was Filmation with Flash Gordon. Really like the character designs of that series. Same with Defenders of the Earth.

The Raws for ep12 Endless Eight are up. Now the waiting game starts for a quality sub.

Had a chance to see Eva 1.0 in the cinema today. Great experience on the big screen. Such a shame it was hardly advertised. There were only 3 other people, on premiere night.

That makes me think of the scene in Neon Genesis where Shinji complains to his friends about Misato's domestic habbits. His friends tell him off. They interpret Misato showing her true self to Shinji as accepting him as family. I think the same goes for Minmay. She has a public face and a private one. Hikaru gets to see the real Minmay but he doesn't distinguish between the two of them and ends up getting hurt by her public statements. Maybe it's also a bit of pride on his side that he can't accept being the private friend but also wants to make claim her for the world to see. What convinced me that she blatently loves him (which is not the same as accepting him as a boyfriend) is that she drops her work and rushes to the hospital when Focker tells her that he is hurt. Maybe I'm misreading Japanese culture there but given the strict work ethos you just don't do that for any friend. -

Yes, it's Cathy who said that she liked Leon's ambition at first. The dialog: C: He is ambitious. I used to think this was his strong point but... O: he is the opposite of some one you know? O: Sorry I said to much C: Indeed! C: Unlike a certain person who is only good at flying and only lives for his sister, right? Yea, my point didn't really come out well there. What I meant was: Cathy looks so much like Misa therefor she cannot have a Misa type personality because of the Frontier masquerade theme. Agreed, her world was changing and she needed a friend, not a lover. SDFM's Minmay isn't the dense RT version. She knows Hikaru likes her but doesn't want to risk their friendship I'm sure. That partly why the aftermath ( to get back on topic) is so interesting. Minmay has been around and her dream has now become a normal job. She now looks for a partner in Hikaru but he has already drifted to far away.
