I forgot about this in-joke in Flashback 20112
Gubaba replied to Vifam7's topic in Movies and TV Series
Now THAT's funny! I'm just shocked that someone at Big West had a copy of the script...I thought it wasn't officially released until the '90s... -
Regults can be destroyed completely with one blast of a gunpod, unless you're in a VF-1D, and then it will take all your ammo just to knock the thing over.

"Norm" and "Nome" are the same in katakana...it all depends on who's transliterating. And, um, it's "Ichijo," not "Ichigo." "Ichigo" means "strawberry," which would be a pretty lame moniker for Skull Leader... I have to admit I'm getting déja vu here...from back when everyone here was sure that Edgar's last name meant that Claudia would HAVE to show up in Mac0... My prediction? When Sara and Shin were whisked away at the end of Zero, they went through a time warp to 2058 that also somehow managed to fuse them together into a single hermaphroditic being...who promptly named him/herself "Sheryl" and started singing. Back on topic, I'm dying to know what happened to that all-girl band in 7 whose singer wore a witch hat. Maybe they're also now has-beens being managed by Kaifun, who also has a 75-year-old Jamis Melan in his stable of "talent."

I might get the VF-1S shirt if they're still selling it at Animate in Ikebukuro when I go back this summer...

Before Christmas 1984, the little, flimsy "Parade" magazine that came with the Sunday edition of the L.A. Times had a story on Japanese robot toys, helpfully noting what anime each came from, and one of the showcases of the article was Hikaru's VF-1J. I devoured that article over and over again, so when Robotech debuted, I recognized the Valks right away. Later, I found a model shop near my house that carried the old Imai / Arii kits, and they suddenly got a bunch in that had the "MACROSS '84 SUMMER" seal on them...and that's when my love of Robotech became merely a gateway drug into the far headier world of import model kits and nth generation VHS copies with no subs... Nope, they never completed it. They got out eight Macross tapes and seven each for Southern Cross and Mospeada. I remember going to Anime Expo in...'93? '94? and the guy from Streamline said the next volumes would be out "in a few weeks." Lying jerk.

Here's my own personal translation of Tenshi no Engoku...unfortunately, I don't have the romaji handy. Sorry. Twilight glistens, floating down to my window, I breathe in the twinkling wind When I look at the sky. Even my heart, dyed blue by sadness, I will color again with an angel’s paints, Anyway I like. When we met, I only longed for the heavens, And the love that always protected me, I didn’t notice it. For just a short time, if I say farewell to you, I love you, Would I end up in tears? If I look away, everything will end up shattered. Someday, the light of eternity will lure me away. Even my heart, dyed blue by sadness, I will color again with an angel’s paints, Anyway I like.

What's the deal with the power serges in MacII?
Gubaba replied to The6ftTallAZN's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's the rage of the Macross itself at having to appear in such a lame series. -
If you didn't like "No Limit" or "Right Now," you definitely won't like "Gems," since it's mostly just tracks from both of them, with only one new song. However, she's got an actual new album coming out very soon. Next week, I think...

I heartily second that. "Unspeakable pain inside..."

Well, stop it! We need more BLIND UNQUESTIONING OBEDIENCE, not skepticism!

Some different wings http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/zero/vf-0a.htm Sigh...my bad. I got confused since I was sure that the A and the D were the same, based on the official Bandai Visual site. So I went back to check, and lo! the 0A isn't even shown! *kicks faulty memory* Of course, they wouldn't have come out the 0B if they didn't have a 0D planned down the line...Still, I'm a die-hard Hasegawa apologist, and even I'm getting a little frustrated here...

I'm seriously beginning to doubt that any SDF Macross characters will show up...on the website, there's only one "COMING SOON" left in the character list, but I think Dr. Hasford should probably fit in there...maybe there'll be some kind of brief cameo, but I wouldn't bet on it. I also wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see the ASS-1. The whole series has felt less like a prologue to the original series and more like a side story...just like all the other Macross sequels.

