  1. Well...that's also how she was presented in the first bunch of episodes, as well. Or as MST3K would put it: Dumb movie character: "She seemed like a nice enough woman." Joel and the bots: "At first!"
  2. Not surprising...but really, is she WRONG?
  3. So I'm guessing that really f cked up big time by ...?
  4. Pray that no one posts a pic of Man-Faye...
  5. I've given up speculating about what . But I definitely agree with others that . EDIT: and yes,
  6. Macross has never been a "kill 'em all" series...unless you happened to live on earth in 2010. I don't see that changing for this series. Although, definitely, I certainly BELIEVE that a good number of character are killable...which I didn't feel in Macross 7.
  7. Oh, it'd take a lot more than your boorish behavior to sink me...
  8. I'm going to hold you to that.
  9. I second that. This series just gets better and better... Duke Togo
  10. Jeez...would it kill you to say thanks?
  11. But that's kind of the problem...what if the Vajra ARE malevolent? Then there's no similarity. I guess I just don't want to see Alto become the Dad for a large Brazilian family...
  12. Dude. As soon as you read this, either go to your nearest bookstore or log on to Amazon.com, and buy Ender's Game. You will thank us forever. Just don't start reading it at night unless you have nothing planned for the next day...
  13. I feel a little uneasy about this thread...it seems to essentially be saying that there's a theory that Frontier *MAY* turn out like Ender's Game, in which case...Frontier is like Ender's Game. Every similarity posited has "theory," "possible," or "stretch" attached to it...which sort of undermines the premise...
  14. Hell yes we can! Who says our judgment has to be informed and correct...?
  15. This is just occuring to you...?
  16. You keep your hands off my chick and I'll keep my hands off yours...
  17. I give it five stars, but I can't dance to it.
  18. The Dimension Eater's going to eat Klan in an upcoming episode. Then Michael will say, "NOOO! Klan's been eaten! Damn you, Dimension Eater! Eat THIS!" Then he'll get eaten, too. Then the Dimension Eater will eat other people, too, while they shout, "NOOOO! The Dimension Eater is eating us!" It'll be GREAT.
  19. Can someone pull up the ORLY owl image? *major eye roll here* Welcome, Shoji Kawamori, to THIS IS YOUR FANBASE!!!
  20. I think we should keep the thread pinned and retitle it "Reflections Upon Macross as a Whole, Sparked by Frontier Reaching its Halfway Point."
  21. Klan says, "Good morning Michael!" and then Michael says (I think), "Why do you always stick so close to me in the morning?" And the wishes put in the tree are "I want to become a NORMAL Miclone" and "I want Ozma to marry me. -Bobby"
  22. Nope, not once. Not even during "Macross's Fastest Liftoff" or the almost entirely nonsensical episode 39. I've watched Macross 7 enough times that I rarely cringe anymore. Oddly, the stuff that still bothers me is, first: that fire Bomber never really look like they're playing their instruments (you have to hit CHORDS, guys, not just strum!) and the way that the vampires stand around passively while Basara and Mylene and/or Michael decide it's a fabulous time to have an argument. I even think "Planet Dance" is a fun song, and would sound great if they would just take out that damn harmonica (which, thankfully, they do on a lot of later versions of the song). EDIT: ALL RIGHT! I've moved out of the realm of SDFM titles, and into the clutch of Macross Plus ones! But what happened to Macross II...? I wanted to be "Ishtar's hairstylist" or "Hibiki's copy editor"...
  23. It took Frontier to make you realize that? I thought it's total essence of sucky lameness radiated from the DVD case like a malodorous, heavy, almost viscous black haze of gaseous incompetence, but that may have just been me...
  24. I've been through the Codec problem, and the big problem is that I have a Mac 10.2.8 and all the codecs are for 10.3 or above. I'll probably get a new computer soon, so it shouldn't be a problem for long. And this is the first new series I've watched fansubbed, so I don't completely know how it works...I just assumed that once the DVDs start coming out, some new group will jump on the bandwagon...I may be wrong about that, though. Most of the time with Elmo I felt like I was just nodding my head and trying to follow what he was saying. Carmen was much easier, and I think more successful. I certainly see what you mean about Alto, Ranka, and Sheryl's speech patterns...there's not a whole lot of quirkiness in the main characters, is there? And thanks for the translation help! It was one of those maddening sentences where I say to myself, "I know EVERY word in this sentence...why can't I figure out what it means???" And then I spend the next hour puzzling over it every which way, which is one of the main reasons I'd be useless as a speed-subber, even if I were fluent (which I'm most assuredly not).
  25. I had a girlfriend years ago who was, I believe, from a very wealthy family (at least, her dad owned several golf courses in Tokyo...), and, as she was the oldest of three daughters (and no sons), there was a lot of talk of whoever she ended up marrying taking her surname (before you ask, I was never in the running...I don't think her parents would approve of her marrying a gaijin, or even dating one ). Anyway, she got married and it didn't end up happening, because her husband REALLY didn't want it to. And that's the only situation, Evangelion aside, where I've even heard TALK about that rare custom...
