While I agree with the majority of what you say, let's be fair...Robotech wasn't infantilized or completely sanitized. People died in Robotech, which was a major shocker at the time. If you watch Voltron compared to Golion, or (especially) Battle of the Planets compared to Gatchaman...well, they're not even in the same league as Robotech. I strongly dislike Robotech for the changes made to the Macross (and, to a lesser degree, Mospeada) story, I hate the rationalizations and evasions of die-hard Robotech fans, and I abhor HG's "cut off your nose to spite big West's face" business practices...but Robotech was pretty revolutionary for its time. The music sucks, though. EDIT: As for the original poster's claim that this thread isn't flame bait, but a discussion generator...I have to wonder about the title. Asking WHY something is better or worse assumes that it IS better or worse, and brooks no denial. A better title for a discussion thread, I think, would've been "Which Music Is Better: Macross or Robotech?" Especially since it seems that very few people here agree with you, so the question of "why" it's better becomes nonsensical.

It's a bit off-topic (okay, VERY off topic), but this reminds me of the woman who interviewed Matsuda Seiko (Japanese superstar and real-life model for Minmay...see, it DOES tie in!) when Seiko was trying to break into the western market. The interviewer said it was a terrible session, because everytime she would ask Seiko a question ("What kind of clothes do you like to wear on stage?"), Seiko would toss the question back to her ("I don't know...what kind of clothes would YOU like to wear if you were on stage?"). In the end, the interview tape had very little Seiko, and A LOT of the interviewer rambling on.

If you're looking for a full language system for Zentradi, you'll be disappointed. Some Macross books have a short Zentradi-Japanese dictionary, and that's pretty much it. There are no verb tenses, grammar, or anything else like that.

I heard that someone was coming out with one, but I've never seen it. I haven't looked too hard, though. And the old U.S. Renditions VHS version was dub only, unfortunately. And they only got up to episode...16? 17? Somewhere around there. I think there were 35 episodes total...which you can find subbed a couple of torrents. There were also the two Orguss Memorials, which I have somewhere on an aged VHS tape. As far as i know, those are nowhere on any of the internets.

You mean for a drama album...? Highly unlikely, since most of the drama albums happen during the series in question rather than after. A "Miss D.J." style album with Sheryl would be quite awesome, really. Especially if they got Shammy back to do the U.N. Spacy Recruitment Ad again...

Speaking rationally, of course I know it won't go to 64 episodes...and shorter gives it less time to wear out its welcome. I do hope that the ending will be such that it would be possible to revisit these characters at a later date...either for a movie, or an OVA (or both!). Failing that (i.e. if Kawamori gets bored of them, or if everybody dies), I hope we'll AT LEAST get a good drama album out of the series. I've been listening obssessively to "Miss D.J.," "Distantly Fading Memories," "Macross Love,' "Macross Classsic," and "Docking Festival," and I hope that Frontier gets an album of its own.

But...but...an alto is a woman who sings with a low voice...LOTS of women are "Altos." As for this guy...Kabuki families are old, very traditional, unafraid to be typecast, and they adopt. So Alto is probably in the same Kabuki family (BTW, "Saotome" means "Young Girl") as this guy...just fifty years later.

"49 episodes + 3 unaired episodes" is how the put it in Macross Chornicles. But those episodes were never shown on TV, and my law is the law of Macross TV. And don't even THINK about mentioning Macross' Fastest Liftoff...it doesn't count! Admit I'm right! ADMIT I'M RIGHT!

I'm surprised that a thread with a title SO PRECISELY CALCULATED to make a Macross fan's blood boil hasn't been locked yet... Anyway: flame flame flame flame flame. I used to make fun of Robotech music when I was eleven, and it hasn't improved appreciably since. Some of the Macross BGM hasn't aged terribly well, either, but overall, I think it holds up better. Orchestral music > cheesy '80s synth.

It must go even longer, by the newly established LAW OF MACROSS TV SERIES: SDF:M - 36 episodes (6x6) Macross 7 - 49 episodes (7x7) Therefore, I decree that Macross Frontier MUST go to 64 episodes! (Well, it'd be nice, wouldn't it...?)

And, given the Dynamite 7 discussions, I think the answer would have to be "no."

No, it's definitely the collection that I put together. There was a note with the torrent explaining that it was just something I put together, but the torrent got reposted to a lot of different trackers, turned into a RAR file, and lots of other things. In all cases, my explanatory note got left out...resulting (I'm sure) in a lot of confusion.

Too true. I actually screamed a very loud expletive at the screen at the end of episode 3 (which, like a fool, I bought the day it came out in the U.S.).

That's all I've found, too...I got Lunar for 12 and 13, and I'm getting all of Kei for good measure. Thank goodness for my brand-new, only 1/5 full 500GB hard drive...
