  1. Well, duh. If he had one, would he really have taken TWO FRICKIN' YEARS to pick Misa...?
  2. Agreed. Say what you will about Zero (I loved it, but I seem to love almost anything Macross), you can really sense Itano making it all as crazy and fast as possible in order to top himself...and succeeding magnificently.
  3. I wonder if they're really MacF-related, or if the proprieters are just pervs...
  4. Definitely...I plowed my way through all 23 volumes of Area 88 a few years ago (reading, not translating) out of sheer bloody-mindedness. I doubt I would've been able to do the same with something I didn't like as much...indeed, I tried to read some other, much shorter series later, and got nowhere.
  5. Enh, I've only found one definite typo, and Azrael pointed out another possible one. Both are easily seen as mistakes, so I'm not too worried about anyone getting any misinformation. As for organization, I just have one binder currently, but I've ordered another one. Issues 1~10 are going in the first one, and issues 11~20 will go in the second, and then I'll combine the contents after issue 20 comes out. If I can keep my patience, that is...
  6. I just knew you'd say that... And hey...get well soon.
  7. Quiet, you, or I'll only translate the Mylene fashion parade and the explanation of Ranka's hair. Anyway, Sketchley seems to like doing the Technology sheets, so I'm happy to leave them to him. It looks like he and I might have to fight over certain History and World Guide sheets, but as long as I get to do the Jammingbirds page, I'm happy.
  8. Translating mecha stuff gives me hives...too many kanji that my dictionaries don't have (because, SURPRISE! they weren't expecting that anyone would have any need to find words relating to sci-fi military hardware). But glancing over the page in question, I notcied that they said that there are six CONFIRMED Macross Cannons...so there might be more (maybe guarding emigration fleets? Who here wants to see the Battle Frontier vs. Battle Galaxy boxing match re-enacted with Macross Cannons? ) Actually, the Macross II Warships page looks relatively do-able (as opposed to, say, the endless VF-1J pages), so I might get around to it. It's not high on my list of stuff to translate from Chronicle, however, so you may have to wait a while. Sorry.
  9. It'd be nice, wouldn't it? Quite frankly, the only reason I'm translating it is because I really, really want to read it, and this seems to be the only way to do so. In the future, though, I may stay away from the character pages, since they don't seem to be telling us anything we don't already know. World Guide, History, and Timeline seem to be where the real action is. That said, the first article I imported from the old Macross Compendium to the new one was Minmay, so I wanted the first page of the Chronicle that I translated to be Minmay as well. And I did Sheryl just because I was worried that someone else would grab her before I got there. And, of course, you can bet that when they get around to doing the Nanase pages, that will take priority over whatever else I happen to be working on. And this afternoon, I sat down and skimmed the World Guide Zentradi page, and it doesn't seem too tough. I hope it'll take me less than a week to do. (And I've still got to finish the Nyan Tra liner notes...and Miss DJ...and Macross Love (which not difficult, but rather tedious) and, of course, the prologue to Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences continues to thoroughly kick my butt.)
  10. Okay, someone turn Sheryl over; she's done (until the publishers of Macross Chronicle see fit to present us with her "B" page, that is). Next up: No question about it, I'm doing the Zentradi World Guide Sheet. After that, I might do the Protodeviln World Guide Sheet, one of the History Sheets (Minmay or Sharon Apple), or start in on the Timeline Sheets. Or I could just be a jerk about it by translating the Basara pages and then calling it quits.
  11. I'm still not following. What does this have to do with my comments on SDFM vs. DYRL...?
  12. Dude...you're seriously missing out. Macross Chronicle is the most awesome thing since sliced canned bread.
  13. I'm not following...
  14. Massive stone monuments have been built in honor of lesser ideas than this. You are a shining light of creativity in a land of unreason. No, just buying a bunch of them and stacking them up in my kitchen when I finish them...just like I did in college with beer bottles. Actually, I don't really need Nanase milk. I'd be happier with Nanase tuna buns.
  15. Well...there was also Alto getting a beaver shot in the hospital, but that was more "comedic embarrassment" than "sexualization." In other words, I too see very little sexualization of Ranka. Unless you get turned on when girls in tight spacesuits feel the urge to poop. (Lord knows, SOMEBODY in the world has to have that fetish...)
  16. Actually, the "the truth is inbetween" excuse came before the "movie within a movie" excuse, so I'm not sure your idea really works. Personally, I think it's not worth worrying about...it's all fiction, so does it really matter which one is more "valid"? I mean, if you've seen both SDFM and DYRL, you know everything that allows you to enjoy the sequels. I don't really think its an issue worth worrying about. That said, Macross Chronicle DEFINITELY falls of the side of SDFM "happening" and DYRL "just" being a movie. So if you really need an answer, there it is. It's unsatisfactory, and raises a lot of unanswered questions, but that's what the magazine says. And the magazine is official and canonical.
  17. Dude...it's an anime forum. What do you expect?
  18. True dat. I bought a number of bags of Evangelion Doritos for no reason other than the fact that they had the NERV logo on them.
  19. When you do, you'll notice that the Nyan Nyan Service Medley IS the music from episode 25.
  20. The way you said that, I'd think you haven't seen the final episode ENOUGH TIMES. Or you haven't listen to the album enough. Would I be right?
  21. DEFINITELY Chinese. There's an ad for "Shao Pai Long" on the Miss D.J. album that has a snippet of dialogue from the film...and it's in Chinese.
  22. I think the big problem with translating Japanese to English in music is the incredible amount of syllables you have to add to fill out the lyrics, since it generally takes longer to say something in Japanese than it does in English...which leaves the English versions seeming rather flabby and unnatural. But yeah, Fire Bomber American had the added problem of having singers that sounded nothing like the Yoshiki Fukuyama and Chie Kajiura, and were singing songs unsuited to their styles. It still find it amazing how great Melodie Sextion (he "Fake Mylene") sounds on "Information High" compared to how awful she sounds on "My Friends." I say that if they ever do decide to have an English Frontier album...hell, go all out and have May'n and Megumi sing it. "What 'bout my star" notwithstanding, they both have enough of a grasp of English that I think they could handle it.
  23. Well...considering that it has been constantly staged for the last three to four hundred years, you'd think that they would've worked out the kinks by now. I've been reading the book for the last few months, and I'm nearing the end. When it's good, it's awesome, but it really is the same damn thing over and over again...i.e. demons capture Sanzang and want to eat him, Monkey fights the demons but can't defeat them, Monkey asks the Bodhisattva for help, Guanyin comes down and saves everybody's asses, repeat 81 times...
  24. You mean, you don't want to hear "Sheryl Nome American" on her debut album, "Nyan Eng"?
