  1. That's a REEEEEAAAAL good question... I was under the impression that there was no "actual Grace" anymore, merely a collective consciousness in a puppet body. That said, if her "operators" were stupid enough to all be in the same place at that same time, and that place happened to be Battle Galaxy...then yes, she's dead.
  2. Hey, even if it's a compilation film, I'm sure they'll use the best of the TV footage, and add a lot of even better stuff to it as well. No matter what the subject matter of the movie is, it'll be gorgeous to look at.
  3. Well...yeah, I think that it's possible they could futz with that. Although I think they shouldn't, because it might cause Duke Togo to split open and spew out twenty gallons of highly pressurized blood, like a Hokuto no Ken character.
  4. I agree...you can love Frontier a lot, but still have to vote "no," just because SDFM is a tought act to follow.
  5. If they ever decide to do that, it had better be INCREDIBLY creepy. I always imagine the Protoculture to be almost Lovecraftian in their cyclopean towers with their weird and eldritch technology...
  6. Amazingly, there are no other polls (besides episode discussions) currently on the first page, so this one just might be spared the dreaded Lock of Azrael. Anyway, I voted for SDFM, just like everyone who doesn't vote for DYRL will.
  7. Oh, I have no problem with challenging convention...and I have to give you props for being on the "right" side of the WTF-1 discussion. But the FB2012-style Megaroad-01 was in the Chronicles' World Guide section, which doesn't include DYRL. So to say it has so far only been in the DYRL section isn't correct. The Queadluun-Rau has only shown up in the DYRL section...but I don't think anyone would argue that they've retconned the TV version out of existance...
  8. I don't believe I said that you hated the episode BECAUSE of the unresolved love triangle. That wasn't my intention, but I guess I can see why you thought that.
  9. This poll SHOULD say "Macross F: A great Macross series, or THE GREATEST Macross series?" I say it's great, but it can't quite overshadow the original. I *may* like it better than Plus, however...which is really saying something for me.
  10. I don't have a screenshot, but it's during the "In 2009, mankind encountered an alien race known as the Zentradi" narration that begins nearly every one of the first fourteen or so episodes. I'm not really sure why you're arguing for the Megaroad design being changed, though. AFAIK, nothing has suggested that it's been changed...not Frontier, not the Chronicle, not the Remastered DVDs. Why do you think it may have been changed?
  11. I gave it a nine, but I'm still enjoying the afterglow from the final episode...if I had waited a few days, well...I still probably would've given it a nine. Whispo, I like your post. I enjoy hearing from people who got into Froniter first, and then went back and watched everything else. Makes me rather envious, in a way, since I had to wait for it all to come out in drips and drabs year by year. But yeah, as a longtime Macross fan, I adored the show. While I agree with Togo that it was at heart a simple story made convoluted, it never ceased to be interesting and inventive. Like a lot of people here (I believe) it initially hooked me with the cute homages, but I kind of stopped looking for them by about episode six, as I started to get involved with the story for its own sake. And that, for me, is key: even if it hadn't been a Macross show, I would've loved it. The fact that it extends one of my favorite anime sagas is just icing on the cake. The fact that (for the most part) the series looked gorgeous was nice, too. Some of the character animation was sub-par and a lot of scenes got re-used, but it never got to the point where it really bothered me. I thought the writing was quite good, and I disagree with others that the pacing seemed off. But one of the reasons I got into anime way back when was for the sheer oddness of it; by which I mean if you watch an old-school '80s show (especially without subs), there's always a bit that seems to come out of nowhere and go nowhere, leaving you scratching your head wondering what that was all about. (A favorite example from Megazone 23: Yui attempting to sleep her way to the top.) One of the reasons I've been less than enthusiastic about more recent anime is that a lot of that strangeness gets ironed out (or maybe it's just because my Japanese is better, so there's less confusion on my part)...well, Frontier brought the weirdness back in a big way...episode 15's sing-off, Klan with FAST Packs, The final song battle...it's all sublimely strange and wonderful. I look forward to the movie, and if (for whatever reason) Macross ends there, I'll still be satisfied.
