  1. Yup. I don't have more information, though, since I haven't read the novels yet. There's five of them. The first one apparently retells the series. The next four...go further. Plus, they were written by Sukehiro Tomita, writer of Macross II (and screenwriter of DYRL and a bunch of SDFM episodes), so they should be pretty official.
  2. Ah, whew. Though I was going crazy there for a sec.
  3. Okay...I've listened to all of Nyan Dra now, and...um, it's goofy. Not as goofy as, say, Macross 7 Docking Festival, thogh. And most of the silliness is confined to the second story. And there's the problem that Alto's supposed to be a junior high school student in the first story...but he sounds exactly the same as he did in the show. The story itself is pretty fun, though, as Alto flies for the first time (after walking out of a school production of Romeo and Juliet where he got cast as Juliet). The third story I haven't quite got a handle on, yet. Sheryl's training with Michael and Klang, and ends up talking to Canaria and Captain Wilder...but I'm not sure about what else is happening in it. And the Alto/Brera "Super Dimension Duet"...I figured it would just be the two voice actors singing over the karaoke version (let's face it, these drama albums tend to be rather cheaply made), but they actually new and entirely new performance of the song. Fit it with some of the Ranka songs from the show and the duets from the upcoming drama albums, and we'll have enough tracks for a "Mihoshi High School All Stars Sing Lynn Minmay" album...
  4. Don't you know the math? Anime + English = Anime (Anime X 3) + English = Anime (Anime X 3) + English + Floral Power Source = Not Anime
  5. Hmmm...I remember hearing that there was some kind of "Miss Macross" Contest every ten years to pick who would be the new Minmay Defense Singer. The disturbing part is that I was sure I'd heard that from you...guess not, huh? Maybe I dreamed it. And yeah...she would look good, but I'm pretty sure she's dead. One of the novels apparently talks about her supposed grandson...and I don't think she's around to say if he really is related to her or not.
  6. Speed Racer was considered a failure. Dragonball will probably end up being even more so. Anime-themed movies may die the death...although HG might be able to convince WB execs that Robotech isn't really anime.
  7. You're very welcome. I'm prepping up "Distantly Fading Memories" currently...I wish the Bridge Bunnies didn't talk so fast, but that's in their nature, I guess. I also picked p "Nyan Dra: Dra 1" and again, I'm annoyed by the lack of a script in the CD booklet. It'll be QUITE a while before I get around to that one. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but it looks fun so far. EDIT: I also like how the back cover of Nyan Dra is a little wink at the cover of Miss DJ. Or am I reading too much into it...?
  8. Okay, I'll grant you that. although I insist that that wasn't really Minmay in MII; I believe it was some kind of "Miss Macross"-type contest winner.
  9. What do you mean? She covered the whole Macross when Isamu was diving at it. (I'll state for the record, though, that I don't much care which series it was an homage to, or if it was an homage at all.)
  10. Psst...Roy's being sarcastic...it's been a little game of his for a week or two now.
  11. Have you read Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles yet...? It answers all your questions abut your favorite Robotech characters...and kills them off, to boot!
  12. To be fair, Macross World isn't as active as it was over the summer... If Shadow Rising ever comes out, or if the LAMR (Live Action Movie: Robotech) looks like it's actually going to happen, they might see a spike in interest. Just as I'm sure MW will when the Frontier movie comes out.
  13. They were separate. The OP and ED were sung by Mika Kaneko (金子美香) (who apparently has a number of albums out from the late '80s and early '90s). Wendy was voiced (and sung) by Yukio Satou (佐藤幸世), who also did something for "Fighbird" (which I have to admit I've never heard of before), but apparently little else. EDIT: Oh wait...she also did this:
  14. For me, it was an issue of the flimsy little "Parade" magazine that comes with the L.A. Times. In December, 1984, they had something about Japanese robot toys, and showed Hikaru's Valkyrie, saying that it was from the show "Macross," and giving a very brief (and not entirely accurate) run-down of the plot. I also, at around the same time (maybe a little before) saw in ad for Starlog for Harmony Gold's original Macross video tape. I didn't find the video until much later, but after I saw that Parade article, I went to Little Tokyo and got a bunch of the 1/144 Imai model kits. When Robotech came on the air, I knew exactly what it was, and although i loved it, I really wanted to see the japanese version. Then, around the time Robotech finished, I got my hands on a copy (of a copy of a copy) of DYRL, and I never looked back. Macross II I was initially disappointed by, and I didn't realize it was cool until 1998 or thereabouts, when I finally watched the whole thing. I didn't want to see Macross Plus at first, since after MII I decided I was done with Macross. The guy at the comic/video store convinced me to check it out (with the promise of a refund for the rental price if I didn't like it). Needless to say, I liked it A LOT. I really WANTED to like Macross 7, but it took a lot of time. I first watched it, raw, in '96. By the third time through, I realized that although I wasn't what I had wanted, it had its own distinct charm. Macross Zero grabbed me immediately. So did Frontier.
  15. *Looks askance at the last couple of pages*
  16. Episode 3 is UP!
  17. 1. So sign up. It's easy, free, and FUN! (Alternatively, I guess you could wait until it shows up youtube...) 2. "'Oh kettle, thou art black,' sayeth the pot." (You know, from a translation standpoint, I'm really annoyed that they open the album with the "shiritori" game...it's nearly impossible to render into English without copious notes... That said, the fact that the actual story quotes a lot from Romeo and Juliet makes a lot of it easier, so I guess I shouldn't complain...)
  18. Alto Meets Sky: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6685275 TOTALLY worth it for me, just to hear Ranka saying, "Gu...GUBABA!"
  19. I have an old Newtype issue (Char's Counterattack period) that talks about Hathaway's Flash, and how they won't make a movie of it because there isn't enough action it. Unfortunately. I'd love to see a Gaia Gear movie, though...I've been meaning to track down the novels for some time now.
  20. Aha! Found it! From here (although I first read it on MedMapGuy's blog): http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/re...&forumid=31 "Mommy, why did Mr. Ruff-Ruff have to die?" "Because Tommy Yune is a vengeful god, son." I think one of the biggest problems is that the people running the creative department of Harmony Gold now have nothing in common with the people running it then. It's not the same company AT ALL. And I have to say, regarding the nostalgia factor, that one of the nice things about living near a large Japanese population was the fact that Japanese toys were easy to come by...I picked up my first Macross toys and kits before RT started, and so it ALWAYS seemed like a filter between me and Macross ("It says 'Gerwalk' on the model box...why are they calling it a Guardian...?"). Likewise, it was VERY soon after Robotech ended that I got my hands on a copy of DYRL, and saw we we were REALLY missing. As such, I have no fond memories of RT. It was always nothing more than a necessary evil for getting my daily Macross fix.
  21. I've never seen that happen, but I've heard tell from others... As for the cult-like behavior, my favorite example of that was a quote from RT.com I saw about how, if the fans are disappointed by the silence from HG about Shadow Rising, they should blame their own earlier bad behavior. I half expect them to don sackcloth and sit in ashes, waiting for the almighty RT gods to forgive them their transgressions...
  22. Hmmm...I can understand why numbers 2 and 5 are missing... 6 baffles me, though.
  23. I've seen that one before (the same cosplayer has a couple of different poses floating around, as well), but yes...me likey.
  24. Never mind...I just got them today. I was working off of this from magnuskn's translation of Shaloom's "liner notes" for Frontier episode 11: However, having searched through both volumes of the "Studio Nue Machanic Design Entertainment Bibles," there appears to be no such story in either volume.
  25. That was put up a few pages ago, I believe...
