Well, he's certainly slimy enough to cause it... Something tells me that this is going to comedown to Macross Quarter vs. Macross Frontier (possibly controlled by Grace), so when Grace and leon go, I think that's where and how... Although really, I'm kind of hoping for Grace to re-enact Kycillia Zabi's murder of Gihren, with Leon standing in for him. One good shot through the skull... Too bad Macross has artificial gravity...

Whatever it is, I hope it gets A LOT of screentime...

Back to the topic, though...you know who else I always felt bad for? That soldier in the Zentradi Rain of Death who jumps on the little girl to protect her. Doomed, doomed, doomed...but ya gotta admire his attempt.

And all the harmless little Big Zams... And we don't know the ultimate fate of the Island-3 hippocows...

And if, as you conjecture, it's selling as much if not more than Gundam 00, then I'm guessing we'll see more Macross sooner rather than later...

You know...I never thought about that before. Poor fishy... Although I have to admit that I always felt bad for the Orguss-dinosaur-looking things on Rax. Gamlin, Mylene, and Basara work so hard not to hurt them, and then the planet just gets blown up. Tragic, huh...?

You're right, of course, about dubs being necessary. But I think anime already has hit the mainstream. Stores like Best Buy have large anime sections, most book stores have manga sections, and millions of kids all over the world love Pikachu, Son Goku, and Naruto. Spirited Away even won an Oscar, after all. All of that would have been unthinkable when I first got into anime in the '80s. I'd like to think that we all understand that dubs will always be necessary and more popular...I took the opening question to be about personal viewing preference, in which case I want it subbed and uncut. Not that that's surprising, of course...this is Macrossworld. If we weren't hardcore about anime purity, most of us never would have moved beyond Robotech.

You should watch the whole series before you judge...much like Sheryl, he's MEANT to get on your nerves at the beginning. Unfortunately, it takes A LOT longer before he gets less annoying, and some people never get through the eye of that needle... Morte generally (i.e. not directed at MisaForsworn), I have to say that although I like Sheryl more, the "Ranka hate" seems overblown and bizarre to me. She may or may not get Alto, but IMHO, to criticize her actions in this episode shows a lack of understanding of what the point of this (and every) Macross series is.

I doubt it will end badly, too...but you never know... We're still buds, right? Right...? Back on topic...I'd LOVE to see a big surge of Macross Fever sweep Japan (and the west); it could happen, as long as Bandai is as canny in capitalizing on Macross as they have been on Gundam. I hope there's a way they can do it that doesn't involve cranking out a new Macross series every year... (What am I saying? of course there is! Look at Evangelion, after all...)

Hmmm...I'm with Mr. March with this. In anime, very few bad endings have soured me on the whole series, but Escaflowne was one that did. If the ending of Frontier ends up being REALLY dumb, then I may be annoyed enough to write off the whole series. It would have to be SPECTACULARLY dumb for that to happen, though...we're talking Leon and Sheryl being the only survivors, falling in love, and going back in time to become the progenitors of the Protoculture, or something like that.

To be fair, she did spend the night with him, and he didn't hear Sharon say "I love Guld, but I love Isamu even more." Although I think that once his memories came back, he had enough awareness to realize she would never come back to him...so why not die protecting her? That way, he could redeem himself in her eyes and go down knowing that his death would have meaning for the people he loved the most, and had hurt the deepest. It's pure, classic chivalry.

Hell, I don't even care if it was "planned all along." If they started preparing for it even four months ago, I'll still welcome it. Failing that, as others have said, I'd love to see a movie edition or an OVA, especially if it tells a follow-up story, rather than just a retelling of the series. Of course, that's assuming that that the ending will be open enough to enable a sequel...

Well...just because the show's ending doesn't mean the fanbase will instantly move on. And with the DVDs coming out, more and more people will get exposed to the show. Several shows (First Gundam, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop...there may be others) didn't get their popularity until after the televised run had finished. They'll find ways to promote the upcoming events/products, and there will be a receptive audience for them.

Meh. It was a big issue back in the day, since subbed tapes were more expensive. Now we can all relax and discuss the issue calmly... Maybe.

Y'know...as good as these look (and I think they look very good), I wish Hasegawa would come out with something new...either a VF-1 gerwalk, or a VF-11...hell, even Basara's VF-19 would be welcome at this point...

It also could just be a holographic bow, like Sheryl's stage outfits, or the "Super Room" in DYRL...

Someone quoted Kawamori (from a recent interview or from the MF DVD commentary, I'm not sure which) as saying that there's at least some leeway in story creation, and that "Legend of Zero" wasn't originally part of the plan. That said, I would guess that the ending was plotted out in advance. I think whether it will feel rushed or not largely depends on what happens with Ranka next episode.

Still...if every dub were as good as even the worst of the Disney Miyazaki films, I'd feel much better about dubs on the whole.

Wow. Clearly, Ranka is going to become the solution to the problem, and you would take that away from them? One way or another, if Ranka didn't go, Frontier would be doomed. Either they WON'T be able to wipe out the Vajra, or there will be some compelling reason why they SHOULDN'T. As for showing Ai-kun to Alto, I think the desire to say goodbye (possibly for the last time) to someone you love is an understandable one. Ditto the hope that that loved one will understand and accept your actions.

I like subs better for two reasons... First, I think Japanese voice actors are generally better (although that may be just because I'm used to hearing Japanese voice with anime images). Second, it's easier to check the accuracy of the translation. But thankfully, thanks to DVDs, we no longer have to choose...remember when MacPlus was out on VHS and it was fifteen bucks for the dub but twenty-five for the sub? Man, I hated that...
