Character Sheet Macross F: Citizen 03A: Sheryl Nome Page One The COOL BEAUTY who has been dubbed "The Galactic Fairy!" PERSONAL DATA Status - Civilian Sex - Female Birthplace - Galaxy Fleet A 17-year-old girl from the Galaxy Fleet, Sheryl is the incredibly popular recording artist known as the "Galactic Fairy." She has never received the technology known as "Implants" (which are widespread on Galaxy), making her something of a rarity. She is the current top idol, having spent a record-breaking 17 weeks at the #1 spot on the galactic chart. She was struck with misfortune, though, when the Vajra attacked the Frontier Fleet during the final show of her galactic tour there. Soon after, all communications with the Galaxy Fleet abruptly ceased, and Sheryl was forced to stay with Frontier Fleet after the end of her tour. It is said that after this, she got wrapped up in a love triangle with the "Super Dimension Cinderella," Ranka Lee (who Sheryl had become acquainted with both in public and private) and S.M.S. pilot Alto Saotome. Always overflowing with confidence and arrogant in her words and actions (even in private), it is still rumored that before her debut, she lived a life of dire poverty. Perhaps because of this, singing with the mind of a pro and an upfront sense of pride, her attitude and beauty, both physical and vocal, continue to entrance countless people throughout the galaxy. [Picture Caption] Striving for the top in all things has led to Sheryl perhaps havng a little too much self-confidence. Her haughty manner can make her seem something of a little demon. [Picture Caption] Despite her elegant appearance, Sheryl is determined in her thinking. She will work to turn a loss into a win no matter how many times she has to try. Page Two Character Episode 01 - The Frontier Concert Due to the grandstanding of Altyo, a member of the flight team, an accident happened to Sheryl on stage. Although she was angry, she used her quick wit to reverse the situation and entrance the audience with her courage. Later, the same concert was cancelled during the performance because of the Vajra attack. [Picture Caption] In spite of the accident, Sheryl still brought the performance to a grand climax. This was Sheryl and Alto's first meeting. Character Episode 02 - Meeting Ranka The day after the Vajra attack, Sheryl realized that she had lost one of her earrings. The concert video gave her a clue as to their whereabouts, and she placed a request to the military to meet with Alto at his residence. However, realizing that the request would go nowhere, she struck out into the city on her own (after leaving a message for her manager, Grace), where she met Ranka, who was singing one of Sheryl's own songs. Ranka, who was a big Sheryl fan and wanted to be a singer, made a good impression on Sheryl, and Sheryl revealed her own identity by singing. [Picture Caption] After getting lost, Sheryl heard a singing girl pass by. This girl was Ranka before her debut. [Picture Caption] Sheryl looking at Ranka with kindness in her eyes. At that time, she never dreamed that Ranka would one day become her main rival. Character Episode 03 - The Shelter Incident While Sheryl was chatting with Ranka, the man she had been looking for, Alto, coincidentally arrived. However, at that time, the Vajra attacked the Frontier Fleet again, and the trio quickly escaped to a shelter. Finally, they were saved due to Grace's quick thinking, but Sheryl showed her determination of spirit in an escape attempt. [Picture Caption] In the shelter, Alto quite accidentally saw Sheryl naked, which enraged her. The two ended up having their first violent argument. [Picture Caption - six shots of Sheryl's face] Sheryl's slender, regular features are suited well to the words "beautiful woman." One the one hand, her appearance looks likes innocence in full bloom, but on the other her words and actions can be alarmingly blunt. Perhaps the gap between them is one part of her charm. [Picture Caption - full body shot] The outfit Sheryl wore when entering her dressing room before the Froniter Tenkumon Hall concert. The beret, the one-piece that gives an impression of being a long dress, and the boots together have an atmosphere of being neat and smart, but also active. [inset] Sheryl's Earrings The teardrop-style earrings that Sheryl wears. The violet jewel is an unknown crystal called "Fold Quartz." While it is said that Fold Quartz makes possible a leap forward in Fold Navigations and Communications, its connection to the Vajra must also be pointed out. The ones Sheryl has are extremely important to her, and when she lost one of them, she hurriedly checked the concert video to confirm that it had ended up in Alto's hands. Moreover, she went searching around the city for him in spite of her tight schedule. Later, when at the end of Sheryl's next encounter with Alto, she absent-mindedly forgot to mention the earring, but Alto (who was being interested in Sheryl) used it as an excuse for going to see her again. [Picture Caption] Sheryl has long hair, but to show off her earrings, she often styles her hair so that her right ear is visible.

Yeah, watching Audrey Hepburn looking gorgeous is certainly a chore, isn't it?

This is the second time you've mentioned this...what are you talking about? The Basara/Elma duets from Radio Fire? Because, if so, it's not a Basara wannabe...it's the man himself.

Oh, there are definitely a lot of things left unresolved. I'm not sure you could make a whole movie out of wrapping up loose ends though. Then again, that's basically what The End of Evangelion (which I love) was, so I could be wrong.