Macross 20th Aniiversary Premium Collection DVD
Gubaba replied to JLYC's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's a boot...I don't have a regionless player, and I think the original R2 version was long gone by the time I finally picked it up a year or so ago. It also has hysterically bad subtitles with things like "Chando Blue fights Pink Fighters Meltran" or some such. -
It's the VF-0S with the VF-0B head. Another farting delay tactic to make drooling fans drool more more the VF-0D. fart you, Hasegawa. I'm not buying another Macross kit until the VF-0D comes out. Or the VF-11. Who's with me? Doesn't the 0A have different wings from the S? If they've made the 0A wings, a 0D will be coming soon enough. I mean, I want a VF-11, too (and a VF-4, and a VF-1 gerwalk, and a VF-17...), but a VF-0A is also pretty good...
-
Well...I guess at the very least, that blows the idea that had been floating around that the last volume would be forty minutes or more...somehow, they've gotta wrap up the story in thirty-four minutes...

Macross 20th Aniiversary Premium Collection DVD
Gubaba replied to JLYC's topic in Movies and TV Series
No, unfortunately, it doesn't have "Macross: A Future Chronicle" on it... *Doom laden voice: "2010 - Lynn Minmay Plan put into operation!"* Heh. Strangely, my copy of the 20th Anniversary disc doesn't have the toy commercials...at least, not anywhere that I've been able to locate on the menu. Playing the whole thing through doesn't make 'em appear, either. Anybody know what gives? -
$77...and that's BEFORE paint, glue, and all that... Plus, the VF-1D seems pretty scarce these days. I wish they wouldn't make their limited editions so...limited. I completely missed the F-14 and the Low Vis Valk.

Wow...how much do we have to donate?

Has the Fire Bomber band ever play U.S. convention
Gubaba replied to zeus the zentran's topic in Movies and TV Series
It may be unfair to Hummingbird, but let's face it...that live performance was terrible. I'm not sure what was worst...the guitar riffs being taken over by a cheesy synth, the pelvic thrusts during the guitar solo, or Tomo Sakurai looking about as sexy as warm taffy. Now if they had had Basara and Mylene's singing VAs doing the show, with a REAL band, that would've been a lot more fun... -
But isn't that just the normal, original version? Yeah, except the first long instrumental break is snipped out. I think it may have been the single version, but I'm not sure.
-
I don't know if this counts, but there's also the short version that's on the 2002 Song Collection.

According to the Macross Compendium, the events on Mayan were kept secret for at least forty years.

I thought they only discontinued the first three non-FAST Valkyries. The Super and Strike Valks are still being produced. I'm not too worried about it. These will come around again eventually. I'm more worried about not ever getting a VF-11, or VF-0D According to the Hasegawa website, they've stopped production on the Super and Strike Valks as well as the regular ones...so get 'em while you can. And I think we can pretty much bet on a VF-0D...they have the head and the cockpit in the VF-0B, they only need to make the wings. However, I agree with you on the VF-11...I REALLY want one of those... EDIT: Whoa...you're right...it doesn't come with a J head...okay, I take back what I said, that's frickin' annoying. Worse than the VF-1S Strike Battroid being the only place to get Hikaru type VF-1A Super Battroid decals, and just as bad as the VF-1D being a limited edition...
-
Well...they aren't really giving us anything new, but they DID discontinue the original Super and Strike Valks, so they're letting the kit remain available, just in a different package. Consider it a consolodation (selling one kit instead of two) rather than a new product. I wish they'd do the same with the original non-FAST Pack Valks...I'm a-gonna miss those when they're gone...

Bah, she was a hottie then, too. I have this old Macross book that I got in '86 or thereabouts that has a lot of rough designs for the show, and A LOT of photos of Mari. I think the book came out in '83, and she says in it that she just turned twenty. At any rate, I fell for her in a big way because of that book. Of course, I was also a hormonal teenager back then, so I was falling hard for almost anyone in a skirt and/or tight jeans... EDIT: I mentioned this in a nother thread, but I might as well say it here, as well: Mari's going to be performing again at Genghis Cohen in Hollywood on August 13.
