It reminds me of the Tale of Genji more than it does Oedipus...where Prince Genji's mother died when he was young, and his father takes a new, very young wife who everyone says looks just like her. Genji, understandably, becomes fascinated by her. Okay, maybe it's not the same situation, but the emotions evoked in the protagonist seem similar.

I say he'll end up with no one, but that's mostly because I'm not strongly attached to either outcome. I agree that he's been gravitating more and more towards Sheryl...but that just makes me think that it probably WON'T happen.

Funny you should mention this, since I'm currently listening to MacZero O.S.T. 2, and "Macross Track" started just as I saw the title for this thread... Although I'm usually against updating and futzing with the old stuff, I admit that it would be fun to see some fights "re-enacted" in CGI...but only if they got Itano to do the choreography. And since Mac7 had, overall, the most disappointing mecha battles, I'd like to see something from that...make the Fire Valkyrie look as good as it does in the OP, and let's see Gamlin go all Machida on the Varauta Army. And if they could throw in Max and Millia in their VF-22s, that'd be even better.

Enh, I don't think it's going to change much. If we'd had the first poll before "Star Date" aired, then we might have seen some major fluctuations between the first and second polls, but as it is, it seems that every poll turns out the same way...Sheryl first, Klan second, Ranka third, and everyone else with a smattering of votes. It seems like everyone picked their favorites early, and have stuck by them for the long haul. At least, I know I did.

I don't think she's just "communicating" with them...they ARE her consciousness. The conversation at the beginning of episode 15 is rather slippery and ambiguous, but the fact that all of the "Galaxy Anonymous" voices were saying her lines from episode 13, and that they were trying to decide who should be the dominant "voice" of Grace II leads me to believe that all of them participate in operating the puppet body. But it did seem that one of the Galaxy Anonymous voices was the REAL Grace O'Connor. At least, that's what I got out of it...

Maybe their adopted older brother pulled a lot of strings to get them into an elite girl's school, and if the school knew they were dancing on the internet, they'd get expelled. Conversely, maybe they just don't want to end up like the Star Wars Kid...could you imagine showing up to school, and for MONTHS, hearing nothing from your classmates but "Kira!" Brrr....

Just found this one... The thing I love out this one is their expressions...especially Alto's. You can totally tell that he's thinking, "Jeez, how long do I have to put up with these two chicks? Can't they just leave me alone?"

Clever. Very. Especially if it was unintentional. That said...I really, REALLY think that most if not all of the "good guy" characters are going to survive. Because it'll make it that much more shocking to me if they don't...

Y...you mean...it's NOT all about me...? And about that VF-1J...if it's the DYRL version...well, what can they do? The Armored version showed up for all of two seconds, looking no different than Hikaru's Armored Valk. So yeah...Super Valk is probably it.

I think maybe I wasn't quite clear...I understand how to put it all together. But it wasn't until the second issue that I really realized how to put it all together. That's also when I realized what a colossal project this is, and that even if it only runs fifty issues, that's still a hell of a lot of information. And I notice there's ANOTHER VF-1J sheet with issue 5...they've done Hikaru, Max, Millia, and Cannon Fodder varants...what's left?

It is kind of a confusing way to do it, and I didn't really know what they were going for until I got the second issue. As for series order, although they show DYRL and II at the end of the series list (and yes, as you suggest, it's because neither of them really "happened"), I like to have the Mechanical, Character, and Song sections in production order. The other sections are fine in chronological order (for me, at least). And yeah, I think the reason the numbering (and lettering) is so confusing is be more flexible over the next couple of years...but think about it. If there's another Macross series, movie, or OVA coming out before Macross Chronicle is finished, they're screwed (unless it's, say, a Frontier compilation movie or something).

That's not just a porn cliche...check out the bookstore girl in The Big Sleep or Sharon Tate in The Wrecking Crew (who is BAR NONE the finest "librarian who takes off her glasses and becomes a sex bomb" in all of world cinema), to cite only two examples. That said, most of them don't turn out to be completely and utterly evil, and most of them don't end up having tentacles, either.

Man...this is one that I really wanted to see back in the day (I made the model kits of the jeep and the helicopter), and yet now...I don't have much interest in watching it. I guess people really do change, huh?

That's a fair point...but I think trying to figure out exactly how the head lasers on a VF-1S are controlled isn't much different than trying to understand how the Guitar Control Stick is used...although I'm sure a lot of the nuts'n'bolts mecha guys here would disagree. Tangentally, though, your post makes me wonder. Most people (here at any rate) watched Macross 7 because of its connection to SDFM. And we've seen recently that some people who are getting into Frontier first are going back and watching the other Macross stories for the first time. I wonder how many people became SDFM fans because they saw and loved Macross 7, and wanted to see what happened before? How much did it build up the fan base? Did they ever say what the objective was...? I don't think they ever said how Ray even got the damn thing in the first place (apart from some vague "He had connections because he was in the Pink Pecker Squadron" excuse). I like Macross 7, but it's not strong on the hows and whys of almost anything in the backstory.
