I should really stay away from this thread, since speculation presented as fact drives me crazy. Thirteen or so years ago, someone from some U.S. anime company said that the music rights for Macross 7 made that show prohibitively expensive. Recently, Keith got an email from Bandai suggesting the same thing for Frontier. As far as I know, no one has said that about, say, Zero. And no one has said whether the music from Macross 7 is STILL expensive (pop music has a pretty short shelf-life, after all).

Oh. Well...that's not terribly exciting. Ah well. I got the info from amazon.co.jp...looks like they put them up quite recently.

Is this the same version that boinger put up before? http://rapidshare.com/users/V28482 About three-quarters of the way down the page.

Big sticking point: No one else who died in the comic was killed by Intrinsic Field Removal. That made all the difference. Also, I never really took Jon at his word that he never made a decision for himself...he was ALWAYS trying to put the blame on other people, for absolutely everything.

I feel like I should do this Kresphy style... MACROSS F DRAMA CDS! There...now that MisaForgotten is totally pissed off, I'll translate: Macross F: Nyan Dra◎ (Dra1) 1. Alto Meets Sky 2. Triangler in a Cave 3. Sheryl's Heart-Thumping First Experience 4. Shao Pai Long Macross F: Nyan Dra◎ (Dra2) 1. Drama: Luca and the Three Ghosts 2. Drama: Ranka in the Midst of Idoling! 3. Drama: Pineapple Cake 4. Super Dimension Duet: "Runner" Based on past experience, I think it's best not to expect too much from the drama albums. But, at the VERY least, they should be a bit of goofy fun, and Sheryl and Ranka singing SDFM songs is always welcome.

And I think I like the name "Packy" even better than I like "Botasky." Especially for a rabbit.

DAMMIT! They NEED to make a "Sheryl Nome Sings Fire Bomber" album NOW!!!!

I don't get this. Zinjo said he uses "Minmei Lin" because it's more authentic. I was trying to demonstrate that it wasn't more authentic, and then a couple of people take issue with me on the topic of authenticity... I believe you're supporting my point. And yes, taking a word or a name from one language and changing it to fit (and then sometimes changing it BACK) often creates a host of mistakes. But I've been through that before, and don't really want to do it again.

By the way, does anyone have the Studio Nue Entertainment Bibles, since they apparently have Macross stories in them...?

 Man...that DOES look awesome.

Keanu Reeves wants to star in Cowboy Bebop movie
Gubaba replied to bandit29's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's...quite a convincing theory, actually. -

Oh, I don't doubt he could LOOK the part easily enough...but I wonder if he could ACT the part. (BTW, for anyone who says that Keanu Reeves isn't a good actor, there is one movie I always point to in which he was very good indeed: "My Own Private Idaho." So I think it's not a question of ability on Mr. Reeves's part, but rather of choice...he CHOOSES not to be a good actor.) -
I dunno. Some people just didn't like the show, and no amount of high-definition mecha porn will change that. Besides, saying to someone, "You didn't like the show? Then spend ¥66,150 and I think you'll like it," is kind of...cruel, maybe?

You win.

That sounds really, really good. I like the live arrangements. Too bad I already bought the Tommy february6 and Tommy heavenly6 greatest hits albums this month...maybe in another month or so, I'll order this one...

My point exactly. Satire is protected speech. So all the Robotech movie people need to d is claim that they're making a parody of Macross, and then they can use any damn thing they want from the show.
-
Yes, and it sucked mightily. As he pointed out, who wants a robot that turns into a skyscraper? Then, if I recall correctly, he went on to invent the Dinobots (or the Insecticons...memory's a little hazy here...)
-
As far as I know, it's the world's only gold robot that transforms into a cigarette lighter...all the kiddies love it!

I think it would still be copyright infringement. Look at it this way: If I published a book about a little boy wizard named "Harvey Porter," Warners would pound my publishing company out of existence. Clever re-spellings don't work, unless it's for satiric purposes. Which, come to think of it, is one route they could go..."Our Robotech movie isn't ripping Macross off, it's a PARODY of Macross! We're being DELIBERATELY lame!"

Believe me, you're not the first person to notice... http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=9070 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=14939 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=15028 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=15085 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=15259 There are more, but I think I've made my point.

"Structural complexity, functonal simplicity: the best life for all." (At least, I think that's how the quote went... It's been many years since I've read it.)

It doesn't really say anything very interesting. Just that Misa's "atmosphere of womanly feeling" is left pretty much the same as it was in the anime. That Hikaru's flight suit was designed specially for the comic, with some assistance from Kawamori. That Minmay is the "Legendary Songstress," and that her Nyan Nyan bag should be recognized by fans of Macross F. And that Mikimoto is a character designer who has also done comics, including "Ecole du Ciel." Not very enlightening, is it?

They're better than a tripod, however...

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was singling you out. I wasn't. And we know that Tatsunoko has no IP rights to Macross, and that if THEY never had the rights, they couldn't very well sell them to HG. But I think the real question isn't what rights HG has or doesn't have (which again, we can speculate about but never get confirmation on), it's how much HG thinks they can get away with. And with Warners adding their muscle to the table, HG could conceivably get away with quite a lot.
