I think the best thing to do is to try to order as much Yamato stuff as possible from BBTS. When they see the thousands of dollars they have to turn down in order to make way for Toynami, they may change their mind. Or, any time you buy a Yammie from somewhere else, drop BBTS a line, saying, "I wanted to buy this from you, but instead I had to go to Retailer X." Something like that. In other words, let them know they're missing out.

That first one isn't a comic...it's the novelization. And there are scans of the first volume-and-a-half available here, at this very website. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26506 The comic (I think) has been translated here as well. The novels, on the other hand...well...maybe someday. Maybe.

I dunno...looks like it could be a lot of fun, and it clearly has a lot of style. I'll give it a try.

I've noticed that, too...I imported nearly all of the record and CD entries from the old Compendium to the new, and was rather puzzled about what to do with the word "releaser," which of course isn't a real word. At firrst, I decided to leave it (since it's Egan's site, not mine), but later I wished that I had changed it. By that time, though, I'd almost finished importing the entries and didn't really feel like going back and fixing the previous pages.

Hmmm...that one, I didn't know. Thanks!

Remake - The Day the Earth Stood Still
Gubaba replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Strangely, it got a good review from Kenneth Turan in the Los Angeles Times (he who earned my serious respect years ago for giving Titanic a bad review, amidst tons of angry letters from Leo/Kate fans who wanted him fired), but he did seem to enjoy it more as camp than as a serious film experience. -
I still it's worth reading, although you may not make it to the end. The first book in the series is just okay, but the next five to seven are stunningly brilliant. Then he (Dave Sim, the writer, artist, editor, AND publisher of Cerebus) dropped the big shoe that alienated almost everyone in Book Eight ("Reads"), and so a lot of people left before the other shoe dropped almost ten years later (in Book Fifteen, "Latter Days")...and alienated nearly everyone else. I think it's still well worth the ride, but Sim seems to have been slowly going insane over the final hundred or so issues of the comic, and I mean that quite literally. Yeah, the Kim Newman series is pretty cool, as is Phillip Jose Farmer's Wold Newton saga, which is also pretty much the same idea.

No, it's single, album, and ringtone download. (And I'm glad to see that "Ash Like Snow" is there SOMEwhere, even if only in the ringtone section. I couldn't care less about Gundam 00, but I'm a HUGE Brilliant Green fan.)

But it IS a wiki that anyone who signs in can add to, and I haven't seen any vandalism or erroneous information creeping in (although some of the questions on the discussion pages are pretty bizarre, like the guy asking if Minmay was related to Sara and Mao, or some such). In other words, you could make it an open wiki, and I bet there'd be little or no vandalism. Like the Compendium, anyone likely to visit M3 probably has a deep respect for it, and wouldn't want to be the guy who screws it up....although you might get some interesting "Pimp My Valkyrie" entries

Macross Frontier Series Discussion Thread *READ 1st Post*
Gubaba replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I was sure there was one...I may be confusing it with something else, though. -
Isn't that essentially what's happened with the Compendium? If you do that, I promise to personally go through and change everything to Robotech names, and replace all of the information on the VF-19 Kai with the words "Dude...it's got a FACE! What else do you need to know?"

Sweaty jacket...ewwww.... (Actually, I think that you can buy an SMS jacket...but it's pretty damn expensive.) -
One thing I'm learning about Chroncile is that there is no such thing as a "quick" translation of ANYTHING in it, unless you skip a lot of stuff. The Macross 5 article is still eight none-too-short paragraphs of rather dense text. I may get around to it eventually, but it won't be soon. But if you have a specific question about the page, I'll look and see if I can answer it.

