Macross Frontier News Thread II *Read 1st post*

Newest Oricon Singles Chart lists "Diamond Crevasse" at #13 and "Triangler" at #28...I think we can expect brisk sales for the OST. -
No, no...they're talking about the BASARA fan service. I tell you, a finer ass exists on no man.

Private Army is great...one of the tracks that really grabbed me in the show, and that I hoped would be on the album. As for Ranka vs. Sheryl...I think May'n is MEANT to outclass Megumi. Sheryl is the professional, with skill and virtuosity, whereas Ranka has the untrained, "pure" voice, where enthusiasm and energy count for half of the appeal, and cuteness makes up the other half. I still really want to hear May'n's old singles, when she was still Nakabayashi Mei, but I don't know how readily available they are...

I stand corrected. After listening to "Get Free" (which for a long time I didn't even realize was the same singer) "Fukuyama Fire" (on which he sounds...well, almost bloodthirsty), I figured it was a conscious decision on Fukuyama's part to sound more youthful and optimistic on the Fire Bomber songs. That said, the only Humming Bird album I have is "1.2.3," which sounds like the "great, lost Fire Bomber album," and not just because a few M7 songs get reworked for it...it really sounds like Basara is singing those songs. But I guess years of "Holy Lonely Light"-style screaming takes its toll on one's voice... (On a somewhat related note, I FINALLY found Chie Kajiura's first album last weekend, and it really sounds like it could be a Mylene solo album, if she'd taken some LSD before arranging the songs...) Back to Frontier, I agree with everyone who likes the "@FORMO" version of "What 'bout my star" better than Sheryl's, but I'm a sucker for songs that start slow and gradually speed up.

YES! SANITY! (And by "SANITY," I really mean "A VIEWPOINT I AGREE WITH" )
-
As well they should, with a last name that means "Young Girl"...

I think Macross has been very fortunate in having the composers and musicians it's had over the years...from Kentaro Haneda and Mari Iijima, to Shiro Sagisu, to Yoshiki Fukuyama and Chie Kajiura, to Kuniaki Haishima and Holy Raz...but Yoko Kanno and the vocalists and musicians she works with surpass ANY of the others... I think using May'n for Sheryl was an especially brilliant choice, since she has a unique voice...I can't come up with a good way to describe it...sometimes it's pure and lovely, like on "Diamond Cravasse," but on "Don't Be Late," it sounds like broken safety glass...and I mean that in a VERY good way.

If we don't get SOMETHING on February 7, 2009, I'm going to be somewhat peeved...

No offense intended, but what exactly does this have to do with Nanase...? As MisaForever feels about the Klan thread, so do I feel about this thread...somewhat protective. And if we're allowed to keep the B.O.I.N.G. thread going, I'd prefer that it stays on topic, and avoids any controversy (besides the inevitable "boobs vs. glasses" war that is due to split B.O.I.N.G. into two rival factions any day now...). Back to business, this isn't purely a Nanase pic, but she looks good in it, and it's one of my favorite pieces of fanart thus far: And check out what Ranka's feeding Alto...she may look cute, but she has it out for him...

Plus there's the fact that it's INCREDIBLY bad luck to use the name "Macbeth" on anything remotely resembling a stage...and somehow, "Super Dimension Fortress The Scottish Play" has even less of a ring to it... But hey, at least the producer didn't insist it be called "The Merry Wives of Windsor"...
-
Huh? I agree that the orchestral tracks sound very grand (and perhaps kind of Hollywood), but the rest of it...?
-
Funnily enough, I was planning to do just that...skimming it gave me enough that piqued my interest, so I decided to do the whole thing. Once again, I work slowly though, so give it a few weeks...

Dragon Ball movie rescued from dev hell?

I admire your optimism, but unfortunately, I can't share in it. -
Wow...it's Nanalicious!
-
You say that like it's a bad thing... What about Space War I? Macron 1? Agent One...? But yeah there's a large number of tracks that aren't on this one...they'd better be working on Volume 2 right now...

Escaflowne is also HIGHLY worth your time and money. -
I think you've found MisaForever's soulmate!

After a VERY quick scan of the booklet, I've learned that "Infinity" is Sheryl's 3rd single, "What 'bout my star," her 4th, both released in 2057. And that "Triangler" is the theme song for a Macross Broadcasting System "Trendy Drama" (also titled "Triangler") about Hikaru, Misa, and Minmay (!!!). And all this time I though the song was supposed be from Ranka's viewpoint...
-
I've got a secret to confess (well, I confessed it elsewhere, but it's time I came clean here)...Nanase's knockers really do very little for me...it's the glasses and the hair that I like. Is there something wrong with me...?
-
I think Fukuyama WAS kind of acting when he did Basara..."Get Free," for example, definitely doesn't sound like a Fire Bomber song (although some of the Humming Bird stuff does). And yes, that IS a cover of "Papa Don't Preach." I MUST FIND THAT SINGLE! Sheryl singing Madonna could almost, ALMOST be better than Hikaru and Minmay's "Blowin' in the Wind" duet!
-
If he can follow the subs, that is...In which case, Miriya's kid is a Jenius! Um, I mean "genius."
-
Thanks! Still...Roy Focker said we shouldn't post images for a while, and I'm fine with that. I assume he'll let us know when the time out is over. Plus, without the Klan thread, this one kind of loses some of its purpose, I think. Thus, perhaps a catch-all fanart thread is called for. Just not yet...

Actually...maybe I wasn't beaten to the punch. I think the Quantum Raws RAR is WAV files, whereas the DMHY one I'm getting is 320kbps mp3...It's also not a RAR (I hate RAR torrents...)
