  1. If Hannah Montana's songs were written for her by Yoko Kanno, I'd probably listen to her.
  2. Yes, poor Ishtar. Always a bridesmaid...
  3. Really? I didn't think "Shao Pai Long" was bad...it wasn't really great, either, though; it was just kinda...there. Now Fire Bomber American...THAT makes the Baby Jesus cry.
  4. I think that now we're getting into legal waters that only the professionals can navigate. Big West DOES own the character and mecha designs...if anyone wants to argue otherwise, well...that's more than the armchair lawyers can handle, I think. (I know, I know...we're talking about a lot of "if"s here. IF the movie gets made, and IF Big West decides to sue, and IF WB wants to bring it to court instead of settling, what would their defense be? It's all a little too speculative for my taste. But that's just me. )
  5. You're making me drool. Stop it. You've clearly never seen the other pictures of AgentONE scattered around in the conventions and gatherings threads. That IS really him.
  6. Hmmm? There's new Macross 7 stuff? What? When? How?
  7. Yeah, the title is a hindrance. I mean, Transformers had such '80s-isms as Cybertron, but it's not in the title, at least. As far as '80s buzzwords go, "tech" has aged better than "video," so it might be okay. One of my Japanese friends (who loves Frontier and wanted to know why it wasn't going to be released in the U.S.) actually laughed out loud when I told her the name "Robotech." "Sounds so stupid!" was her exact quote.
  8. Yes, it is...BUT I STILL WANT TO HEAR LUCA SING "SANTI-U," DAMMIT!!!
  9. We'll see the full 52-episode version of F91 before we ever see Macross II revised so that it fits current macross canon.
  10. There's going to be four. At least, they've announced four of them so far. I hope they won't do more. Really, the last thing we need is another situation like Macross 7 (NINE! NINE FREAKIN' DRAMA ALBUMS! AND MOST OF THEM ARE INCREDIBLY DULL!). And yeah, Nyan Dra IS fun. I think the trick with the drama albums is not to take them too seriously. Most of them are comedic, or at least have more comedic elements than the shows they come from...which I believe is what pushes Macross 7 Docking Festival, for example, into the stratosphere of random weirdness ("TOILET DECULTURE!!").
  11. I'll second that. Gut feeling DOES work, but you have to get to a pretty high level of competence before you can even try it out. I can't tell you how many times I got a question on my Japanese class tests right, not because I studied the textbook hard, but because I was watching "Pa-Pa-Pa-Pa-Puffy" over and over again. I was introduced to concepts in the classroom, but watching variety shows with lots of food cemented them in my head. (That said, I'm an extrodinarily verbal person, and I do often (not always) think in language. Sometimes I think in English, sometimes in Japanese...sometimes (very rarely) in French or German.)
  12. ANY amount of money is cheaper than fighting Harlan Ellison, in court or elsewhere. Too bad he doesn't work for Big West. Not only would they own Macross worldwide by now, they'd probably end up owning Harmony Gold as well.
  13. We now have titles for the third "Nyan Dra" drama album: 1. ドラマ 「アルトとシェリルとチャイナドレス」 2. ドラマ 「ギャラクシー・メモリー」 3. ドラマ 「3人娘、いまひとたび青春の光と影」 4. 超時空デュエット 「突撃ラブハート」 1. Alto and Sheryl and a Chinese Dress 2. Galaxy Memory 3. 3 Girls, now [something] the Light and Shadow of Youth 4. Super Dimension Duet - Totsugeki Loveheart [by Ozma and Bobby]
  14. The bit about the game mecha is untrue...check the "Series Guide" that came with issue one. They DO show an (as yet unused) designation, "Hoka" (i.e. "Other"). They specifically say that it is for mecha and characters from games and other sources. That said, I think you're right that they probably won't do much with the MacII-related games. Just like they don't seem to be doing much with SDFM drama albums and novels.
  15. Chronicle 21 should make Seta Kaiba and Oihan very, very happy... Mechanic Sheet * VF-2SS Valkyrie II * FZ-109 Elgezorun * VF-25S Messiah Character Sheet * Sylvie Gena * Edgar LaSalle * Claudia LaSalle * Kim / Shammy / Vanessa * City 7 Media People Gallery Sheet * Macross 7 Timeline Sheet * Diving Into the Sea of Stars World Guide Sheet * Civilian Military Provider Technology Sheet * Variable Fighter Goods Sheet * CharaKon * Yamato 1/60 VF-1 Series [WHAT? NO SONG SHEET???] EDIT: Oh, and it also comes with the stickers for binder #3, and (strangely) U.N. Spacy and SMS logos.
  16. He's just a fan...but he's SO obnoxious and flat-out crazy that that in itself becomes kind of a credential...
  17. Not that I can see. It'll probably come up later...
  18. I'm not sure how you mean...she has a fuddy-duddy father who used to be in a death metal band, and a butler (or something like that) named Sebastian. That's it, so far. Exactly. As I said, some are more radically redesigned than others. Of course, as VFTF1 pointed out, anime Vanessa looks like a librarian circa 1982, comic Vanessa looks like a librarian circa 2009.
  19. It had THAT song? Just a pile of rust was all they found on that isle... That no one expected to see... Ten years later, Super Fortress Macross would rise! Guardian of you and of me! Is that the one?
  20. It looks like, but it's hard to tell. There's only been one issue so far. About 80 pages of "Macross the First," and we get to not quite the end of Booby Trap. Some of the designs are TV-based (The ARMDs and the VF-1D look like the TV versions), a lot are DYRL-based (Skull Squadron doesn't seem to have any brownies, it's all Skull-1 lookalikes), and a lot are completely new (pretty much all of the characters, some more radically than the others). I mean, just look at the bridge bunnies: As for how the story will turn out, it's anybody's guess at this point. The first chapters follow the TV script quite closely, with some added scenes and a few others cut or rearranged. He'll probably start veering off after a while...most of these kinds of adaptations do (cf. Evangelion or Gundam the Origin).
  21. Are you talking about this thread?
  22. But it's got BASARA! E•V•E•R•Y•O•N•E loves Basara! (Except AgentONE, of course...but he's the übermensch. We cannot all be so godlike.) BOMBAA!!! I agree about the backstories...to the casual viewer, I'm sure it looks like it could fit, though. I haven't played the games, so I could be wrong here...but I thought the whole problem was that the Zentradi WEREN'T considered a big threat. They show up, U.N. Spacy plays the Minmay Defense, and the Valks wipe the floor with the Zents. No biggie, right? Until the Mardook show up.
  23. Stupid onyomi and kunyomi... Negishi, huh? And how do you do a Google search if you don't know how to read the kanji? Or did you find the CD credits somewhere?
  24. lynn2009, you're awesome!! Thank you!!
  25. Oh, yessirree, of course they are. I was forever eating bars of soap and wandering into traffic when I was a kid in the '80s. My friends were all the same. It's a miracle we survived. Really...yeah, it was a big shock (although I missed the episode where Kakizaki died because I hadn't finished my homework). But look: I had read books, seen movies, and watched TV shows where people died. The fact that people died in Robotech was one of the main reasons I liked it. And, even in cartons, I'd been "softened up" by Star Blazers...Captain Avatar, anyone?