Never saw the movie...the advance word was terrible, the ads were terrible (as Mina (I think...it could be Allan) says in The Black Dossier, "Only Americans would be stupid enough to think that "X" stands for "Extra"), and once it came out, the reviews were terrible...so it was easy for me to miss. And Radd, I highly recommend the Black Dossier...it's more than just a "text with a few illustrations." It's HEAVILY illustrated throughout, in an impressive amount of different styles. The big difference is that, unlike the previous volumes, where in the comic was the main story and the little typey stuff at the end was a supplement, here the little typey stuff (which is neither "little" nor "typey," really) is the real story, and the comic is just a framing device. But, as always, it's astonishing stuff, and apparently sets the stage the for Volume III. And you get to see James Bond make out with Emma Peel. As for other comics, I really, really liked Strangers in Paradise, Bone, Sandman (I'm currently collecting the Absolute Sandman - three down, one of to go), The Invisibles, pretty much anything by Alan Moore, and Cerebus (which I followed all the way to the bitter end...and man, was it bitter). I don't have a lot of interest in (or patience for) superhero comics.

Most 'USEFUL' mode 'OVERALL' of all the Variable Fight
Gubaba replied to ruskiiVFaussie's topic in Movies and TV Series
She did some fancy battroid flying with Max in episode 28...she managed to fly a baby safely into orbit in fighter mode...and she pwned Basara in gerwalk. Does any of that count? EDIT: Whoops, I meant episode 27 ("Love Drifts Away"), not episode 28...in which I believe she did absolutely nothing. -

...And fighter works just fine if you're too busy enjoying the sky to give a damn about the woman (women?) you love....or if you want to take a swim after the the woman you love has been whisked off to some unknown area of the galaxy. I dunno. Seems like they're all pretty much even to me. -

Orguss did (and it was called a Gerwalk, as well...not surprising, I suppose, considering the staff). Some of the Zeta and Double Zeta mecha had modes that looked suspiciously gerwalk-ian, but none of them were referred to as such. I can't think of any others, but I also have the distinct feeling that I've having a brain-fart and missing something obvious. -
Heh. The LA one is pretty close to my work. (I've also been meaning to check out Ajisen Ramen on Valley Blvd. next to the Hilton, but mostly because it looks like a real-life Nyan Nyan.) Still, I was stating that as a recommendation to wolfx, because I once watched Tampop with a friend, the movie finished at 12:30 AM, and the only ramen restaurant around that was open was in Little Tokyo, which isn't all that close to my place. We made it, though. Anyway, lesson learned: anytime you watch Tampopo, make sure there's a handy ramen shop around for afterward.

Ah, you're taking it all too seriously. Tori Amos's cover album has some stinkers on it, but that ain't one of 'em. And I'm thrilled because I just finished downloading roughly ten hours of Velvet Underground bootlegs, so I'm happier than a pig in sh*t.

I'm not terribly sympathic to this viewpoint...monster movies have long been a vehicle for social commentary...from the original Godzilla to Cloverfield. The Host handled its themes better than most, I think, and, as Ghost Train pointed out, the family saga was great. Haven't seen "Linda" (I love the Blue Hearts song it's named for, though), but Tampopo is excellent. But before you watch it, make sure you have time to go to a Japanese restaurant; it'll make you hungry as hell.

...Klan, is it you...?

That's a little disappointing...May'n's mini-album only has two songs written by YK, Megumi's single has none...although I notice that first song on Megumi's single is called, more or less, "Wanna Be an Angel." Of course, really, I'm just being a jerk. I want more Sheryl and Ranka music, and most likely neither of these releases will scratch that itch..which is fine; both of them should be able to go in any musical direction they feel like. We don't want them to become bitter about Macross, like Mari Iijima occasionally was/is.

Okay...it's a little off-topic, but since there are so many Aya Ueto fans out there, here it is, the first in the brilliant Soft Bank "White Family" ad series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaPk40FFkS4 As I said, it's helpful to know some Japanese to get it...but if you don't, all you really need to know are the following family words: "Okaasan" = "mother" "Niichan" = "older brother" and most importantly, "Otousan" = "father" Enjoy!

I still say the talk on the Minmay Character Sheet about Roy's VF-1J was the first real error, but this is the first error they've acknowleged (which is funny, because I remember looking at the sheet and thinking, "09? Shouldn't that be reserved for a Destroid?") And glad the stickers came with the issue...I don't think there's any new type of binder.
