Yeah. That why I made an exception for DYRL. Any other retcons...? The VF-0 fits in nicely (with a bit of tweaking). For everything, canonicity holds. (Incidentally, that interview was done before Macross Plus, and, as such, was before the Hory Froating Head decided that DYRL was a movie within the Macross Universe.)

Well...the Compendium has the SDF-2 Megalord and the Megaroad-01. I remember back when I first saw Perfect Memory, and I thought the SDF-2 was just an unused design for what would later turn out to be the Megaroad-01 (since Perfect Memory came out before Flashback 2012, IIRC). It may have been retconned into existence, but I still don't believe that any were ever built. And I definitely don't believe that one is sitting on Gallia 4.

Yes, please. Two, as a matter of fact. First, the Compendium states that the SDF-2 was planned but never completed. If they completed some later, wouldn't it NOT be listed as "planned"...? Second, in Japanese, "Megaroad" and "Megalord" (and for that matter, "Megaload") would all be メガロード. Doesn't it seem strange to you that they would essentially call both ships by the same name...? (I guess that's not really an answerable question, it just struck me as really, really odd...)

What's the difference between the names Megalord and Megaroad...? And why is there no Megalord entry at the Compendium?

But the next ep preview said it was "First Generation," i.e. built before Frontier, built before VF-X2, built before 7, built before Plus, built before (and during) Zero. Or can you come up with a definition of "first generation" that means something else...?

Oops. My mistake. I didn't watch either one...I wait until Shinsen. What exactly are we assuming...? Is there ANYTHING in ANY Macross material ANYWHERE that hints that the SDF-1 Macross is NOT one of a kind?

Again, we run into the same problem we had with "Howard Glass: A President or THE President?" Japanese has no articles, so the addition of "A First Generation blah blah blah" is all Chihiro's doing. If they had had more time, they probably would've put "The First Generation Macross."

And that would seem kind of...pointless. I mean, the Macross was an alien ship rebuilt with the best human technology available at the time. Why make another one when they could just go and make something better?

First, Occam's Razor doesn't really apply to fiction, sense making the unreasonable reasonable is one of the jobs of a writer. Second the SDF-2 (i.e. the Megaroad-01) looks nothing like the original Macross, and couldn't transform anyway... So it can't be the SDF-2. There's only one Macross, and it's on Gallia 4...

Well...one of the problems is that different models of the same fighter are grouped together. I voted for the VF-19 Fire Valkyrie, which means I also ended up voting for the YF-19. If the Fire Valkryie had had its own option, the YF-19 would have at least one less vote. Maybe other people also voted for basara's sweet ride...? (Unlikely, but you never know.) And the VF-4 is the Boba Fett of Macross...it gets such a small appearance, but leaves you wanting to see more...
