Mingmei is a real name...I don't think it's ever spelled "Minmay," though.
-
No, no...I can see how they could do it. You spend two hours getting to know the commandos...their dreams, their fears, the women they left behind, stuff like that. Then the team of Predators moves in and you get three minutes of commandos being eviscerated. The end.

Bandai site text-Possible Licensing Rumor?
Gubaba replied to JELEINEN's topic in Movies and TV Series
Looks like a lot of gibberish to me...is there a context for it? Who's talking to whom? And when? EDIT: Looking down, I just noticed that "Klang" is indeed her official name! -

Thanks! And PM me if you want to help out. As I said, it's not an immediate priority for me, but sometime soon... Minmay's doing some modeling work at the Launch Ceremony. Yot-chan has either been left at home, or simply doesn't exist in this version...which is a good thing, since some rather degenerate photographers get an eyeful when a gust of wind blows past...

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
Gubaba replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's a strange request, since they haven't shown their faces in any Gundam anime for almost twenty years, unless you count Gundam Evolve (and their respective mobile suits' blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameos in MS Igloo). Since I got into Gundam while Zeta was finishing up its first run, I always felt that Gundam was first and foremost the story of Amuro and Char. When their story ended, so did a lot of my interest in the Gundam world(s). As I've said before, I wish they'd revive Mobile Suit Gaiagear as an anime...the absolute closest you can get to featuring Char without actually featuring him.- 3772 replies

First, read Genesis 38:3~10 for the story of Onan. Then extrapolate. FINALLY! An AV that will make EVERY fanboy fantasy come true!!! You really DON'T want to know what they do with the Dilithium Crystals...

Go back a couple of pages. To repeat: I've been working with the the subs for SDFM, and a good chunk of the dialogue and narration is exactly the same as in the comic, I don't think it would be *too* difficult to work out a translation. But I'm a novice with Photoshop-type stuff, so to create a scanlation, I'd need someone who knew what they were doing to help out.
-
I'm not really sure what you mean by that, so this answer may not be relevant... Are you saying that Megumi's work in Macross might overshadow any music career she embarks on? If so, I don't see how having Yoko Kanno write and produce a song or two on her first solo album would mean that she'd be forever typecast as Ranka. Besides, Mari's songs sound nothing like Minmay's. Mari has always written her own material, Megumi doesn't (yet, at any rate). So I don't really see the comparison.

New Masters of the Universe Movie????
Gubaba replied to promethuem5's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If Cringer ain't in it, I ain't seein' it. He was the glue that held that show together. -
I dunno. That may just be wishful thinking on (y)our part...

I'm assuming Sara in the Birdman dragged Shin's plane along with her...and the Birdman folded, so...yeah. I guess the VF-0 did, too. And I just realized...after sticking the sentence about the "rigidity of the ship" into the translation engine that Sketchley recommended, I realized that Final Vegeta indeed was right about "rigidity" referring to the strength of the ship. My mistake was thinking 船体 referred to the entire ship, when really, it just means the hull.

Sory for sounding like a broken record, but I think they're doing the same thing they did with Gundam the Origin. Gundam Ace debuted as a quarterly magazine, and it had two chapters of Gundam the Origin every issue. Then it went bimonthly...still two chapters per issue. Finally, it went monthly, and they reduced it to one chapter each issue. So yes, if Macross Ace never goes monthly, we'll get two chapters per issue. And also...yes, Mikimoto's writing the comic himself, but a lot of the dialogue and narration is taken verbatim from the script of the TV series. Incidentally, I just finished scanning the first chapter of Macross the First. If there are any photoshop whizzes out there who want to scanlate it with me, let me know. Again, I won't be getting to it real soon, but maybe in a few weeks.

From Timeline Sheet #06, the very last entry on the page (Incidentally, it says that the Birdman folded): "While the Birdman flew off to space on a trail of light, Shin's almost-destroyed fighter sinks into the ocean. But then, the VF-0 once more floats above the surface of the sea, and, enveloped in blue light, follows to Birdman into space." Since you ask so nicely... 一方で最低限の武装しか持たず船体の剛性も低いため、戦闘には適していない。
-
Well...it doesn't actually use the word "fold." I'm heading off to work in a few minutes, so I can't do it now, but I'll translate the line when I get home this afternoon.

