Nope, it's not a bad translation. They say it in English in the show. And hey, at least it's better than "Pink Pecker"...

Well...on the one hand, since "Bird Human" is not a real movie, the changes we saw are the only changes that exist. But getting more into the spirit of things, Nutuk the shaman doesn't appear to be a character in the movie, and his important points in the story involved A) telling the Mayan legend of the Protoculture uplifing humanity, and B) doing the ceremony for Mao after the blood transfusion. The Mayan legend could be retold in other ways (through Sara, for example), but the fact that Nutuk isn't in the movie coupled with the fact that "Mao" looks fine at the end of the movie makes me think that the transfusion would've been cut out completely. Which also probably means no Mini-Mao appearing the Shin's VF-0... -
...you hope. A few weeks ago, you might have said the same thing about Zero. Who knows what episodes 15-26 have in store for us?

Shinsen sounded fine to me, but my speakers aren't the best. And yah...my hope is that they can take advantage of the break to get caught up...but *grits teeth and recites mantra* quality is more important than speed...

Because no one has any memory of the series beyond the latest episode, right...?

Regarding missing music on OST 1...the electronic-based songs threw me off for a bit, but now I'm thinking that perhaps we've got a Macross Plus situation, where the first OST features the symphonic tracks and OST 2 will feature the electronic/rock tracks. Even "Zero Hour" and "Private Army" use the orchestra. I kind of hope I'm wrong, as there do seem to be some orchestral scores that don't show up on OST 1, and it would be a shame to have to wait for the inevitable grab-bag "Macross F ~for Deculture only~" (or whatever) release in order to get them...

Since others have answered your questions, I'll just express my envy that you're getting to watch all of this for the first time. (And two weeks is pretty ambitious for getting through the whole she-bang, but hey, you never know...)

After looking at the link, I think that, clearly, the public didn't realize that Nutuk the Old Shaman didn't exist... (I was also a little annoyed by the blogger's "cost-saving" cracks...I guess I don't mind reused footage as long it's done cleverly. I always thought "Phantasm" from SDF M was the gold standard for how to do a clip show...now I have to add "Legend of Zero" as the gold standard for how to recycle backgrounds...) -

Mao's voice actress was Yuuka Nanten, who could be given the nickname of Yuu-chan. Good catch, Kresphy! -
I just wish I could have come up with a newbie question as brilliant as this one. (The poster in question hasn't shown up again since his first day on the board, almost two months ago...so it's probably safe to link to this without offense...)

The good kind! Yeah, her hair's a little lighter, but (as Morpheus said) she looks a lot more like Mao than Ranka does. -

Good point...I should've specified that Macross CHARACTERS have a high survival rate. Yes, a few will die (even in M7...but not, IIRC, MD7), but most will survive, even (usually) some of the villains. Of course, those villains have to turn good, though. Unlike, say, Zambot 3, or Zeta Gundam, or the biggest body count in any story ever in the history of storytelling: Ideon. (MAN, what a great ending that was! ) Still, Froniter is probably the first Macross series where there is a somewhat large number of characters who I think could be bumped off. Leon's doomed, Brera's toast, Bilra's a goner, and any list of potential worm food would, I think, have to include Ozma, Michael, Luca, Grace, Kathy, Klan, Canaria, even (ulp!) Nanase... EDIT: As you say, the "love traingle" path to survival is not completely foolproof. I would respectfully submit that if you find yourself in a Macross-style situation, you should take some singing lessons IMMEDIATELY. And just to be on the safe side, make sure you sing pop songs, not operatic Pacific Islander songs. -

If this were a Tomino series from the '80s, you'd probably be right. But Macross series have a pretty high survivability rating. It's possible, but I think not very likely... -

WHICH artifacts in Zero seemed like Biological Weapons? Just the Birdman? And the Vajra focussing on Ranka and/or Sheryl always runs into the same problem, whatever the reason given: why did they attack Galaxy? -

The Zero OVA can't be the "Bird Human" movie, since Mao looks nothing like Ranka, and Sara doesn't look even a little like ol' What's-'Er-Name-What-Won-the-Miss-Macross-Frontier-Contest. Now, if Yuu-chan hadn't become Hydra-food*, we might wonder...since she was the spitting image of Mao. * Yeah, I know she wasn't eaten. I just like pretending that she was. -
Enh, it's a joke that probably no one gets. Back on Gundam.com, someone once started a new thread that just said, "WHY EVEN ZEON ARE FIGHTING". No punctation, nothing. The member posted once and never came back, leaving everyone to speculate on what he meant. One person got all high and mighty about "useless posts," and another repsonded that he had been asking why the One Year War started, which is a very important question for Gundam. My favorite response was that it wasn't a question at all, but rather an exclamation: "Why, even Zeon are fighting!" I was hoping someone else here would get it (and I was trying to follow in the noble footsteps of those who asked stupid questions when the first Newbie Thread was opened), but it's pretty obscure.

I kinda hope Frontier DOESN'T answer what happened to them...I liked the ambiguity of the ending, which could be happy or sad, depending on what you think happened. -
And if voting for Klan and Nanase gets any closer, we'll need to get the Supreme Court in to decide who the winner between them is...

You mean next next week's episode... -
I find it interesting that everyone thinks it's a great coda to the original series. When my friends and I first saw it twenty years ago, none of us knew that it was the ending...instead, we all figured it was a teaser for an upcoming sequel. We kept waiting...and waiting... (And then Macross II came out, and we were all like . And then we all went . And then we were totally . And finally, we were all . But that's a different story, I guess...)

I take exception to your lumping Macross 7 in with Harmony Gold Macross and Space Gandam V. Neither of the latter had Max kicking tail in a VF-22, for example.

'Sokay...just because you can't change your name doesn't mean we can't just call you "MisaForsaken."
