Enh, my name is only Gubaba because I consider myself small and insignificant in the gand scheme of Macross fandom...and i have an innate distrust of people who take self-aggrandizing handles like "HIKARU ICHIJO SKULL ONE." In other words, I've seen Mac7 about five or six times, but that's over the last twelve years; I've only watched it twice with subs, and one of those times was with crappy HK bootleg DVD subs. Although, yeah...my memory is jarred. Max did indeed say that Basara is better than he is NOW, but that he (Max) was better than him (Basara) before. So I stand corrected. Still, Basara is very, very good, despite the fact that (as Mr. March points out) it's merely a plot contrivance that makes it so.

That's so crazy that just might be right. Or try this: Every TV network in the world sent their very best people to cover the launch of the Macross. And, as we all know, most people in TV really wish that they were doing movies...so once the ship folded, they decided to get out of TV once and for all and live their dreams.
-
And again, Max said Basara was the better pilot... Yes, it's a cheap ploy by the writers to try to make Basara seem better. Yes, the battle scenes in DYRL, Plus, Zero, Froniter, hell, even MacII, are fiercer and more complicated than anything in Mac7. Yes, we have no other reason to believe that Basara is awesomeness personified, but...Max said it. And he's a genius, so he should know. Right?

But "Miss D.J." doesn't happen post-SWI, it happens somewhere around episodes 22 to 24...

Agreed. It was cute for about six or seven posts, and now its about as funny as Gallagher hitting a watermelon pineapple with a slegehammer. -
Are you including Max and Millia there...?

But if Myung hadn't been singing, Isamu would've died well before he even reached the Macross... I guess I just get annoyed when people say they want the war machines to save the day in a Macross series, when that's antithetcal to the whole point of the series in all its various incarnations. I feel the same way when people mention (as people on other forums have) that they're tired of every Macross series having a singer. you might as well say, "You know, Gundam's a great series and all, but I'm really sick of every Gundam series having space colonies and mobile suits." In Macross, the power of love and song is ALWAYS greater than military strength. If you don't accept that (at least in fictional terms), then every Macross ending (except, maybe, ep. 36 of the original series, as Kronnang Dunn pointed out) will be disappointing. (And yes, Master Dex, I guess I did misunderstand the original post...but the point still stands...a Macross series in which a BFG saved the day WOULD be original, but so would a Macross series without Valkyries, music, or a love triangle...and I don't think any of us would want to see that series.) -
I agree completely. Well...it's listed here (in February): http://macross.anime.net/wiki/2010 And certainly nothing else on the album really seems to conflict with established continuity...not that I've noticed, at any rate. "Miss D.J." is there, too, although that seems rather questionable ("Shao Pai Long" won a movie award? Were enough movies made onboard the Macross to even have a competition...? If so, how?).

Max admitted that Basara was the better pilot, so I think he'd have to head the list...

Who knows? Hikaru goes to a Minmay concerned which is cancelled because of too much enthusiastic stomping by giant Zentradi (who, thankfully, all shout, "L-O-V-E LOVELY MINMAY!"), and he ends up meeting the Flower Girl, who is a big Minmay fan and came all the way from Japan for the concert (but she arrived after it was cancelled...which is just the sort of thing that would happen in Mac7, isn't it?). It's unlikely that she's the same person (because she'd be in her fifties by the time of Mac7), but maybe the later version is a clone...? At any rate, I think she's the only character to appear in some connection with the original SDFM, Mac7, AND Frontier...

Are you implying, sir, that Minmay did NOT save the day...? You insult our fair idol, and I challenege you to a duel. Drawn microphones at dawn. -
It's on my list...so if Renato doesn't get to it first, I'll translate it. And yes, not does it have the Minmay-fan Flower Girl, it also has a young Millard joining Skull Squadron.

Wait...what was the Nanashi debacle? Was that when someone wanted to use his scans, and he didn't want them to...? I remember a lot of people getting mixed up in that one.

Sorry...economics was never my forte. Unlike "reflected sound of underground elves," in which which I'm quite well-versed. -

Steal away! Seriously, the more the merrier. The only real shock for me is that none of this stuff has been translated yet...at least, not on the internet.

Someone NEEDS to photoshop a VF-171 in the background of that pic...or at least put the frame-lines (or whatever you call them) in the sky... -
That's right...I'm part of the conspiracy, baby! SUBMIT OR DIE!

Macross Frontier Episode 19 Talkback Thread *READ 1st Post*
Gubaba replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
They used it in the comic, so if you really NEED to see it flying, that may be your only outlet... Personally, the only way I'd like to see it in action is if the gravity on Frontier goes wonky, and everything starts falling sideways (including Sheryl and/or Ranka). Then Alto could use it to ram through a bridge and grab them. -
Macross II, you can get legally. The others you can't. Unless you want the unsubbed R2 DVDs.