Cool. Every little bit helps, as the old woman said as she pissed in the sea. Too true...and it's something I often forget. I tend to be a perfectionist with stuff like this...I want it to come out perfect and complete the first time. Which of course never happens. So thanks for the reminder. Of course, I could just be a real jerk about it and translate only the Basara and Ranka sheets, and then do nothing else until they decide to print something about Kaifun. Azrael has asked me one or two Chronicle questions, to double check his work. So I think the Compendium is including a lot of the new information (such as the fact the OTEC joined with a few other companies and became General Galaxy). Unfortunately, he also found what appears to be a big flub, in that the Timeline Sheet says work started on the Variable Fighters in 2002, but the Technology Sheet says it started in 2001. I think the 2001 is a misprint, but then we go back to Sketchley's rule about mistake-that-might-not-be-mistakes.

I have translated very little, but I've looked closely at a lot of the pages with an eye to translating them. Currently, my major interests: The Timeline Sheets The Sharon Apple, Shao Pai Long, and Minmay Debut History Sheets The Protodeviln World Guide Sheet SDFM and F Character Sheets Minor interests: M7 Character Sheets The Making Sheets The Song Sheets (I can probably bang those out in a weekend). Looks like our interests fit together nicely, doesn't it? At least we won't be fighting over who does what...

Well...the first post is what we need. The links are in the next three posts (the "Table of Contents," as it were). Look for "Lynn Minmay" in blue. That's the link. As more people (at least, I hope it won't be Sketchley and I doing the whole thing...) put entries in here, I'll link to them from the Table of Contents, and I'll also update the Contents every other week (probably on Fridays, since that's usually when I get my issues).

I'm linking each translation entry to the table of contents (i.e. the first four entries in the thread) so that it will be easier for people to find what they want. Since I'm doing that, it's unlikely that people will get confused or lost in the thread, so fire away (as long as it abides by Sketchley's "Rules for Readers"). (Not sure what there is to say, though...nothing in the Minmay sheet seems terribly revelatory...)

Character Sheet Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Citizen Sheet 01a: Lynn Minmay In closed surroundings, the IDOL OF THE NEW GENERATION was born! PERSONAL DATA STATUS: Civilian SEX: Female BIRTHPLACE: Japan The legendary singer who is called "The Galactic Empress of Song." Originally, she was well-known to the general populace in the civilian quarters of the Macross only as the poster girl for the Chinese Restaurant Nyan-Nyan. But after winning the ship-wide "Miss Macross Contest" and beginning her singing career, she became an oasis in the hearts of the citizens of the Macross, who had to show such strength in their long time on board the ship. Furthermore, when her voice reached the ears of the Zentradi soldiers, they had such an intense reaction that it has become commonplace to say that the Bodol main Fleet was destroyed by the power of her songs. In her world tour after the end of Space War I, she gave courage to the many people still suffering during the Reconstruction. Still, during this time, it is said that she privately considered retiring from singing because of romantic problems with Hikaru ichijo, her close friend in the military. [Picture Caption - being crowned Miss Macross] Although she was at first just another refugee on the Macross, when she won the Miss Macross Contest (an event celebrating the opening of the civilian broadcast network), she acheived her dream of debuting as a pro. [Picture caption - Ep. 27 concert] Minmay's singing had a tremendous effect on the Zentradi soldiers, and the shipboard idol broke through all boundaries. During the final battle with the Bodol Main Fleet, humanity was victorious literally because of her singing. Character Episode 01 - Meeting Hikaru Before the Macross Launching Ceremony, Minmay came to South Ataria Island to vacation with her Aunt and Uncle, who owned a Chinese Restaurant there. But when Britai's Fleet arrived, she was swept away to a new threat. She was doing nothing when a U.N. Spacy VF-1D suddenly fell and half-demolished her family's shop. The pilot who had boarded the military plane was (at that time) a civilian: Hikaru Ichijo. The two exchanged their first words togetherand Minmay got the impression that Hikaru was "a nice guy." Later, once she reached refugee shelter, she realized that she had left behind a notice that she had qualified for an audition. She went to get it, but encountered a Zentradi Reguld. But Hikaru's VF-1D and Roy Focker's VF-1J* dashed in and rescued her without her coming to any harm. Yet, during mid-air combat, the left arm of the VF-1D (which was protecting her) broke off. Minmay valiantly swam through the air, and was pulled safely into the fighter by a hair's breadth. Buty even here, she didn't know what lay in store. [Picture caption - Minmay in the VF-1D, twirling her hair and looking thoughtful] Swimming in mid-air during a battle like some kind of circus performer, Minmay lost one of her nine lives that day. Immediately after, she fell into a state of panic, not over her safety, but over her disheveled hair. Character Episode 02 - Escape from the Macross As soon as they were safely inside the Macross, Minmay and Hikaru leave the ship in Hikaru's fan racer. Hikaru wants to leave not only for his own sake, but because he had originally told Minmay that he would get her back safely to her Uncle's. [Picture Caption - Minmay and Hikaru in the fan racer, in space] When they try to leave the Macross, it executes a space fold, stranding the fan racer in outer space. Hikaru is impatient, but Minmay is entranced by the beauty of the stars. Character Episode 03 - Survival for Just Two People Somehow, the duo gets back inside the ship, but they find themselves shut inside an uninhabited, closed-off section. While looking for an escape route, they create a makeshift shower, and although she's worried that Hikaru might be watching, Minmay shows that she's gradually beginning to trust him. [Picture Caption - Minmay in the shower] Minmay in the shower that Hikaru hastily made. Immediately before this scene, she deliberately shreiked in order to tease him, a practical joke which shows the side of her that really likes him. [Fashion Picture Captions] [Picture 1: Minmay's dress from episodes 1 to 4] The outfit she wore on the day of the Macross Launching Ceremony. The short-sleeved, one-piece dress with the long-sleeved turtleneck blouse gives it a layered style. [Picture 2: the shirt from episode 4] Clothes from the survival time in the closed-off section of the Macross. A work-shirt that Hikaru had left in the fan racer. [Picture 3: from episode 8] The pajamas that Minmay was wearing on the night of her birthday. It's just cream-colored cloth, but the heart marks (and the arrow going through them) on the pockets give it a love-filled feeling. [Picture 4: the pink "Mr. Lingerie" dress] A cute one-piece with a somewhat large collar. The dress that Minmay wore in the Miss Macross Contest, she bought it with Hikaru in a boutique on board the Macross. [Picture 5: Minmay with Hikaru's helmet] The U.N. Spacy helmet Minmay wore in the fan racer because hikaru ordered her to. It's a little bit big for her. [Picture 6: Minmay in the shower] During the survival period. Minmay in the shower that Hikaru made. Even after getting wet, the little curls in her hair still "keep." [Picture 7: Minmay with a handkerchief on her head] This is also from the survival time in the closed-off section of the Macross. For the make-believe wedding with Hikaru, she made a veil out of his handkerchief. *Gubaba here. Okay...I'm abiding by Sketchley's rule (which I think is a good one) to translate what the Chronicle actually says rather than what we would expect it to say. But still...this is obviously an error. Focker has a VF-1S, not a 1J. [Whew...that was...um...less than edifying, wasn't it? I think I'll stay away from Minmay's "B" page for a bit, but I'm not sure what I'm going to tackle next. It'll either be Sheryl, or the Timeline, or one of the History pages (either Sharon Apple or Shao Pai Long).]

