    The amazing thing is that, this being Gundam, we really could go on stringing five or six titles together, and it would take a few pages of posts for us to run out. As soon as someone mentions "Look for Avenir," though, I'm running away...making a reference to that would be WAAAAY too geeky, even for me. I haven't seen the second episode yet, but if it's anything like the first...man, the first two MS Igloo series had at least one guy who died in each episode...MS Igloo 2 wiped out the entire cast. There are two things I'm kind of worried about, though: The Hidden One-Year-War and Apocalypse 0079 gained a lot of strength from the reversal of fortunes for Zeon...going from triumph after tirumph to loss after loss. The gap of months between the first three episodes really showed this well, with each one being like a little snapshot into the decline and fall of the Principality of Zeon. I wonder if Gravity Front can have as effective a sense of tragedy...somehow, I think it will, but I have no idea how they'll pull it off. Second, I still don't know what the "Igloo" of the title is supposed to refer to...

    Dude! Are you saying that Rebecca Forstadt is a better Minmay than Mari Iijima...? I hope not...because if you were, you'd be showing serious lack of discernment. And, I'm sorry...Dan Woren isn't Focker any more than he's Yang Neumann. Akira Kamiya is, has been, and shall always be the REAL Roy Focker.

    I kinda sorta agree. Macek was/is a huge Macross fan, and his initial attempt to bring it over in a purer form was derailed by Revell already having the rights to some of the Macross models, and by the "65 episodes needed for syndication" stipulation. He did a pretty good job of trying to make it work within the constraints placed on him. He also did manage to wedge the series through without the kind of wholesale kiddification of, say, "Battle of the Planets." Personally, I don't have a whole lot of problems with Robotech; it wasn't all that great, but it was good for its time, and it had a big impact in terms of opening the door to anime becoming mainstream in the west. I liked it when I was eleven, but I have no desire to watch it now. No, what I have a problem with are people who want Robotech to continue at Macross's expense, and then say that Big West is in the wrong, because they don't want to work with Harmony Gold.

    "Focker" is a mistake that stuck. Consider: the aircraft company is spelled フォッカー. Roy surname is also spelled フォッカー. It's pronounced with a long "o" sound, not a short one. All the promotional materials related to Macross, of course, have "Focker," but that's not what his name should've been. cf. Michael/Mikhail/Michel. Hmmm...guess I shuld've checked the Compendium before I posted. Still, my point remains: there are very few Americans (or Brits, or Australians) that we see on the Macross. Hence, I figure something really bad must have happened to America during the Unification Wars.

    You're leaving out a few things mentioned, so I think it's really Turn-GaiaGear-Sentinel-Crossbone: War-in-the-Unicorn-Igloo-Stardust. Or we could just call it Rainbow Gundam and leave it at that.

    I never got the impression that ANY of the main characters in SDFM were American (Global's Italian, I believe Claudia and Max are French, Kim's Russian...maybe Vanessa or Shammy? Justy Borgnine, possibly?), so I always got the feeling that a lot of America was already wiped out during the Unification Wars. But Macross 11 doesn't have to be Brits and Americans...it might mostly be Aussies and Kiwis (who not only stole Fire Bomber songs, but also took the "Do You Remember Love" Movie and redubbed it into English...TA-DA! Finally, an in-universe explanation for Clash of the Bionoids!)

    So the joke about the VF-9 with a grand piano control system WASN'T a joke ending? Wow...this is going to be a pretty trippy series. And BTW, I'm pretty sure it's Macross 7th Chord rather than Code. At least, it fits the theme of the comic better...

    Err... Moving on, did anyone else find it strange that "Macross F: Secret Visions" (which is a comedic story) has art that's truer to the animation than the official Macross F comic does...?

    I think those news sources use a lot of...*ahem*..."independent research." I doubt they got their info about Robotech's plot from either Warners or HG. Remember the early news that Tobey McGuire would be playing a robot in it...? Regarding Ted McKeever...quite a while back, I listened to the podcast where he said they had "the rights to all of Robotech." Since that's all he would say, and since he kept repeating those exact words, it makes me think there's some kind of legal ass-covering going on... "We have the rights to ALL of Robotech." There's something important about the wording of that sentence. I don't know what it is, and I doubt anyone could say what it is (except HG's lawyers, who I'm sure crafted it). But the fact that he couldn't say anything else (and apologized for sounding like a broken record) leads me to believe that, even if he wasn't quite walking on legal eggshells, those legal eggshells were present in the room with him.

    Nah, it makes those three old Monster pilots from Macross 7 the best...after all, they drove a destroid in TWO wars, and came out alive.
