Geeks Overanalyzing Compulsively...?
-
Which DVDs do you want? Some of them are available from reputable sellers like Amazon or Robotech.com (which had the first series really cheap for a while). Others aren't, and you're best bet would be ebay or something.
-
I don't think this has been mentioned yet...we have a title for O.S.T. 2: "Nyan Tora." EDIT: I'm guessing the "Tora" is short for "Triangle," but I could be wrong...
-
This is probably a Newbie Thread question, but anyway... Considering that most Macross is not available legally in the western world, if you want Macross with subs, you're going to have to go to some iffy places and get iffy DVDs with iffy subs...so what's "best" is not really relevant...

Who is going to die in Macross Frontier???

...Unless they announce a movie or OVA or something... -
I must have missed the beginning of the Yoshinol thing...so I don't know how it got started, but there was a pic of some drink (?) called Yoshinol that had the Macross kite on it. I have no idea if it was real or not, but it became a drink that was offered to anyone who renounced Robotech in favor of Macross. The doorknobs are easier...it's an Agent ONE thing. IIRC, someone was talking about how some guy had stolen his girlfriend, and Agent ONE suggested that a good solution would be to go to the girlfriend-stealer's house (when he wasn't home, of course) and masturbate all over guy's doorknob. Interesting advice, but I sincerely hope it was not heeded...

Could be. I think the Zero music is excellent. I especially like how the BGM seems Pacific Island-y and Macross-y at the same time. And "Yanyan" is a seriously underrated Macross song. Still, I completely agree with you that "Dogfight" is the standard by which all others are judged. Well, that and the original SDFM eyecatch "Dudl-ludun, DUN DUN Dudl-ludun" music...which I'm rather surprised has never popped up on any other Macross soundtrack. (Y'know, it's actually really difficult to find a verbal approximation for that fragment of BGM...)

ma2ha3 tells great jokes, as well. But I think the funniest thread is still this one: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=25757 ALL-TIME MACROSSWORLD CLASSIC! -

Don't you mean "their BEETLE Queen concert"...? -
It was written by Sukehiro Tomita, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it came out that a lot of the information about Minmay from the interview portion was gleaned from Mari Iijima's life. I have no proof on that, of course...just my intuition talking. And the "short, thick legs" kind of sticks out...since, in Japanese, it's "Daikon Ashi"...literally, "radish legs." If you remember the Olympic skater from years back, Midori Ito, everyone was making fun of her for her "daikon ashi," but that's kind of an extreme case...

Who is going to die in Macross Frontier???

UNLIKE Gundam...? Ye gods, man, have you SEEN Zeta Gundam? Char's Counterattack? V Gundam? Besides, no Macross series has ever been a grim war story...well, besides Zero. And even that ended with the power love and song winning out over hate. If you want grimness and a high body-count, watch Ideon. And Grace is not a bookworm...she's that old archetype (beloved in 1950s and '60s movies) of the plain girl who takes off her glasses and pulls down her hair...and suddenly becomes a sex bomb. superhuman, tentacled monster. -
Why do you need a Sheryl version when you've got Bobby's...?
-
And thanks for that! I've heard the original Japanese version by the Peanuts, and I knew it was a cover of an English song, but I had never heard it before. Now I should probably track down the English verison of "Lili Marlene" as well...
-
My intuition says that the Ranka version had more effort put into its construction, and then the song was "reverse-engineered" into a Sheryl song. There's simply more going on musically in the Ranka version (of course, more is not necessarily better) with all those "Baba O'Riley" synthesizer burbles and guitar riffs coming in where you least expect them. I like the Ranka version better, but I think there's a case for the Sheryl version as well. At this point, I pretty much have almost every Macross-related album, either physically on CD or in mp3 form. I made a huge, 36-hour playlist of all of it on iTunes, and there are only two albums that I genuinely dislike (Live Fire and English Fire). The rest of it, ALL of it, ranges from good to great. Of course, I'm sure some of it is merely passable, and I like it solely because of its connection to a show that I love, but still...Macross has benefitted from A LOT of remarkably talented muscians over the years. Hey...ten years late is better than never. But if it DOES crash here, I'm moving to Atalia Island and reserving my seat on board the ship early.

Um...since he helped make a Gundam fanzine in 1980...? We know...there's a link to the 192kbps version at the beginning of the Episode 19/MKV Discussion thread... There's also a couple of better quality versions out there now as well. -
Pimp away! It's a great picture!

I don't think anyone has suggested that either Bobby or the Bridge Bunnies will die. Or Captain Wilder...or Bilra...or Kanaria. So yeah...I say Monica's gonna go next. -

Macross Frontier Episode 19 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
Gubaba replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Since we're so far off-topic, I guess I can talk about something slightly off-topic, and seem like I'm bringing the thread back home...relatively, of course. Anyway, as we near the end of the show, the speculation seems to be going into overdrive, and I'm wondering if there's anyone else out there who simply doesn't want to read it. I guess I'm just worried that someone's going to hit on the right theory and unknowingly give away the ending. Which is not technically a spoiler, but has much the same effect...you're watching the last episode, suddenly Basara appears, singing at the Vajra, the lobster shells crack, and you think, "Aw, man...VFTF-1 was right...here come the Vajras' Inner Beauty Men," and indeed, that's what happens. In any case, it sems there are fewer and fewer Frontier threads that I actually feel comfortable reading, especially after the first couple of pages. And yet I want to keep up with what's happening here. What's a boy to do, huh? Oh, and add me to the list of people who can't play H.264 stuff. My computer is too old for the codecs. Plus, I use VLC because I have a mac, so softsubs generally look awful. Give me hardsubbed XviD (or DivX or whatever it is) any day. -

Ah, that's only because you saw Megazone 23 and Akira...where the cutesy girl gets it in the end.
