  1. ORE NO UTA O KIKE!! Saa, hajimaruze Saturday Night! Choushi wa dou dai? Let's stand up! Bea-to o kanjiru kai?
  2. I would imagine it would be easier just to paint any old VF-1A in Skull 011 colors rather than get the offcial movie prop, but you never know... I hope they have some kind of conversation about it at some point... Student A: What kind of fighter IS that? Student B: Some old plane from some movie that my dad likes...it was on TV the other night and he tried to get me to watch it, but it was too boring. And racist, too: the Zentradi were the bad guys! That's SO '20s!
  3. Have you been reading the episode discussion threads? We've covered the ground on Brera pretty thoroughly (or at least, as thoroughly as we can for a character who's had about three scenes and one line of dialogue...)
  4. I think I agree with you...and I would assume that the only reason planetary bases are given any creedence at all is due to sentimentality (or, perhaps, fear) on the part on the colonists. I would imagine that if a human-settled planet got fried by a Zentradi Fleet, NUNS would probably abandon the idea altogether. (Wonder why that hasn't happened by 2059...or maybe it has, and we just haven't heard about it...)
  5. ...unless Space 1999 ever magically comes true. It seems to me that there's a fallacy in this argument, which is that the emigration fleets stop permenantly at the planets they find, whereas it seems more likely that the stay long enough to get a settlement started, and then go off again. Gubaba's planet was certainly habitable, but the 7 fleet didn't stop there...their goal was the Galactic Center, which would probably have no planets able to sustain life (or exist for very long). Since it was a "long-range colonization fleet," what's the point of heading to an area unable to be colonized, unless you're seeding planets along the way? EDIT: Whoops, left out my main point...which is that the Macross universe would then have planetary bases AND semi-permanant colony ships. The best of both worlds, if you will.
  6. Hell, back in the day, I got a BUNCH of Macross, Dorvack, and Orguss models for $2.99 each at Karl's Toys...wish I hadn't tried to build all of them...
  7. It's the same in Japan. Here's one article of many which I could produce: http://wiki.theppn.org/Kago_Ai_Smoking_Scandal (The punishment seemed awfully strict, though...could you imagine Lindsey Lohan's management putting her under "house arrest"...?)
  8. With the amount of people trying to get copyrighted or against-the-rules stuff posted on youtube, the floodgates would HAVE to be effective, or else the site would've been run into the ground by even more lawsuits... But back on-topic...I love how, with each episode that airs, the track listing for the album makes more and more sense...
  9. Last I checked, it was still on their "Projects" list. It does seem to take them a while, but the results are good, so I'm happy to wait. In a year, will it matter than Shinsen took a few weeks with a particular episode? Or will it matter more than we have a good quality fansub sitting on our hard drive instead of a botched rush job? (And yes, I realize that those are not the only two options, and there are infinite shades of gray between the two extremes, but I'm trying to make a rhetorical point...)
  10. Oh, I tried to upload some Puffy videos to youtube a few years ago...I didn't use the actual title or the name "Puffy" anywhere, but they were blocked immediately upon uploading. I don't know how they knew, but I guess that seeeming omnipotence is what makes it so effective...
  11. I remember when it first came out, and the LA Times had an article which said, "But the question everyone's asking is: how are the bugs???" and I thought, "No, I want to know how the powered suits are!" Of course, they were non-existant in the movie... But I think the big problem with doing a straight adaptation is that the novel actually had IDEAS in it...and that appears to be something no Hollywood movie can afford to have.
  12. Still...I'd be willing to bet money that they've met before. And, uh...I wonder how Brera got on the Frontier in the first place...?
  13. It's no longer a month...it's now about a week and a half! WOO-HOO!
  14. But if she didn't know him, wouldn't she have said, "Anata wa?" Even with a question mark, just "Anata?" makes it sound like they've met before. HUH? How do you figure?
  15. I understand... Not many girls can pull off the "carrot look," but Ranka is one of the few. Now if we could only get Nanase into a tomato costume...
  16. If that were the case, she wouldn't have said, "It's you..." when she saw him. Sorry, I must have missed that...I thought that I'd read all the posts, but I guess I accidentally skipped a few...
  17. I think the "Plot-Summary" style of review served a useful and valid purpose back when anime was generally hard to come by, and was almost always raw in the event that you actually lucked out and found a copy. These days, a link to rapidshare is much more useful. But some still cling to old ways of doing things...which is, I guess, fine. If you're really funny, or can add some brilliant analysis, it can skill be great. Otherwise, don't bother. Me, I'd LIKE to have a blog or podcast or something, but I'm not funny or smart enough to scintillate on demand, nor am I fast enough with the news to break stories (at least, not consistently. I did find the Macross F OST track listing minutes after the Victor website posted it, but that was just luck). So what I could bring to a Macrossworld podcast is an open question. I've been told that I have a good "radio voice," though (Thank you, pack-a-day habit!), and I think my prose style isn't half bad, so those could be worth something...
  18. I have to say that I'm a little shocked by the number of people on this thread who appear to have a hitherto unrealized fetish towards girls with giant carrots on their heads... And again...RANKA KNOWS BRERA!!! Am I the only one who thought that that was the biggest plot point in this episode?
  19. Wait a sec, VFTF1...you accept Basara's skill but you think Alto is too good...? (Sorry...I know it's cheap shot, but I just HAD to point it out...)
  20. Yeah...imagining Macross as a full-on comedic parody show, or trying to figure out exactly how a planned Mospeada sequel got turned into Megazone 23 simply serves to make my brain hurt. I guess I can now add "trying to figure out how an SF samurai show became Southern Cross" to that list...
  21. Garshk...you're embarrassing me...
  22. Or the Imperial March in Gundam F91...
  23. Thank you for that! It may or may not shed any light on the anime, but it's interesting in and of itself. The impression I got of the TV novelization was yeah, that it seemed a little rushed. Hell, even Jack McKinney had twice as many novels to tell the story...
  24. Laissez tomber les filles, man, laissez tomber les filles... (In other words, nice to meet another France Gall fan...she's adorable.) ...And I was waiting for a version without a towel covering Nanase's top.
  25. For BGM, I really like the "next episode preview" music.