A few of us have been rumbling about how a lot of the information in Macross Chronicle should be translated and posted here. Now, some of us know some japanese, and a lot of us are getting the Chronicle, so Mr March suggested that we all pool our efforts and post them here. Obviously, some sections are going to be more prized than others, but if. say, you REALLY, REALLY want to translate the section on the Macross Frontier Trading Cards instead of the Variable Fighter Technology Sheeets, that's fine. It's all welcome. But please, no partial translations. One sheet (i.e. both sides of a page) per entry. It makes it easier to link to. For example, if you're burning to translate the Mylene pages, do sheet 02a as one entry, 02b as another entry, and so on. LINKS WILL BE PLACED HERE AND IN THE NEXT ENTRIES (the "Table of Contents"). Some of the writing gets awfully flowery ("It's the second age of the Great Ships, but this time, the ocean is the sea of stars" and stuff like that), not to mention very technical, with a lot of unusual sci-fi terms. Probably. "Saotome," after all, means "young girl," and I shouldn't have to tell you what an "alto" is, in terms of singing. I'm pretty sure that's what his name signifies.

But as a last little bit on my part, does anyone know where to go to get the KNOWN FACTS on the case (since everything I've seen has huge dollops of speculation, either pro- or anti-Big West, thrown in as well)?

You know, I agree with you. It's not like that. From my understanding of the situation (which is spotty at best...as is everybody's, considering that so much of this hasn't been made public) is that Harmony Gold has asserted rights to SDFM and all its sequels, whether or not Tatsunoko had any hand in them, but they won't show the contract to anyone. Which means that Big West was outside its rights to work with U.S. Renditions (for MacII) and Manga Entertainment (for Plus...and later MacII). In other words, they are claiming that Big West worked with other companies in bad faith and in violation of their contract. So it's like giving your Kiss CDs to one friend, and later giving your Black Sabbath CDs to another. Then the first friend pipes up and says, "You agreed to give me your Sabbath collection, too. So you're a liar." You're puzzled, Friend #2 is puzzled, and so you ask Friend #1 for the proof. he says that he has it, but he won't show you. Friend #2 begins to think this may be more trouble than it's worth, and word gets around. At that point, Friend #1 says, "See? Now if you want to get rid of your CDs, you HAVE to give them to me."
