I dunno, waiting for the Frontier movie is a lot easier than waiting for the next semiannual episode of macross Zero was... I'm kind of glad that the debate here got kind of rebooted, actually. There was so much speculation clouding the issues that it's been nice to get back to the facts, as incomplete and unsatisfactory as they may be.

Yes, it is about the movie, but it's a joke...It's Risa Ebata's "ideas" for the film...making it with puppets instead of animation...Giant Ranka versus the Vajra...Ozma and Bobby having a tender love scene...things like that.

I never understood why RT fans used that as the rationale for why the lack of a lot of Macross in the west was BW's fault...I mean, if someone underhandedly maneuvers so that I couldn't do business with anyone but them...I wouldn't do business at all. Makes perfect sense to me.

I think they were talking about Zero, actually, now that I think about it...although I'm sure they'd be happy to release either of them. Even if they didn't release them themselves, as the copyright holders, they'd get a cut, right?

I don't buy it either, for a very simple reason. They said that by the time they learned about II and Plus, the statute of limitations had run out...but, from my limited understanding, it doesn't work like that. As soon as they FIND OUT about the copyright infringement, the clock starts ticking, not before. It's BS, plain and simple...but I pledged to deliver only the facts, not my interpretation of the facts. Are you kidding? Big hit anime with big hit soundtracks, lots of buzz...I'm sure they're salivating at the thought of getting their hands on it.

My interest in Macross has kind of waxed and waned over the years, but I've never lost interest. I think at this point it's pretty impossible for me to lose interest...Look at Gundam. I don't watch any of the new Gundam TV series, and haven't for years. I do watch new U.C. stories, although I disliked the 08th MS Team. But no matter what happens with any new Gundam, I think I will always love the original series, Zeta, parts of Double Zeta, and Char's Counterattack. I get Gundam Ace every month, even when there's no much in it that I care about. So even if there were a new Macross series which SERIOUSLY sucked, it wouldn't change my feelings for everything that's come so far. That said, my Macross Translation Project might kill it for me if it becomes more like a job than fun. You never know.

Robotech Art 2 had fan art? I always thought it was, y'know, professionals. Now I'm doubly glad I never picked it up. Anyway, the fact that it's from 1987 is no excuse. Anatomy and perspective were well-understood concepts, even way back then.

This probably should've been put in the newbie thread... Anyway, it depends on what you mean by "very little." More than half of each of the first two OSTs is instrumental music. Not everything has been released, but most of it has.

It doesn't take a great artist to see that that pic was crappy.

I'm with Seto. Light shows are for Pink Floyd, I'd rather see a good singer. So I went with Minmay, because I've seen Mari Iijima live about ten or eleven times, and I'm looking forward to the next show. By the way...who's Yellow Dancer?

I haven't, actually...I was out of Robotech and on to DYRL and Zeta Gundam by the time that came out. But artbook jam sessions aren't necessarily bad things...sometimes the differing styles can make it kind of interesting. But that only really works if you have well-known artists involved. And that takes money. Which brings us right back to where we started... EDIT: By the way, this is the most activity I've seen in this thread in a long while, and, even with a jen-yoo-ine Robotech fan posting, it didn't turn into a flame war!!! Do we rock, or WHAT?

Ouch, man! I know. That's why I suggested it. On the other hand, a lot of the Robotech fan art community IS talented, and would probably let their work be used by Harmony Gold sans payment or recognition of any kind. It all depends on how douche-y they want to be.

That's probably a better plan in the long run. It would, at the very least, help to refute Einherjar's point that HG is just riding on Macross's coattails instead of making something of their own.

Harmony Gold has no artists of its own that can draw mecha...? Why not use their work?

I don't think his art is bad at all...it doesn't look much like the original designs, but all the characters are recognizable and appealing. It's certainly heaps better than the original Comico art: GOOD MINMAY! BAD MINMAY!

"Fandom Politics"...? I don't follow you. And again, there are no detailed Robotech stats out there, in officially sanctioned materials, except the Palladium books, and a lot of that info is wrong. So where will you get all of your material from?

Only the first mecha...? What about the others? Taking off the Caps Lock would be a good start.

True. I did the first Minmay page, and Sketchley did the Oberth Class Destroyer, but that's about it. One day soon, I'm going to finish the Macross Launch Ceremony page, which has some mecha-head info in it. Other than that, there's nothing yet, really. Again, true. And, as Azrael said, let 'em hire their own translators.
