  1. Most likely...but still, the presumably adorable Galaxy Bridge bunnies probably got fried.
  2. Very good points. Even Sheryl, at the beginning of the show, was serving herself rather than any higher cause. But she took to it quite quickly...unlike Alto's father, and even he showed generosity at the end. EDIT: For some reason, I'm also reminded of the flashback scene in the MacPlus movie, with Isamu, Myung, and Guld all holding hands and playing with the pterosaur feather...true togetherness and love. Of course! Kawamori must've just forgotten to put that scene in... C'mon, man...EMBRACE AMBIGUITY!
  3. Oh, I'm sure the topic will be addressed in the Macross Chronicle. It may already have been on the "Long Range Emigration Fleet" page. I guess I'll find out, since my goal for today is to actually get off my duff and translate that page...
  4. BOMBAA!! Oh...wait...a 2 isn't good, is it...?
  5. Which just goes to show that the President (or whatever they have) of Macross Galaxy isn't an idiot...unlike some would-be usurpers with foo-foo haircuts I could mention... (You know, when Frontier first started, I kept referring to Leon as "the guy with the foo-foo haircut" in the hope that it would catch on, but it never seemed to. Still, I was rather shocked later in the series when Leon referred to the VF-27 as a "Foo Fighter." Complete coincidence, I know...but a rather neat one.)
  6. Same way he plays that damn harmonica, obviously.
  7. So wait...do you think that nothing happened, or that too much happened too quickly? I don't agree with either assessment, but I can understand why many would agree with the latter. The former makes no sense to me, unless it's referring exclusively to the love triangle.
  8. Can't we just keep calling it the WTF-1...?
  9. Because you've never heard them all the way through before...? Yeah, nothing happened...apart from us finding out what the Vajra actually are, what the Birdman connection is, where Galaxy has been hiding, how Grace planned to implement her takeover, how Leon got brought down, where "Aimo" came from, whether Brera could break Grace's hold on him, how Sheryl could survive, and who Bilra was waiting for. Other than that, nothing happened. And both of those were fine endings. So, IMHO, was this.
  10. ...which suddenly explains why that Vajra sniped by Michael in episode 3 didn't die! Yeah...I'm a little slow...
  11. And often using the same scriptwriter who wrote MacII...
  12. No no NO!! If you listen to Alto, you'll end up wrecking at least three of your 1/60s before you get the transformation right, and those things are expensive!
  13. Well...to be fair, the stakes ARE higher in SDFM. We're talking about the extinction of all life on earth, after all. And Global quite rightly acts to make sure that the stakes are never that high again. Macross 7 of course tries to do SDFM one better with the "Spiritia Black Hole" that will absorb the entire galaxy, but let's face it...you can't keep upping the ante continually like that without getting ridiculous after a while, and no matter how big you make the scale of the threat, Ideon will always trump you.
  14. True, but the same page also says that Megaroad is the first class of Long Range Emigration Ships, and that the Island CLuster type is the Fifth. That leaves two types unaccounted for. So it's quite possible that Galaxy is one of them...or they could simply be things we haven't seen yet (and may never see).
  15. If it's a condensed re-telling, I'd rather have them do two or three movies instead of one. Or else rework the whole story á la DYRL or the Escaflowne movie. But if it is a compilation movie, and if it does use footage from the TV show, and if it is confined to one film (and that's a lot of "if"s)...I think they should cut most of the early episodes and pick up the story after they leave Gallia IV. I'm not sure if it would work, but I think it's better than trying to fit the whole show into ninety minutes or two hours.
  16. Please guys, tell me you're just doing a parody of Animesuki-style shippers... The love triangle was left open-ended...and you can probably find "hints" to prove any damn thing you want to prove. I could probably demonstrate that Alto chose Klan if I set my mind to it...
  17. I didn't. I was POSITIVE it was the SDF-1. The airing date of episode 13 marked the day I officially swore off speculating on Frontier's plot.
  18. I don't know about newer fans, but I used to rag on Macross II, well, because it was first. After all the glory of SDFM and DYRL and FB2012 (which, in 1987, I thought was the prelude to a new series, not the coda to the old)...I wait five years and get, with much fanfare, something that happens 80 years after DYRL and has no characters I know or care about. I watched the first two videotapes (four episodes) and never bothered to see the last one. A couple years later, one of my friends called Macross Plus a must-see. I was doubtful, but checked it out and was (of course) blown away. But the bad aftertaste of Macross II hung around for a while, and it wasn't until I reexamined it recently that I grew to like it. I'd still probably call it my least favorite, though. And it has nothing to do with Kawamori not being involved...I just wasn't impressed with it at the time, and it took almost ten years for me to go back and watch it again.
  19. I don't want to vote yet, because I know I'd vote for the final episode... I'm also heavily leaning towards episodes 12 and 20, but there's a perverse part of me that wants to vote for 15.
  20. I hate to say it after you did all that work, but...the starmap is symbolic, not an accurate indicator of flightpaths...
  21. Ugh...please don't start this again; we hashed through it before and it was painful, painful, painful... Our conclusions then: Everything pre-Frontier is "new U.N. Forces" (統合軍) with a small "n." Frontier has the "New U.N. Forces" (新統合軍) with a big "N."
  22. Ah, but who's gonna die in the MOVIE? If it's a completely new story, I say Brera and some new character we haven't met yet. If it's a compilation movie, then I say Michael and Grace.
  23. God, no...I can see it now: Macross F Part II: The Return of Grace Macross F Part III: The Death of Grace Macross F Part IV: Grace Lives! Macross F Part V: Grace: The Final Chapter Macross F Part VI: Grace: A New Beginning And so and so forth...
  24. Do we know that Galaxy is a fourth gen, or is that just speculation?
  25. Let's face it...Yoko Kanno is currently the best in the business, and has been for some time now. It says something when to find any anime music equal to Frontier, you have to go to other Kanno productions (although a case could be made for the Akira soundtrack, I suppose). That said, Gundam these days has been getting pretty good OP and ED music, but the overall soundtracks aren't as good. So while I'll take "Ash Like Snow" over "Triangler" any day, I bought the single of the former, and the album with the latter.
