Macross Frontier Episode 8 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*

My only real disappointment was that, on Macross Frontier, towels appear to be plentiful and readily available. (And yes, you have my permission to turn that into an H2G2 reference, if you'd like.) -

And we know Sheryl plays guitar HOW...? Now, if they have a VF-25kai that's controlled by a whip, then she'll TOTALLY be an ace... EDIT: (Really, I'm just annoyed that no one but me appears to have noticed that Ranka already knows Brera...or at least, no one thought it worth talking about...) -
I'm still waiting for remakes of Gymkata and Lambada: The Forbidden Dance. And I hope the remake of Cloverfield will be out by August.

Not that I've ever gone OT before, but... Can someone please explain why we're talking about how the Fire Valkyrie is controlled...? -
I think you misunderstand...I was merely saying that if there were no romanization, we would call it "Triangular" because...well...it's a real word. I shall continue to call it "Triangler," though, because, well... Yoko said it. I believe it. That settles it.

The idea of humans vs. giants goes back WAAAAAAY before 1968...earliest known would probably be Sumerian mythology... Either that, or Studio Nue managed to build a workable time machine, go forward in time, and see "Honey, I Blew Up the Baby," and came back and worked it into their show. The only hole I can find in that theory is that if they had gone into the future, they would've known never to let Harmony Gold have anything to do with Macross...
-
Ah, now I understand. And, if you look at the katakana, "Triangular" would make sense as the title. If the Divine Ms. YK hadn't decided to go all weird on us* with the romanization, I'm sure that's what we'd all be calling it. *not to imply, of course, that Ms. YK is usually anything BUT weird...

Well, I thought it was cool that they decided to make an (almost) all-comedy episode...and I think the animation in this one is better than it looks. 1. RANKA KNOWS BRERA ALREADY!!! *wonders how this will play out* 2. I join a few others in thinking that the Carbunkle panty thief is perhaps more sinister than it appears. 3. I love how Luca gives all of his mecha Biblical names... 4. BEST. EYECATCH. EVER! 5. The art may have looked weird in this one, but there ain't nothin' wrong with the shower scene... 6. And ニンジーン is loved by me yeah! Not the best of episodes overall, but hey...the stated themes of the series were "battle" and "school life," so we should've seen one like this coming. For all the things "Macross High" COULD'VE been, we're pretty lucky to have it be this, I think. -
What do the Japanese have against octopi?
Gubaba replied to Roger's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's a lost cause, legato. There are legions of Godless killing machines out there ready to rip their faces off and eat them, and these guys want to talk about...an anime. -
I always thought of riding ON mecha (as opposed to IN it) being kind of a '90s Bt'X/Escaflowne thing... That said, robot horses just remind me of Baron Karza...

Huh? Who said anything about Wikipedia...?

Thanks. Commencing download... -
Macross Rapeman...? Hmmm...maybe I don't need to read it... But that actually ties into my question for Plus...did Guld rape Myung? Does the novel say? And how were the SDF novels? I glanced throught the one that I got, and seemed more like a synopsis of the show than a full, developed novel...

Nope, it's "Triangler." http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/649/1iimu1.png

This sucks...since I've been working 9 to 5 on Thursdays, usually I have a plethora of Frontier choices to download when I get home. This week...there are two. And one of them's an flv, so it doesn't count. How's the avi? Better than last week's first avi version...? -
You could count me out. I've given up on summer Hollywood blockbusters (except Indiana Jones...I'm definitely going to see that). I prefer watching movies that assume I have at least a partially functioning brain.
-
Just wait two weeks, and the OST will be all over the internets... I having a hard time picking a favorite, too...so I guess I'm gonna have to go for the one that nobody's picked yet: The SMS Shotai Song. "Su-piido, Mirakaru! Supeishiiiiiiii!"

That's IT! Thanks! I remember thinking when I was a kid that the Cold Squad armor looked pretty cool...
-
First off, I'm sorry for any hurt feelings or blood-pressure risings I may have caused. I meant no harm. Really. I'll tread more gingerly now. Well...I always thought it was odd that most of the merchadizing was focussed on the armor...I remember getting a booklet with one of the old kits that showed every branch of the Sourthern Cross army, with three suits of armor (separated by rank) for each branch*. Sure, the armor was neat-looking, but who watches a robot show and says, "Damn! Those uniforms are awesome! I want a toy of THAT!"? Was the merchandizing effort simply an experiment that failed? Or was a Spartas toy too difficult to engineer? Either way, I think the blame lies with Arii rather than Tatsunoko. EDIT: *I just looked up. Yep, those were indeed some of the pics from the old booklet. I wonder if anyone has a scan of the whole thing...Mine might still be lying around in a box in my Dad's garage...

Yeah, I found one of the SDF TV novelizations in good ol' Nakano for ¥110 (unfortunately, it was the middle book) last December, so I have high hopes for my next visit. And I didn't even realize there was a Mac Plus novelization until I saw in last month on the Compendium...I sure hope there wasn't an unreleased second volume...the main reason I wanted to read it was for some clarification on epsiode 4... Oh well, I guess it's back to my first plan of kidnapping Keiko Nobumoto and peppering her with Plus (and Cowboy Bebop) questions...
-
Well, there's the trilogy of Japanese novels (plus one for DYRL) that are in need of translating... And for the question posed by the first post, my feeling is that if they didn't retcon the crash of the ASS-1 for Macross Zero, then clearly the Hory Froating Head will not change his Hory Froating Mind about this. Fine by me...1999 was a pretty sucky year for me; an alien space ship just adds that little sparkle of awesomeness it so desperately needed.
-
I think that was just a Space Battleship Yamato reference...
-
Dunno if I want to undertake it yet...how big is the print? If they're that big, I might as well wait until I get back to Tokyo in August, and just pick them up for myself...glad to hear they're not too rare. (What I'd REALLY like to get my hands on is the mac Plus novelization...but I think it'll be a while before I could do it justice...) But if you find them before that, please let me know. Thanks!

I met Reba West once. She was nice. It made for a good story, too. MY REBA WEST MEETING ADVENTURE CAN BE FOUND HERE: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=9275

Yeah...Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Gall Force, Iczer-1, and Gunm (or however you spell it) were all abysmal failures, weren't they? EDIT: Not to mention, outside the world of anime, The Ring. Jeez, THERE'S a movie that sank without a trace...
