Macross Frontier Episode 16 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*

Why does everyone have to "think" Brera's a cyborg...? We KNOW he is! Or is there something I'm missing here...? And I loved how, in Ranka's Island 14 photo ops, Brera's always there...someone in Ranka's PR department isn't doing his job... -
I probably should stay out of this thread, but I should state that my realization came from taking creating a movie script for iMacross IV by copying and pasting from the OVA srt file (where possible) and typing up the dialogue for the alternate scenes from the Manga Movie Edition subs. In EVERY case where "Alpha One" came up in the OVA script, I had to change it to "Eagle One," and it got REALLY annoying after a while...a nuisance like that isn't something you forget easily... (I also noticed that General Gomez is nowhere mentioned in the Movie Edition...even a throwaway line referring to him from the OVA was changed to "top brass" or something like that.)

Sometimes, but very rarely, I'm glad I don't get home from work until six on Thursdays. I got in, checked Tokyo Toshokan, and *BOOM*: there's raw. Saves me the trouble of sitting around waiting all day for something to appear...although it usually means that the episode discussion thread is fifteen or sixteen pages long by the time i get to it (but I'm a good boy! I read EVERY WORD). On to the episode: And with all due respect, whlile is a fine alternate title, I think may be more appropriate... -

Unless you learned it phonetically, as most singers do... And I mentioned "Papa Don'T Preach" because it's the most obvious, but on her entire first two singles, the English sounds fine. "Fallin' In or Not" doesn't sound quite as good, though, but that may be because the words are put to a completely unnatural sounding rhythm..."FAL-lin' in OR NO~OT"...I defy anyone with English experience to sing that and sound natural. and I don't see what's so bad about her English pronunciation in the Sheryl songs, anyway...as I said before, I've heard MUCH worse from J-Pop singers...at the very least, she (thankfully0 doesn't sing, "It's wrong, wrong goodbye..." -
Either that, or it's the Second Foundation trying to throw us off their scent...

To be frank, I never understood how it was all supposed to have worked out...the Varauta Army seemed like they would be helpless without the Protodeviln's control...but somehow, with the big monsters sealed away, the Supervision Army could not only function, but do pretty well for tens of thousdands of years...? How?
-
IIRC, it's supposed to be a VF-19A. But if the Hasegawa kit is anything to go by, it looks just like a YF-19 with a different paint job.
-
Before the we saw the WTF-1, I would've said that the Supervision Army went to its ultimate demise about fifty to sixty years before Frontier...but now, I'm no longer so sure.

That's...highly probable. I still think her English pronunciation on the Sheryl songs is fine, though. At least, I've heard J-Pop singers who are MUCH worse... -
I stand corrected. One of the endearing (?) things about Basara is that he will respect anyone who sits down and listens. If Mussolini came by and said, "Hey, could you play that 'Submarine Street' song? I dig it," Basara would think the old dude was a-okay. So I would venture to say that Basara isn't anti-anybody, really. There's just "Audience" and "Potential Audience." As for the other problems with M7 that you mention, I can't really disagree, but they don't really bug me much anymore, and wouldn't bug me at all if the series were at least ten episodes shorter. There IS room for goofiness in Macross ("Mr. Lingerie," anyone?), and the underlying message of M7 is pretty radical, at least in the world of mecha shows. This idea just occured to me right now, so I don't know if it's worth anything, but here goes: I wonder if one of the reasons Macross fans react violently against M7 is because there's an implied criticism of them (us) in the show...i.e. "Remember all those explosions and missiles and stuff you thought was so cool in the original show? Well, here's a main character who definitely does NOT agree with you, and any time he chides Mylene for using missiles, he's also chiding you for wanting to see them used." I dunno...it's a thought.

Quiet, you! -
Good point about Emoticons...but I rarely like to telegraph when I'm being ironic...tends to suck all the irony out of it. I typed out the Plus Movie script for boinger a few months ago, and I swear that Alpha One was never mentioned in it. Oh well...I'll go back and check, but you owe me a pterosaur steak dinner if you're wrong.

IIRC, that quote was from an old issue of Animag from '89 or thereabouts. (I'm pretty sure it's the same interview where he "declines to describe [the VF-4] as transforming," which caused its own Unkillable Macross Fallacy.) The problem with using it as the answer is that the interview was conducted a few years BEFORE they decided that DYRL was a movie within the series, which makes it somewhat invalid to use for current Macross theorizing. I'm not sure it's worth all the worry it's caused over the years, though. If a Macross series wants to refer back to Space War I, sometimes they use TV designs, sometimes DYRL designs. As long as it looks cool, who cares which one "happened"? -
Yikes! My post about having to know Greek was sarcastic...I don't see why the Alpha and Omega post was funny, either; and I assume that's because it's not funny. Still...it gives me the chance to wonder why they called the YF-19 "Alpha One" in the OVA but "Eagle One" in the Movie Edtion...

Nanase's FAR superior to either Ranka or Sheryl. No, shut up. She is.

Please don't associate something as wonderful as Macross with the hideous demon children known as Morning Musume. Thank you. -
Well yeah...the OST titles ruined a lot...way back in April, I posted them here and translated them, and ended up saying something like "'Ninjin' means 'carrot,' but that CAN'T be right...'Ninjiin' must be something else..." And oh how wrong I was... And then I put a bunch of exclamation points next to "Aimo ~ Tori no Hito" and mentioned something about those who saw a connection to MacZero were right...only to have ma2ha3 come along a month later and say, "of course there's a connection. they are make movie of zero" or something like that...

 I think she's actually potato bread. At this point, it's probably easier to make a list of what Ranka isn't than what she is... -

Listen to May'n cover of "Papa Don't Preach" before you say that...awful choice of songs, but she sounds good on it. -
Looking for a good sci-fi/fantasy book

It's amazing how many people start that book with the intention of reading a chapter or two, and end up finishing it in one sitting, isn't it? Whenever I recommend it to anybody, I always warn them not to start it until they have a few free hours... -
Enh, you have to speak Greek to get it.

I'm getting an Eva vibe from the whole series...so perhaps (like in Eva) there are only two people who know the whole story, and neither of them tell it. I hope not, of course, but I'm preparing myself for an inconclusive ending...
