I will admit that, through Nanase, you can kind of tell that the character designer got her start doing hentai (it IS a "her," right?). But she's so sweet, and her glasses are so cute, and she has such an adorable crush on Ranka that I just HAVE to love her. ...and I think I'm starting to sound a little too much like MisaForsaken...

Well...Char's Counterattack novelization aside, you didn't actually SEE them die, right...? Back to Macross, I think one of the problems is that, if you were like me in 1987, you saw Flashback 2012 and thought that it was a prologue rather than an epilogue. That, and the fact that all of the Macross sequels have felt more like side stories than genuine sequels (at least to me...and it's not a put-down) does kind of make it feel like there's a Megaroad-shaped vacuum in the Macross universe. But yeah, that yearning feeling goes away after a while.

In some ways, it's not strange at all...they're the original Macross Trio, and (almost) every macross fan feels a great sense of attachment to them. On the other hand, you don't get too many people pestering Yoshiyuki Tomino to ressurrect Amuro and Char...

Duke Togo floated the idea to me a while back and it sounded good to me then. Not sure if he'd still be in on it, though. But me, I'd like to re-sub ALL of Macross, and impose some uniformity on the subs (mostly for little things like romanization of names and making sure that repeated dialogue (in, for example, Flashback 2012 or Frontier) gets trasnlated the same way every time). That'd take a while, though.

Ah yes, I remember well the Mac Plus days...and the scrounging around the monthly Shrine Auditorium porn comic convention to find Macross 7 fansubs, and renting it the raw VHS tapes from one of the Little Tokyo video stores...and getting bootleg Zero DVDs... But nothing beats getting the Animeigo boxset after waiting FIFTEEN FRICKIN' YEARS for the whole series to be subbed. Really, the only thing that would beat that natural high would be holding an R1 DYRL DVD in my sweaty hands...

Unlikely, since Kawamori was saying way back in the '90s that he was done with them, at a point when HG hadn't discovered the power of parasitical thinking.

I plan to include them in the Macross Mega-Torrent, set to be released on February 7, 2009 (the date of the Macross's launch and the beginning of Space War I). There's a thread about it here.

Yeah, I definitely understand WHY mistakes like that get made...but I really hope someone comes along, AFTER we got the real lyrics to the songs, AFTER we learned that the guy's name is spelled "Michael Blanc," AFTER "Ranka" won out over "Lanka," AFTER oblique hints in the dialogue are spelled out, and do a real proper sub of the show. If no one else wants to do it, hell, I'll learn how to do myself. Anyone with me?

I would never do an ACTUAL marathon...two-to-three episodes (or a movie) per day is enough for me. Once Frontier's added to the mix, it would take about seven or eight weeks. As for the order, I always watch it in production order: 1. SDF Macross 2. DYRL 3. Flashback 2012 4. Macross II 5. Macross-A Future Chronicle and Macross Plus 6. Macross's Fastest Liftoff and Macross 7 7. Macross 7/Macross Plus Movies 8. Macross 7 Encore 9. Macross Dynamite 7 10. 20th Anniversary DVD and Macross Zero I'm unsure what to do with Frontier, since I don't particularly want to watch the Deculture Edition and the Broadcast Edition of Frontier on the same night, so I'll probably watch the 25th Anniversary Special (and Deculture) on the first night and the Yakk Deculture Edition (with eps. 2 and 3) on the second...and cut out the Broadcast Edition completely. BTW, watching the Deculture Edition again...damn, Shinsen messed up on a lot of the names. "Hiiro"...?

Hey, at least the new FAST Packs wait around in orbit until you want them again...
