  1. Why do that when the comic itself had an excellent "soundtrack"? Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, Jimi Hendrix, John Cale, Nat King Cole, Iggy Pop...the list doesn't get much better than that.
  2. Good job, but you forgot the most important ones: - While dining, you realize that your sandwich can be assembled into a vaguely Gerwalk-like form. This makes you so excited that you stand up and knock over your coffee. - Bonus points if you then dazedly utter "Deculture..." - You know where the above two references come from.
  3. Well, in 2009, Millia was 15, Britai was 34, and Kamjin was 23, if that's any help. Trash is interesting, but it's not terribly Macross-y. None of the regular Mac7 caracters appear except in cameo appearances (which may be a good or bad thing, depending on your attitude towards them), although Max is arguably involved at least as much in Trash as he was in the series. As for the cloning, our best bet is to wait a while...Macross Chronicle will probably cover it eventually.
  4. Chronicles DOES have some little gems sprinkled among the already-well-known bits of info...my feeling about is that it's meant to be an encyclopedia of Macross, not "The Secrets of Macross." Some of the original art in it hasn't been my cup of tea, but I think most of it has been quite awesome. Of course, I'm waiting for more Frontier information, and I'm curious as to what the Timeline's going to say between 2012 and 2040. And I really, REALLY hope they have Goods Sheets for the twenty or so Macross novels that have come out.
  5. Today's the 45th Anniversary of Doctor Who and no one even gives a shout-out? You disappoint me, Taksraven.
  6. Agreed. "The 08th Destroid Team" is a punch line, not a series proposal. Hmmm...it depends on what you're talking about. I don't get the toys, so that leaves a lot of room in my bank account that could conceivably go towards books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs. That said, I haven't picked up the "Official Files" or "2059 Memories," and I doubt I will any time soon. For me, Macross Chronicle comes first, Macross Ace will be second, CDs are third, and saving up for expensive import DVD box sets comes fourth. And in case you're wondering, canned bread isn't even in the running.
  7. I've never seen that model before... And now I want it something fierce.
  8. If it's by Hayato Aoki, I'll probably pass...I haven't been thrilled by his art in the official MacF comic. I really hope they don't go overboard with side stories. One thing I like about Macross is that it's a huge, sprawling epic, but it's not as confused and confusing as, say, the Gundam universe(s). Just to take take a minor example, there are so many One-Year-War side stories, each with its own Gundam, that the Gundam Mk. II from Zeta should by all rights be the Gundam Mk. XXII or something.
  9. 1. Try macross.anime.net, which is as official as can be. 2. We've never seen one die of old age, so AFAIK, that's still an unknown. 3. Of course! Uncultured Zentradi are still out and about, here and there. 4. What about them?
  10. You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you!
  11. UPDATE: I still haven't finished the Zentradi page, since I've been working on Frontier scripts for Xeros. I'll finish it sometime this week, for sure. After that, it depends...no matter what, when issue 10 comes out, I'm dropping everything and doing the VF-25 sheet. But if I finish the Zentradi page well before I get issue 10, then I'm either going to start in on one of the History Sheets (probably either the "Bird Human War" or the one about Sharon Apple's concert), or keep plugging away at the Timeline Sheets.
  12. ...Except for the fact that anyone who doesn't know how to pronounce Japanese would probably put the stress on the first syllable, and we'd have a bunch of people saying "KOO-ran KOO-ran," which doesn't sound anything like her name either. Let's just call her クラン・クラン and be done with it. BONUS REASON FOR DOING SO: It would drive Misaforsaken up the frickin' WALL! (Actually, Klan Klang isn't all that bad, despite sounding a little silly. It's certainly heaps better than "Klan Klein.")
  13. Well...there was the dinosaur thingy on Planet Lux in Macross 7 that looked a lot like Jabby from Orguss...other than that, I certainly haven't noticed any. I kind of doubt there would be any Southern Cross references, since A) it wasn't very popular, and B) none of the Macross staff worked on it (that I know of, that is).
  14. DAMN! I was right...
  15. I agree on all counts. BOMBAA!! (Although the SECOND greatest moment in the history of everything has to be Pedro jumping into Emilia's mouth. )
  16. I don't think it looks that bad...but as Graham pointed out, it doesn't look terribly Macross-y. I get the feeling that the designer saw that Gundam Evolve remake of "The Newtype, Challia Bull" and tried to do similar things to the VF-1 that that episode of Evolve did to the RX-78. Looks higher-quality than Shadow Chronicles, though...that's for DAMN sure.
  17. Keep that optimism as long as you can! Realistically, it takes a couple of years to get the hang of the language...I studied for three before I could make my way through the Area 88 manga (which was the first long thing I successfully read in Japanese). Oh, and start studying katakana on your own as soon as possible and STICK WITH IT. It's momumentously useful for anime-related stuff, but Japanese classes tend to give it short shrift.
  18. Well...she did release three singles before Frontier, so if that's any indication, her own style is rather generic Pop/R'n'B/Soul. Which is kind of too bad, 'cause she'd be a hell of a rock singer...
  19. Awesome! And I know what you mean about momentum...the feeling of progress is almost more important than progress itself, isn't it?
  20. That kind of is the problem...it's only the first storyline of the comic, which I don't think got REALLY good until the Clotho chapter. I don't think the movie sucks, but I wish they had had the prologue, and I wish they had made at least three or four OVAs.
  21. Enh, I don't think it matters what writers they get, the thing will still suck. The only real difference is that the more and bigger names they get for it, the more likely it'll get made, alas.
  22. Okay, I'll give it a shot. (And March: don't worry, I'll take your translation request, too. ) EDIT: And yes, Azrael encapsulates the mecha-page translation problem perfectly. A further example: I was going great guns on the Zentradi World Guide Sheet until I hit the section on Zentradi genetics. Then I was looking up almost every single word in the dictionary, which (SURPRISE!) didn't have a lot of them, which meant I had to wait to get home and look them up online, which takes longer. I finished the paragraph, but afterwards, I really needed to take a break from it for a couple of days.
  23. C'mon, man...I haven't given up yet! There's still a lot I want to do on it, and I'm happy to try the mecha stuff. I just probably won't be able to one per weekend like the character sheets...
  24. Tell you what. Give me a request and I'll see if I can hack it. No guarantees, but I'm willing to give it the old college try.
  25. Uh, yeah... Mecha stuff is simply beyond my abilities at this point, unfortunately. The vocabulary is INCREDIBLY difficult, my dictionaries don't have a lot of technological terms, and even if I can piece together the meaning of a long string of kanji, chances are good that I don't know what the technical English term is. I thought the History and World Guide Sheets would be chock full of new info, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
