Yes (and he's not an announcer, he's the director of "Shao Pai Long"). He also reprises the role on the "Miss DJ" album. And, uh, this should probably be in the newbie thread, so don't be surprised if it's moved.

That said, Danth has a point that not liking them doesn't necessarily mean he's nostalgic and old. Maybe he simply doesn't like them. Likewise, not liking them doesn't necessarily mean that they suck.

Ah. Very cool! Best of luck!

Well, it's been many years since I last read the book, but IIRC, yeah...the last chapter set up the following book, and (more importantly) made Ender face the atrocity he'd committed, and also gave him a way to atone for it. As such, it's probably the most important chapter in the book.

I dunno man, I think anything that has giant transforming robots is automatically disqualified as "believable fiction with possibility." Especially if it's got giant humanoid aliens (who in real life, would be unable to stand without their skeletons collapsing), daring mid-air Minmay rescues, and outer-space tuna fishing. Not to mention a host of other problems. I love Macross dearly, but it's not hard SF by any stretch.

Yeah, but there's reasonable discussion, and there's... how shall I put it... profitless discussion. I want more of the former, less of the latter. EDITED for "phrasing issues."
-
It's a beaut!

Who cares? It got released twice in the west, both times with excellent subtitles. But again, cathartic for who? For the creators (who probably couldn't care less)? Or for the Japanese audience (which probably doesn't know anything about it)? Or the American audience (which is probably too small to gear an entire Macross series towards)?
-
Who are you talking to? Us, or Big West? If it's the former, why bother? If it's the latter, are you going to pay them to create your remake? If not, again, why bother?

Nonsense! Frontier, for example, had no nudity. Whereas the original SDFM showed Minmay's butt. And DYRL had full-frontal. Watch L-Gaim, and then tell me that modern anime has more "soft porn tease"...

Yes. Newtype Ace started after Macross Ace ended.

Most people who become authors (as opposed to, y'know, movie stars) do so because they've got talent but are not good looking. Give ugly people a chance, man!

He's wearing Focker's hand-me-downs, since he brought no clothes of his own.

Probably. And also, lots of pretty boys wearing those pretty outfits.

Speaking frankly, I guess my big problem with this thread is that everyone who wants a remake is envisioning that remake to look like the "perfect Macross" that they have in their head...which, ultimately, isn't what would be produced. It's the same as RT fans thinking that The Sentinels would be great, "as long as they got rid of the silly stuff, like Care Bears and giant slugs and Bucket-head Breetai and a five-year-fold." Ain't gonna happen. If the original SDFM gets a remake, it's gonna look more like Frontier. Is that what y'all want?

Sorry, I know this is off-topic, but can we at least compare The Island to Parts: The Clonus Horror? However, the trailer made it look like it was going to be Logan's Run.

...or we could just quote Tenjin...

Boring nitpicks...like, for example, detailing why the VF-2SS is so much better than the VF-1S...? Anyway, yeah, back on topic: to put it bluntly, I think everyone has certain "problems" with Macross "as-is," and would love to "fix" some sections. But the sections you want to fix might be the very parts that someone else adores, so I think it's best to leave it alone. (Unless, of course, we're talking about the knife fight. EVERYBODY hates that.)

That's...that's a damn good point.

True, but...FLOATING ROCKS are apparently a deal-breaker.

Can you tell that I was a lit major? As long as the story is compelling, the science makes no difference to me. Hence why I can still enjoy E.E. "Doc" Smith's "inertialess drive."
