  1. I still think the name "Michael" can be pronounced "Mikhail," but as I consider the topic more, I find myself leaning towards your side, despite the name "Michael" appearing in the show itself. But then, I think Manga Ent. dropped the ball in naming the designer of the YF-19 "Yang," when it seems MUCH more likely to me that he has the quite common Scandinavian name "Jan" (pronounced "Yan"), and I alwways liked "Miria" better than "Millia," since the letter R has a harder, tougher sound in English than L. But all of this is getting rather far away from discussing the Chronicles... I have to say that I'm getting a little dispirited in my trasnlations, since it doesn't seem that there's much that's really revelatory in any of the pages that I've translated so far. The Timeline Sheets are interesting as far as Zero is concerned, since they differ from the Compendium timeline; they also unambiguously state that Shins' VF-0 emitted a blue glow and then disappeared, disproving the "It was All Metaphorical" theory; the Extra Report in the Shao Pai Long History Sheet mentions a number of (I believe) previously unmentioned Propaganda Movies made aboard the SDF-1, like "The Samurai of Space" and "The Miraculous Battle Operation: Escape from Mars Base!"; there's the mention of the SDFN Series, like (I presume) the SDFN-04 Global; other than that, it seems like it's first and foremost a consolidation of previously known information, rather than anything new. Which makes translating it seem like a lot of pain for not much gain. I'm not giving up yet, but I am beginning to wonder if my time might not be better served by scanning through the pages to find the nuggets of useful information rather than trying to come up with nice, readable translations. Let me know what you think.
  2. I'm certainly not putting anything more on my plate at this time...I'm backlogged as it is.
  3. She must think that Macross is entirely about guys who eat pineapple-related food and then get serious injuries that cause a lot of blood loss...
  4. On the contrary, a hell of a lot of people here (all of whom I would defend as "Macross fans") really disliked it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that those of us who liked it are in the minority. (Although almost everyone agrees that the battles are lovely to watch.)
  5. Y'know, I think I remember reading an interview with Alan Moore in the L.A. Times a few months ago where he mentioned doing a magic spell designed to foul up the movie... Could this be the result...?
  6. Yeah, but it's Robotech, not DYRL. And I don't think the Pinpoint Barrier girls were anywhere near the bridge... Maybe Palladium figured that Shammy was security, and that one Shammy equals four rent-a-cops.
  7. Cool...Currently downloading. I hope you mention that the comic is WAAAAY better than the movie.
  8. I thought that the name pronounced "Mikhail" could also be spelled "Michael," but maybe I was wrong. Unfortunately, it's what shows up on his gravestone... (And yes, I know errors happen all the time in animation, like Riber/Liver and the gravestone in I-forget-which Bubblegum Crisis episode, but Frontier seemed to take more care which such matters...Ranka never once appeared as Lanka, and they even went to far as to correct "Noam" to "Nome" in the second OP.) Although, I have to say that for subbing purposes, I like "Mikhail" and "Michel" better, since it shows a clear distinction, rather than "Michael" and "Michel," which might leave a lot of viewers thinking that it was just a typo.
  9. Same as when they were in the Jammingbirds...Chitose Ripple, Marilyn Linkerbell, and Kaneko Michelle. Chitose's the blonde (the one asked several uncomfortable questions by Dr. Chiba), and Kaneko's the one with the kinda/sorta shag cut. Marilyn has the bow in her hair. God, I can't believe I know this. What useful bit of information from my old Dante, Chaucer, or Shakespeare classes has been shoved out of my brain to make room for the names of the Jammingbirds...?
  10. That's a pretty good list, although I've not seen the new Astro Boy or Code Geass. Like pretty much everyone else, I voted for Real Robots, although I really like Super Robots, too. So, if you want to see one of the greatest Super Robot shows EVER, check out Zambot 3. It's amazing, and, as a bonus, it DOESN'T run for dozens and dozens and dozens of episodes. But I think my favorite shows are often the ones that combine Real and Super robot conventions, like Evangelion or Ideon.
