Was that earth...? I'm not sure they ever said...but I could very well be wrong about that.

Suddenly, you have me worried for the safety of the rock-camouflaged octopus from Mac Zero...I liked him, and hope he survived...

I wonder why the Macross Chronicle Timeline mentions nothing about Salla getting attacked? -
Um...isn't this the same idea you had five hours ago...? To wit:

Ah, that's what it was... Anyway, I just listened to the podcast, and...Covert Ops sounds better than I would've imagined. I never read any of the Robotech comics (except for the early issues of the Comico adaptations), and I doubt I'll ever get around to this one...but it's nice to know it's worthwhile. By the way...you mentioned doing Macross 7 Trash...when will that be up?

I thought one of those was shoved out to make room for "Codename: Robotech"...but I might be misremembering...

Macross Frontier and prior Macross mysteries

Possibly, but the attack on Mars Base happened BEFORE that. -
Is this part of the ever-expanding "Trilogy of Pain"?

Eugimon's exactly right. "Valkyrie" is a blanket term referring to any VF, and it's used as such in almost every Macross series.

Macross Frontier and prior Macross mysteries

Hmmm...sounds like you smell a conspiracy here. I don't think the attack on Salla was ever elaborated upon. Riber went there in 2004, it was attacked some time after, and then Misa blows the whole thing up in 2009. There may be something in the short novel, "Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences," which I'm currently (slowly) translating, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Let's face it: Mars Base Salla is a VERY minor plot point in SDFM, and so any idea that the Anti-UN is somehow NOT responsible, and that's there's some kind of cover-up, is giving the whole thing more thought than it probably deserves. Again, anything's possible, but wouldn't someone (Zentradi, human, anyone) keep records of finding a Vajra...? -
Macross Frontier and prior Macross mysteries
Gubaba replied to Syngyne's topic in Movies and TV Series
Short answer: No. (I mean, I suppose anything's possible, and we know from the MacZero BD release that there IS some Fold Quartz on earth, but I don't think anyone knew what it could be used for. And if a Vajra had landed on earth before, wouldn't everyone have been less surprised when they ran across them again in Frontier? And why do you think the Anti-UN attacked Mars Base Salla AFTER the war was over? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to have attacked DURING the war?) -

That's a big part of it, but (to me, at least) the weirdest thing is the "I paid to see our movie, so you MUST tell the stories I want to see in the ways that I want to see them!" sentiment, when most fanboys have no idea how to go about starting, developing, OR finishing a large creative work. In a sense, yes, the filmmaker (or writer, or musician, or whoever) DOES owe his or her livelihood to the people who pay to experience their work, but that's expressed in monterary terms, not creative ones. I hated Transformers; I saw it once in the theater, I will never see it again, I bought none of the merchandise, and I won't see any of the sequels. THAT'S how I express my dissatisfaction. And while I have a lot of ideas about why the movie didn't work work for me, I see no reason to expect that because I paid eleven bucks, Michael Bay should have to listen to my ideas. It's the same with George Lucas. He made a few movies that I really enjoyed, and a bunch that I didn't. And that's fine by me. Now, if someone were to PAY me to write about about what went wrong with Star Wars, that'd be different... -
Oh yeah? Well, THIS song does all that, AND teaches you how to set up foursomes with swingin' French girls! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMhO0Kfl5Ck

I find the victimization and sense of entitlement inherent in this a little weird. -
Why is "Valkyrie" erroneous?

Teenagers in Japan have the internet too, y'know. I doubt many people are being exposed to Sheryl's amazingness...I'm sure most are being re-exposed to it.

No, it's Basara's "Sphere of Annoyance."

Yeah, but most yakuza movies don't end with the first salvos of giant interstellar war being slung. So although yeah, it IS clearly inspired by the yakuza model (Shogo wearing the headband is a dead giveaway...and the breakers crashing in his eyes during the final "walk of shame" seem appropriate, too), I'm sure the producers were also thinking they could do a sequel if they so desired.

Well...it's always good to leave some room for a sequel, right? But I see your point...the fact that there's a massive space battle just beginning does leave Megazone 23 with a clearly open-ended finale...so the question becomes whether Megazone 23 Part II was what was intended as the encore, or whether they had no idea what happened after the first one, and improvised after Part I proved successful. I'd imagine it was a little of both, but that's just conjecture on my part.

I think most short-ish OAVs have the same problem...a lot of them seem like they should have been series (or actually WERE series in manga form...remember "Cosmo Police Justy"?) that just got truncated. I can't tell you how many times I shouted "Wait...that's the END!?!" at my TV screen back in the day...