  12. I predicted that the story would end with the power of love and song conquering all, and I was right. I also predicted that if Alto didn't end up with Sheryl, the few REALLY hardcore Sheryl shippers would bitch and moan and whine, and lo! It has come to pass.
  13. All right then...bring on the gekijouban! And for everyone who thinks that the movie will resolve the love triangle, I have two words and a number for you: Macross Dynamite 7. I'm still on a super high from this episode... Dude. You cannot be serious. Worst ending ever...? Unsuccessful Sheryl-shipper is unsuccessful.
  14. I just finished watching the episode a couple of minutes ago (in other words, I haven't read all the comments here yet), but HOT DAMN, was that ever awesome! I actually started tearing up a bit towards the end (strange, I know)...but then burst out laughing at the "Macross Attack." Anyway, it's been quite a ride, and I'm happy with where the story ended. Even if we never see Alto, Ranka, and Sheryl again...I'm satisfied. 'Course, if they want to give us more...I wouldn't say no.
  15. BOMBAA!! Yeah...this episode seemed to bring out the Fire Bomber fan in all of us...and yes, completely cathartic in terms of pineapples and battle.
  16. According to Macross Chronicle (and, I believe, Macross Perfect Memory) Max and Milia's wedding fighter was indeed supposed to be a VF-1D (not that you'd know from the crappy animation in that episode... ) As for the new paint schemes, they look great. And of course I'll buy them, because I keep thinking if I through enough money at Hasegawa Macross models, they'll make a Gerwalk or a VF-11 or a VF-4. Yes, I live in a fantasy world.
  17. Again, I think saying that the Macross Chronicles might be pointing towards a design change when they have no entry yet about the design in question...well, seems like jumping the gun a bit. There's nothing so far in the magazine that even hints that the Megaroad-01 has been relegated to only the DYRL continuity.
  18. I understand the fighter progression issues, but I don't understand why the setting would invalidate it. And just because no one in Macross II mentions the emigration programs doesn't mean they don't exist, right? No one mentions Protoculture in Macross Plus, but we still assume it exists there. But that's all nit-picking. I'm not one to strenuously argue for Macross II's inclusion in the canon. It's interesting, it's decent, but it's not necessary for an understanding of the Macross universe (although a similar argument could be made for Dynamite 7, I suppose...)
  19. I believe that may be right, since I think I remember reading (in the Animeigo liner notes...?) that Global Report and Phantasm were listed as episodes 13.5 and 16.5, respectively. Can someone back me up on this...? EDIT: Ninja'd by Azrael...who manages the neat trick of backing me up before I've even asked for back-up. Now THAT'S helpfulness!
  20. Was it this post, perhaps...? (And yes, there's a search button at the top of the screen. Conversely, you can search through all of your posts (or anyone's) by clicking on their name.)
  21. As I've said before, I hope they give us SOMETHING on Feb. 7, 2009...since that's the date of the beginning of Space War I... But I'm not picky...an "All That VF" DVD, "Macross Flashback 2059," a "Bobby Margot Sings Lynn Minmay" album, "Macross Dynamite Furonfia"...anything would be fine.
  22. Turn-A Macross...? I never got that impression that the Mardook created the Zentradi either, which is why I was so shocked to see it mentioned before. But if Seto Kaiba is backing away from the assertion, then I guess I needn't let it get to me. So no, I guess there's not much that invalidates MacII in any really obvious way. But even so, as others have said, who cares if it's canonical or not? "Macross Canon" doesn't seem to hamper any of the creators, so it probably shouldn't hamper us.
  23. Hey, the Fifth Anniversary release was just a bunch of music videos, the Tenth was only six episodes, the Fifteenth had a mere four episodes, and the Twentieth had only five, so twenty-five sounds pretty good to me.
  24. No, it's in the World Guide Sheet on the Emigration Fleets, too. And of course the Megaroad-01 is only listed on the DYRL-version Macross sheet...we don't have TV-version Macross or Megaroad-01 sheets yet. Using Chronicle as a definitive resource is fine, but it's a little early in its publication history to start talking about what it's excluding.
  25. I'm not sure, even after reading Seto Kaiba's response several times. Seto, would it be possible to give some specifics?