  11. You don't remember it? C'mon, man! The bit where his hands crumble away as he tries to hold Sivil is one of the best moments in the show!
  12. It's pretty much as Jonias says, except I would add that there are a variety of (mostly short-running) comics, from various Gundam universes, some serious, some gag-style (and one which is about a young woman who is the biggest Gundam nerd you've ever seen), lots of news articles and interviews, and some of the more prominent staff and cast of Gundam have their own columns (Yoshiyuki Tomino interviews someone every month, the voice actress for Lalah does a horoscope, Kunio Okawara shows off different Gundam-related things he's designed...stuff like that). If Macross Ace is similar, I'd imagine that it would contain about four or five different comic series, and lots of talking to the Macross creators (staff and actors). Like Azrael said, I'm not sure there's enough stuff going on with Macross to make it a fully satisfying magazine, but we'll see.
  13. It's called "May'n Street"? That's AWESOME! It looks like not all of the songs will be Kanno-produced, however...
  14. "Mihaeru" and "Misheeru"? I understand why you're doing it that way, but I'd rather not. "Michael Blanc" appears in the show, it's the ONLY romanization of his name that appears, and it also makes sense. Not to use it seems needlessly pedantic. I'm asking not so much for Chronicle translation, but for the Frontier subs that Xeros is working on, wondering whether, when people call him "Misheeru," to romanize it as "Michel" or keep it "Michael."
  15. Sorry...I should've actually FINISHED reading the paragraph...it says that one of his parents has some Zolan in him or her, but there's also some Zentradi blood from a generation or two back. Man, the Protoculture ruins in Mac7 that was looking for "the Sign of Peace" would've orgasmed uncontrollably if Michael had shown up... By the way, for trasnliteration purposes, are we all agreed that his proper name is "Michael" but his nickname is "Michel"...?
  16. They showed it at least once. I want to say it was episode 8, but I really don't remember. Little help, anyone?
  17. Sure...you get Mikimoto to do "Macross: The Origin," the character designer from Zero can do "Focker's Deleted Affair(s)," get some other big name character designer to do a side story called "Macross 2042," and then a bunch of no-name people to do a bunch of other comics that no one will really care about. It'll be GREAT!! (Nah, I'm sure it'll be better than that...but still, I'm a little worried.)
  18. Now, now...we don't know that. It's merely a guess. Besides, the kite logo DOES show up a few times in Frontier (on the VF-1A on top of the school and during "Legend of Zero"), so if they really wanted to do away with the kite completely, they did a poor job of it.
  19. I wish I knew...as far as I can tell, they don't say.
  20. Incidentally, we finally got some clarification on WTF we should call the WTF-1. Accodring to the Chronicle, the Macross Class ships (like the Global) are classified SDFN. So the Global would most likely be the SDFN-04.
  21. Well, I just got the latest issue, and it confirms the Frontier novelization: Michael is part Zolan. So I guess the information from "Zomeo and Zoliet" that humans and Zolans can't reproduce is no longer true...
  22. Is this the rumored "Macross Ace"? I wonder how much like Gundam Ace it'll be...I can't imagine Macross supporting a monthly 500-page monstrosity. I hope it's more like the way Gundam Ace was in its first year: quarterly and rather slim. And I wonder who they could get as a big-name manga artist? Mikimoto's rather busy these days, unless Ecole du Ciel is coming to a close...
  23. Well, that's one rumor in the HG/Big West debate scotched...if Manga Ent. still holds the rights to them, HG hasn't managed to convince anybody that they own the whole franchise, nor have they tried to psych Manga Ent. out with copyright issues. At least, not successfully.
  24. I'm in for some TV-style pilots.
  25. According to the "Series Guide" pages that come with Issue 1, they have a so-far unused category for "Other," which they say will be for Mechanic and Character Sheets from games and other things. The examples they cite which will be covered are the VF-14 Vampire, Battle 13, and the Neo-Glaug. So I think it's safe to assume that all the game stuff will get covered...I'm less certain about the SK Design Works VFs.