Has anyone else picked up Megumi Nakajima's single yet? I thoght it was...all right. A little bit harder-edged than I expected, which is cool. I hope Kanno helps out a bit when Megumi comes out with an album, though.

You sound like you think it's too late for them to do that. They might still...certainly there are a number of comics in Gundam Ace that really added something to the Gundam universe(s). And as Macross Ace seems to be patterned after Gundam Ace, we'll probably see that here as well. The big difference, I think, is that the original Gundam has always been the most popular Gundam series, so the magazine tends to focus on it more. With Macross, Frontier seems to be the one that everyone's crazy about, so it's not surprising that there's a lot of Frontier material in the first issue. If it sells well, they'll get more daring. But...let's face it, it's comic magazine. It will never be as authoritative as the animated stories. Which is fine by me...the last thing I want is something like the Star Wars Expanded Universe or like the Robotech comics. I don't want to see comics that try to fill in every nook and cranny of the series ("How did Hikaru's father die? Well, yes, it was during an aerobatics stunt, but what you DIDN'T know is that a lone Vajra scout suddenly folded to earth and killed him, and then folding out before anyone saw it happen!" "What was Kamjin doing right before he folded to meet with Britai...funny story, he'd been exploring the Varauta system and ALMOST WOKE UP THE PROTODEVILN!"). Macross continuity is already a minefield of problems...I'd rather they didn't mess it up further.
-
Wait...that doesn't make sense. So, in order to reduce armor, they reduced their weapons systems...? That sounds like a lose-lose to me... I've mentioned this before (in the "About the Chronicles" thread, but what you saw is what happened: The Bird-Man folds off, and Shin's VF-0 falls into the ocean but then somehow reappears, emits a strange blue light, and folds off.
-
I haven't really had a chance to go through the magazine in-depth yet, but so far...well, there's a lot of room for improvement, but it seems to be off to a good start. I kind of hope Macross the First doesn't get rushed...I want it to take its time telling the story. I also think it's interesting that the whole story seems to be Minmay's flashback (and then Global has a flashback-within-a-flashback...oooh! Avant garde!) It still bothers me that Hayato Aoki is the "Frontier go-to guy," because I don't think he really has a visual grasp on either the characters or the mecha...but his art style works pretty well for the more comedic story here ( ). "Secret Visions" I haven't read yet, so I can't really comment. Ditto "Macross 7th Chord." Although I've looked through the latter, and I hope it ties into the series more in future installments. Me, I want "The Adventures of Young Isamu" or "The Biography of Dr. Mao," or something about the period between SDFM and Plus. If they do the story of the Megaroad or some kind of Space War I destroid-pilot side story, that could kill it for me, so I really hope they leave well enough alone there.
-
I really want to tackle at least Macross the First, if not all the comics. Currently, I've been working with boinger to make nice subs for the remastered SDFM (I'm working on synthesizing the best of the ADV and AnimEigo translation jobs into a nice, clear translation...boinger's doing all the hard work), and I noticed while reading First today (I was also at Kinokuniya L.A., picking it up) that A LOT of the narration and dialogue is exactly the same as the show. In other words, I have translations of more than half of the comic already in text form...seems like it wouldn't be too much of a leap to do the rest. It won't be real soon, because the subs are my first priority at the moment, but I'd like to do a translation before the second issue is out.

Yeah, the second half of Zeta drags a bit, I think (Can't you just see the writers saying "FIFTY EPISODES? How are we going to fill all that?") but the last four or five episodes really pull everything together, and the ending is really good. And Double Zeta is NOTHING like Zeta...but once you start watching it, you'll wish it was. Please define "better."- 3772 replies

Yeah, but edwin3060 said people got killed because Basara was on the battlefield. And I don't think that ever happened in the show.

I'd say there's probably at least much apathy directed towards Galvion or Yamato 2520 than there is towards Southern Cross. Hell, I've just typed the word "Galvion" more times in the last minute or so than anyone else has since the creation of the internet. And I'll do it again: "Galvion." Mentioned three times in one post...that's gotta be a world record.

I'm just the messenger, folks. I can tell you what it says, but I can't really tell you what it all means. I'm a Lit Major, not an aerospace engineer...
