Macross Frontier Series Discussion Thread *READ 1st Post*

Don't worry...they're making one. -
I thought the exact same thing...I love May'n dearly, but...KYLIE F*CKIN' MINOGUE??? That said, maybe she's changed over the last couple of decades...all I really know are her first three singles: "I Should Be So Lucky," "Lucky Lucky Lucky," and "I Should Be So Lucky in Love."

I thought most people the novel's ending as canonical (ie: they both died)...

Cool. Thanks! -
Good point. So then it absolutely HAD to be Shinji, if only because 01 was the only Eva (besides the Eva Series) with an S2 engine...and Shinji is the only pilot that 01 would synchronize with. Still, if 04 hadn't vanished, things could, I assume, have been different.

That's right! I forgot about Alan Letz. Okay, I'm happy to blame him instead of Tommy Yune.

I like to think that it was Gendo trying to be the best dad in the world (think of it as the Jesus story reversed...God loved the world so much that He sacrificed His only son for it, but Gendo loved his son so much that he sacrificed the world for him), but I may be giving Gendo too much credit. Shinji may simply have been in the right place at the right time. If Asuka had survuved long enough, and Shinji had run away after Misato died, they may have tried to enact Instrumentality with Eva-02...I wonder what world Asuka would've created?

Crap...just when I thought I'd had everything figured out... I may end up getting last year's Macbook pro, if it comes to that...but I'm worried that the video card might not be strong enough. -
His hand is on the wheel, isn't it? I would imagine that the legal department needs at least to inform him of what they're doing, if not actually ask his permission to go ahead with something. Or does the buck stop with Frank Agrama?

Hush, you. Just think...by this time tomorrow, I'll be able to watch all those h264 MKVs, and where will you and your PC be...? -
Hmmm...the ending of Akira is still considered controversial, I believe. But generally, I can think of many anime endings that are considered shocking (Zambot 3, Ideon), but ones where the debate is about what actually happened at the end? Yeah...Eva and Akira are the only ones that come to mind.

Sorry...just a quick correction: Carl Macek had NOTHING to do with Harmony Gold by the time the Yamato fiasco went down. While he made a lot of decisions that are easy for us to dislike, Harmony Gold's legal thuggery isn't one of them. Tommy Yune, on the other hand...

The thing I was always curious about is...what happens next? Everyone comes back, but does the world revert to the way it was before, or is everyone stuck on a bleak world with red seas and no vegetation? I like to think it's the former, since it would be kind of sad to think that the entire human race comes back, only to die out from starvation in a year or two.

I once pissed off Miki Berenyi so much at a Lush show that she threatened to walk off stage. The offending remark ("Your roots are showing!") made it into a Spin Magazine article about them AND was the title of a bootleg of the show. There you go, that was my fifteen minutes of fame. It made me feel pretty bad, though, because I really, really loved Lush. "Hypocrite" is great, but I still think "Sweetness and Light" is my favorite song of theirs, although it really bugged me that they cut out the squall of guitar noise for the video version...that little bit of dissonance totally MADE the song for me. In 1994, pretty much all of the 4AD bands came to L.A. and played a week-long 4AD celebration...I managed to get into every show, and every in-store, and even managed to finagle my way into the wrap-up party...where I was crushed to see Heidi Berry (who I had a massive crush on) dancing a little too provactively with the (female) singer for Pale Saints. I also almost knocked over Lisa Gerrard. On the plus side, I got to grab some lunch with Kim Deal and talk to the (incredibly hot) singers for His Name Is Alive.

Hmmm...never thought about it that way. I always assumed that harvesting the soul killed the person involved (as I thought it did with Yui). Now I'm just imanging Touji's sister having all the same problems Bart Simpson had when he sold his soul to Milhouse.

Thank you! (But damn...I was hoping to avoid Windows. I guess I still miss the early '90s when ALL fansubbing was done on Macs...) -
Hmmm...I always through she was talking to Aramisael. And yeah, the "no soul = no AT Field" is relatively convincing. I would say that maybe the next movie will have more to say on the matter, except I have a hunch that they won't rebuild the 00, and Rei will get the Eva-05 instead. I could esily be wrong about that, though. But again...wouldn't his sister have to be dead for them to get her soul?

I've got a real n00b question here... Since Monday is my birthday, my Mom's spotting some money to help me get a new laptop, so I'm heading to the Mac Store tomorrow to check out what's available. Now considering that I was one of the whiny bitches who coudn't play h264, I want to solve that problem first. Likewise, I want to be able to do some fansubbing and scanlating of my own (yes, I'm still thinking about doing ALL of Macross, as well as the Area 88 manga). So, as a complete neophyte here, what should I look for in a laptop? -
One of my Japanese friends (who showed me Death and Rebirth WELL before if ever came out on video...she'd taped it off of Wowow when they showed it on New Years Day '98) always maintained that Eva-00 had no soul at all...which was why it was harder to control. I know EvaOtaku came up with a syllogism to explain why it MUST have had a soul, but I'm not sure I buy it. Of course, I have no idea where my friend got her information, so...I dunno. As for Eva-03 being Touji's sister...where did you hear that? I'm not sure I believe it considering 1) Eva-03 was made in America, and 2) Touji's sister is still alive.

I largely agree, but I think you're selling Fuyutsuki short. I think he was a truly good and decent man overwhlemed by SEELE, Gehirn, and NERV...and any of them could have wiped him out of existence if he had opposed them too strongly.
-
I think you have be careful in equating Eva-01 with Yui...The Eva contain's Yui's soul, but not her mind (or heart). Even when Eva-01 breaks free of her bonds, I'm not sure she's always doing what Yui would've done. Or maybe Yui would've eaten an angel...you never know. But I EMPHATICALLY agree with Keith that Yui intended to "die" so that her soul would be transferred to the Eva. I'm not so sure about Asuka's mom, though. And I kinda sorta envy Keith for his "Eva Guru" status...I tried to be an Eva Guru before, but by 2001 or so I just had to give up. Eventually, the fan theorizing gets too abstruse and personal to follow clearly, and there are always the people showing up saying, "damn ending MADE NO SENSE! THIS SHOW SUCKS!" and I lack the patience to deal with those people any more. You get the show or you don't.

Heh. Ten years ago I more or less stopped listening to any new music (except for the local bands that hadn't broken up) and started listening almost exclusively to sixties rock...and soon after that, I got into J-Pop in a big way, getting into Puffy, Shiina Ringo, and The Brilliant Green. But I was always a little out of step with what everybody else liked. Throughout the ninties, I had no time for grunge...but I got pretty much everything that the record company 4AD released.
